My husband and i stayed 4 nights last summer. There are some lovely parts about the property-quiet, lots of wildlife, small lake to paddle around in, gorgeous flower and vegetable garden with a cool gardener, bee and butterfly garden, small rushing water feature. So can...More

So glad that you’ve carried happy memories of your summertime stay, especially about our Chef’s amazing garden-fresh dinners! Indeed Canoe Bay is the ideal spot to escape all the pressures of everyday life and focus on the most important things. Hope you’ll be back soon...More
My husband and I went to Canoe Bay for our anniversary last June. This Inn is deep in the woods and provided plenty of opportunity to view wildlife. (We had to stop the car so I could move a turtle out of the road on...More

If you are looking for a place to disconnect and reconnect, this is the spot! We enjoyed the great accommodations (Lakeside Cottage with spa, steam shower, elliptical, and tubby overlooking the lake), and all food delivered to our cottage. You have the option to dine...More
Really enjoyed our recent stay at Canoe Bay. Staff were nice, grounds were clean and our cabin was nice. That being said... it's quite expensive. Worth it? I'm not sure. The dinner should be included with the cabin rates since there are no options and...More

Hi there! I'm happy to answer this for you. There is not a whole lot to do at Canoe Bay itself. If the weather is nice, you can swim, canoe, and kayak. There is a really nice library with a ton of books to peruse or borrow (I picked one up one the widow behind Veuve Cliquot Champagne) as well as an impressive range of DVDs. I brought fun bath stuff from Lush and had a mini "spa" afternoon after a picnic and a swim. There are also many miles of easy walking/hiking trails.
As for the area, Chetek doesn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. There are some antique stores in town, a few casual restaurants, and not a whole lot else. I enjoy old fashioned downtowns though so a stroll would be fun in my book. Chetek is probably more rustic than charming though.
My suggestion on your way down would be to stop at the Leinenkugel Brewery in Chippewa Falls for a tour and beer tasting. Canoe Bay is about 20/30 minutes North of Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls. If you go in the Fall, there are also lots of apple orchards in the area which are fun to visit.
Overall, Canoe Bay will probably be more about relaxing and enjoying the beautiful grounds, accommodations, and fine dining. I hope this helps!
