This is my second stay with Ric and Maria at the Hale Kai. I had to come back, for not only are the accommodations clean, comfortable and oh, so beautiful. The hospitality that Ric and Maria provide is the closest thing to that of my Hawaiian families aloha spirit that I have experienced while in my beloved islands. To wake...

What a wonderful place to stay. Only wish we had stayed longer. We stayed in the Bamboo Room. Loved the privacy. Beautiful view. Loved waking up, rolling over and enjoying a spectacular sunrise right outside our window. Loved falling asleep to the crashing waves. Breakfast was phenomenal. Ric and Maria were the perfect hosts and when asked, offered fantastic advice...

This joint was great - it's beautiful, in a great location, great food and the right level of familiarity with the hosts. T Ric and Maria were extremely helpful and kind, and they ran their bed and breakfast quite professionally. Their home is right on the water, so you have a beautiful ocean view! The rooms are separate from the...

We spent two nights at the Hale Kai in August, 2009. We chose this B&B based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. The hosts were very accommodating, the Pele Suite was comfortable, the views were spectacular and the breakfasts were great--we even took a later flight just to make sure we had time to eat breakfast....

We are locals and recently stayed here for 2 nights for a leisure weekend in Hilo. I had reviewed here on trip advisor for places to stay in Hilo (there aren't many) and the hotels there are horrible so I'd would have rather stayed in a tent then go to one of them. From reviews and the price and location,...

The owners are great hosts they had very helpful recommendations for our day trips. We stayed at the bamboo room which has a nice personal atmosphere, a very good king size bed and -...

The Hale Kai B&B was where we started our adventure on the Big Island. They really spoiled us with great accommodations, a spectacular view, and unsurpassed hospitality. The breakfast each morning on the lanai was genteel and charming. If we had it to do over, we would have stayed at this location during our entire time on the Big Island......

We spent 2 of 11 nights here on a trip to the Big Island. The view from the Bamboo room was gorgeous, especially the sunrises, and we liked that we were at the end of the house where other guests weren't walking in front of our room all the time. They had a nice book of personally recommended restaurants in...

We were lucky to stay for 4 nights at Hale Kai and totally enjoyed the experience in a typical Hawaiian oceanfront home, enjoying the sounds of surf and rain, eating delicious breakfasts, and learning about the area from our hosts, Ric and Maria. I have no clue about any negative experiences. Yes, the rooms are not air conditioned (typical for...
