We stayed in the Japanese Room, which is different in decor from all the others and is the most expensive room. At $100 per night, it's still very reasonable and fun to have a room with tatami mats, a futon bed and a furo (Japanese soaking tub). Make sure you eat dinner at the hotel, too. Generous, family style food...

... Must be doing something right. And they are. Basic but highly affordable rooms right down the hill from the airport about 20 minutes or so. Rooms are 'basic' with no TV's and phones (happily) but with killer views of the ocean from the roadside. Ask for a room in the back building for a quieter sleep away from the...

We spent five nights here while exploring the Kona Coast and we couldn't have loved it more! The hotel is 100 years old, charming with many great features. We stayed on the third floor in a very nice and spacious room with a balcony that had the most stunning view of the slope and ocean. The hotel is surrounded by...

We spent 2 nights at the Manago Hotel at the tail end of our recent trip to the Big Island. It's right on the main highway in Captain Cook, 15-20 minutes south of Kailua-Kona. The place was founded in 1917, so they're celebrating their 100th birthday this year. Check-in was easy, since I'd booked it on-line a couple months before....

This is a place I will always go back to eat and visit! If you appreciate turn of the century (1800-1900's) then here it is. My first time here I just simply loved the atmosphere oozing from every part of this incredible place. AND the food was great! Server the way it would be done in the early part of...

The Manago Hotel has been there forever and has been maintained but has kept it rustic look for at least several generations. Last had a meal there many many years ago and was very pleased to see that they have kept things essentially the same. Their signature this cut pork chops continue to be a favorite as well as the...

The Manago is a unique hotel. It is Japanese and some of the rooms are Japanese style with Tatami mats. Gorgeous views of the ocean, and an interesting location, with the Farmers Market on Sundays across the street and don't miss Teshima's the oldest restaurant on the island.

This hotel is stellar!!! Great service, restaurant and price makes for a great bargain!! Uncle Dwight, Britney (sp?), Cathy, Ramona and the entire staff are a Hawaiian treasure. They have the Aloha Spirit to the max and made my wife and I feel like Ohana (Family). All rooms face the garden and ocean with beautiful views. Coqui frogs and tropical...

We loved this retro restaurant with retro prices. All meals start with shared rice, tofu, bamboo shoots, and potatoe salad. The delicious Opakapaka fish was saluted in butter. My husband had the pork chop everyone had recommended! This hotel is on Highway 11 South of Kona. Well worth stopping for a meal(open 5:00-7:30 for dinner).

This hotel is very old, over 90 years. If you like living history, this is it. Guests sign a huge register book after ringing a bell to bring out a receptionist . There is a restaurant on site with very narrow, old fashioned dining hours. Breakfast is over at 9 am , dinner closes down at 7 pm. There are...
