We just spent a wonderful weekend at Canoe Bay. The grounds are stunningly beautiful, the cabin we stayed in (16) was gorgeous, the food was fantastic, the service outstanding, the staff warm and welcoming.

Secluded, romantic, quiet resort with amazing staff. Garden tour was really cool, and the restaurant was out of this world...great wine list and locally sourced foods. Took a canoe out on the water and hung out in the library. Leave your cell phone in your...More

As we made our way to the resort it became evident that the location was far and away from the noise and bustle of any town or community. While Chetek is 10-15 minutes to to the west, it hardly resembles a busy metropolis. Canoe Bay's...More

Hi there! I'm happy to answer this for you. There is not a whole lot to do at Canoe Bay itself. If the weather is nice, you can swim, canoe, and kayak. There is a really nice library with a ton of books to peruse or borrow (I picked one up one the widow behind Veuve Cliquot Champagne) as well as an impressive range of DVDs. I brought fun bath stuff from Lush and had a mini "spa" afternoon after a picnic and a swim. There are also many miles of easy walking/hiking trails.
As for the area, Chetek doesn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. There are some antique stores in town, a few casual restaurants, and not a whole lot else. I enjoy old fashioned downtowns though so a stroll would be fun in my book. Chetek is probably more rustic than charming though.
My suggestion on your way down would be to stop at the Leinenkugel Brewery in Chippewa Falls for a tour and beer tasting. Canoe Bay is about 20/30 minutes North of Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls. If you go in the Fall, there are also lots of apple orchards in the area which are fun to visit.
Overall, Canoe Bay will probably be more about relaxing and enjoying the beautiful grounds, accommodations, and fine dining. I hope this helps!
