Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't go here if you hate spectacular views, lavish accommodaton and wonderful staff...!!! This is not the place for you if you hate waking up to the sight of a mountain, sometimes with snow on it. This is not the place for you if you hate an ideal location in a really lovely area, and where you can get pretty well anything you need. This is not the place for you if you hate friendly cleaning and management staff who'll do that little bit extra. This is not the place for you, because it IS the place for me...!

Even before we arrived John and Nicola were bending over backwards to help us organize Christmas lunch for 8. Once we arrived they carried on doing everything they could to make our stay memorable and fun.
The large house has every amenity you could ask for, from a washing machine and drier to heat pumps in every bedroom and a well stocked games room and library.
The shared pool and hot tub were excellent and we could barely get the kids out of them.
The house location is pretty good, far enough outside Queenstown to feel rural but only 15 mins drive away. The Tucker Beach walking track goes from the bottom of the driveway and has stunning views up and down the Shotover river.
All in all a superb place that will make any holiday perfect.

Our stay here was part of a Queenstown trip to replace a cancelled overseas cruise. We were not disappointed. Our view from the living room French doors was Coronet Peak. Fabulous views particularly after a good snow fall. This area is about 10-15 minutes from town itself, and was nice to retreat back here at the end of a day. Quiet place with lovely outdoor areas. It rained for the three days we stayed so sadly did not make use of the outdoor areas, pool or spa. Our one bedroom apartment was a good size and had absolutely everything we needed. Our package included a wine and cheese platter which included a really nice selection of cheeses, crackers and bread and a lovely bottle of red. We also had breakfast provided each day which included juice, plunger coffee and pods, fruit (fresh and pottles), bread, bagels, yoghurt and spreads etc. John (owner) text everyday to see what breakfast provisions we needed topped up for the next day, and reminded us to let him know if there was anything else we needed. The bed was comfy, and there was plenty of room to hang clothes etc. This was a really cute and warm apartment. We had a great time and would definitely stay again.

Nothing luxury about this place. It is basically a motel with nicer than average gardens. But the rooms are cramped and the room amenities themselves are extremely basic. The whole set up is very impersonal and self service orientated. We had to add on another night last minute and found a place on airbnb called Moonlight Escape Lodge which was much much nicer for a similar price. Giving two stars rather than one because the owner was kind enough to gift us a bottle of wine and also seemed receptive to feedback. Would give a higher rating if it was priced and marketed as a motel rather than luxury accommodation but for what it claims to be it is sorely lacking.

Response from ManataLodge, Owner at Manata Lodge
Responded 19 Jan 2020
Hi Ken I am sorry you felt the need to write such review. I am a little confused who you are though? We have only owned Manata for 6 months and the only complaint I have had, and subsequently did give a bottle of wine, was to a honeymoon couple booked under the name of Peduru checked out Thursday 16/1. Is this you? If it was you booked our advertised "Small Studio" which is 75m2 and is a very generous size for a studio apartment. All our other apartment which you did not see are larger than this. You checked in at 3pm and decided to ring me at 11pm that evening quite angry saying you wanted a diferent room as the TV was not working and was too small. I did not have another room available so could not move you but I did talk you through the instructions (which are in the compendium) and got your TV working. Ken or Peduru, the average size of studio apartment is 46-56m2. The one you stayed in is 75m2. The room is beautifully appointed and we have a Spa. Heated Pool and Sauna with beautiful spacious grounds and gardens. Peduru, if this is you, I do hope you and your wife enjoy the rest of your honeymoon and please if you are looking for more space in booking accommodation you might want to look at booking a one bedroom apartment or at least a large Studio room. John Stephens

This place is absolutely wonderful for families. All 4 families were accommodated, and John was the perfect host by making sure we had enough beds in each room, and everything else we needed.

The kids loved the grounds, pool and of course we all loved the spa.

I would highly recommend Manata Lodge - it was such a nice, easy, relaxing time - we will be back!

A large group of us stayed at Manata Lodge recently. What a stunning place! Lovely gardens to wander around in, a huge spa pool, swimming pool and very private surrounded by trees. Lovely linen and amazingly comfy beds! Highly recommend people to stay in this little slice of paradise. We loved that the lodge can accommodate both small and large groups too. Thanks John and Nicola, we'll be back!

Great communication from Manata from the initial booking to checking in. A great location just out of town to enjoy the beautiful views but close enough should you want to head into Queenstown. A short drive to local supermarket to make use of the great cooking facilities provided in the apartment. The onsite laundry was very handy as well. Would definitely recommend a stay here. The airport is not to far away as well.

I stayed in the one-bedroom apartment for a week in the summer. We initially decided to stay for a few days but had to contact John to extend it right from the first day. Our apartment hard exceptional views, truly breathtaking, it is a very short drive from Queenstown centre as well as a number of lovely nearby walks. The gardens are beautifully kept.

Our son, only 11 months was given a bag of toys by our gracious host John. My only regret is not doubling our stay further. But we will definitely be back here in the future and for a longer stay hopefully!

We had to be quarantined for 2 weeks on returning to NZ after being overseas, because of COVID-19. What a perfect location to be quarantined. Unlike Queenstown itself, we had the sun all day. Beautiful views of Cornet Peak. Great walks and mountain bike rides around the area. Location is quiet but only a short drive to Queenstown. Accommodation was 5 star and ideal if you are looking for a self-contained unit with all amenities. My wife and myself and the most relaxing and unexpectant holiday. Bruce & Emy.

Great location and enough space for 24 of us for a special celebration. Very comfortable beds and plenty of room in each guest bedroom. Didn’t use spa or oool as winter time but imagine it would be fantastic in summertime. Loved the fire in lounge. Thoroughly recommend it.
