Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Imagine finding a jewel of a hotel out in the western Black Hills of Wyoming. That's Serena Inn and Suites in Sundance. My family made reservations to stay there when we opted to visit nearby Devils Tower. They are an independent hotel, so it's better to simply give them a call at 307-283-2800 and book your stay w/ one of their great desk clerks (Carla was OUTSTANDING and helpful when I called to set this up.) The rooms are incredibly spacious. My wife and I stayed in a large room w/ two queen beds. Or son was across the hall in a room w/ a king bed AND a sofa. The rooms were so clean that you could have eaten off of the carpet. Lots of drawers and hangers to store your clothes during your stay. The free breakfast served in the morning was one of the best I have ever seen. Hot and cold cereals, juices, coffee, tea, etc.....but the highlight was the delicious biscuits and gravy they served. The owner has taken great pains to keep the facility up to date and well maintained. For example, the indoor swimming pool was being completely renovated when we were there, w/ anticipated completion later this month (June, 2024).

When we were planning our trip out west, we were VERY concerned about being able to find suitable accommodations out "in the middle of nowhere", forcing us to limit our nightly stays in only larger cities. But rest assured that if you're planning on driving through eastern Wyoming on I-90 and want to end your day in a first class hotel, you can't go wrong w/ Serena Inn and Suites in Sundance. Thanks to all of the staff for a great visit. We will certainly book our stay there if we ever schedule another trip to this very scenic and friendly part of the country.

The guy at the desk and the folks cleaning the rooms were all very friendly with smiles and greetings. Doesn't this just make all the difference? The coffee was good and there were several breakfast choices including biscuits and gravy. The room was clean.

I had to ask for "clean" pillows as there were long hairs on three of the four pillows. The guy at the desk brought them to me right away and said it was due to static. Maybe it is. Let's have housekeeping really check this out before placing them on the bed. Just one little step and it takes it over the top.

No cushy beds here. They are firm and could use an upgrade but I did sleep well.
Thanks for the stay.

I took some gorgeous pictures of the countryside from this location.

As a frequent visitor of the Best Western hotel chain this particular location is very nice. The parking lot is big, laid out well and has plenty of lighting. The folks at reception were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and more specifically so was the bathroom. Beds are comfortable with nice bed linens. Overall very nice first impression.

Inn employees very nice, however I would not recommend staying. Vending machines empty, someone had smoked in our room, smelled, dirty windows, tv screen filthy, bed was clean, however mattress worn out! No hot gravy or biscuits as advertised, I felt the price I paid should be adjusted, manager said she would have owner call...that never happened. Too bad - -Best Western was a great motel until Serena took over...I would no longer recommend staying there. Pool and hot tub empty and out of service! Most vacant rooms, doors were standing open!

After negotiating a night's rate with the receptionist, we received the invoice and we stayed that night in July of 2020. When we received the Visa bill later that month we saw that the hotel had billed an additional $21.00 on our card, without our permission. We phoned to ask why and was told that the receptionist made a mistake and gave us the wrong nightly price. So they just tacked on an additional amount when we were 300 miles down the road. Phoned corporate Best Western and they attempted to reconcile, but the hotel would not credit our account. So we contacted Visa and declined the charge. We do not appreciate having our card charged without our permission.

We paid a premium to stay here due to the policies Best Western claims to follow to ensure guests' safety. Unfortunately, we could not see any measures actually being practiced.
The hotel is supposed to NOT service the room, but someone entered the room and partially serviced it.
The hotel is supposed to require everyone to wear masks per BW policy. Not only were guests not required to (no signs anywhere), not a single hotel staff member we saw did.
No social distancing markers were visible anywhere. We were required to walk right up to the counter next to the unmasked rep every time we went to the desk.
Items like bed scarves are not supposed to be in the rooms, but were still there.
When we filled out the post-stay survey the manager claimed to be unaware of all the issues, though not sure how she could have missed the total absence of all required policy signage. Especially since we had called Best Western to complain during our stay.
We paid extra to make sure we were safe on vacation, but this hotel added a bunch of stress to our trip.

This was our first stop after 14 hours driving. The rooms smelled like wet mold and the beds were hard and squeaky. The beds are what turned us on to BW many years ago, so this is unfortunate. This location is not paying attention and will lose loyal customers.

This place used to be a Hampton and now does not even come close. Loud and piercing noise from bathroom for no reason. Mattresses very uncomfortable, an odd odor throughout the place and drastically over priced (paid more than the Hampton). No eggs on the hot breakfast. Will not be staying ata Serena again.

simple standard roadside motel with decent beds, decent furniture and decent (Covid) breakfast. costly for what you get and not up to BW standards i've experienced at all. needs updating. bed was comfortable and shower was hot. AC seemed to have a mind of it's own at times. while they were working hard to provide a a hot breakfast, you had to ask for what you wanted from the one person who was filling plates behind a cordoned off area where the food was. she did the best she could with what was provided but the line got long. she needed and assistant.

This hotel is very old and run down. When we were checking in the owner or manager called to ask the front desk person how many rooms were sold and proceeded to have a conversation with the front desk person while we stood there and waited. Needless to say we knew that they had all but 14 rooms sold. We checked in and went to eat dinner, when we returned I took a shower. The shower had a very high pitched whine to it the entire time I was in it so loud that it could be heard in the room. When the next person went to shower there was no hot water, we later found out they had run out of propane. Overall I do not recommend this hotel
