My whole family had, more or less, booked out the whole hotel for our bank holiday get together. We could not have been better looked after. We were completely 'spoiled'! Chris and all his staff were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. They certainly looked after my elderly parents very well. Beautiful environment, good service, lovely food, wonderful...

My wife and I stayed here for one night, just a flying visit and were lucky to get a room. We were welcomed by Emma, as we arrived and all our needs were asked about and catered for. We enjoyed a drink sitting by the pool taking in the garden and wildlife. We booked a table for dinner, and we...

Second visit to The Old Rectory and everything up to standard at this lovely small hotel. Owners and staff really friendly and helpful, dinners exquisite ( you really must eat here !) breakfasts very good and an overall very relaxed atmosphere. We decided to stay at the Old Rectory based on the reviews from trip advisor and yet again we weren't let down. The hotel was very pretty and has a host of original features but doesn't feel dated - its comfortable and relaxing but the absolute best bit is the food ( although the very very friendly staff come a...

We stayed four nights at The Old Rectory in room 2. It's a beautiful Georgian building dating to 1754 with nice grounds, a garden area, a restaurant, and a pool. The drawing room is comfortable with a selection of books. However, what ISN'T mentioned anywhere is that there is a railroad track right across the street and a commuter train...

We have regularly visited North Norfolk and Norwich area for the last seventeen years. We have always, until recently, chosen to stay at the Norfolk Mead Hotel where we enjoyed the excellent hospitality and comfort provided by its previous owners Don and Jill Fleming. However, our experience with the new owner when we attempted to book a stay earlier this...

I stayed in Room 1 for only one night (had to cut my trip short) as it was SO comfortable. I had been concerned about the proximity of the road and the railway line, but can honestly say I didn't hear a thing throughout the night. Breakfast was very good, and I would definitely return.

We stayed for 1 night arriving Saturday 3rd August 2013. We stayed in rooms 1 & 2 and could not fault anything. Our rooms were excellent, we even had a fantastic balcony overlooking the gardens. What a lovely place to stay. Chris and Sally have created the most wonderful place, we just wished we could have stayed longer. The pool...

We stayed for 2 nights in a large comfortable room (1) and would highly recommend this hotel. This is a warm and inviting hotel run by a couple who make you feel very welcome. The standard of food is excellent, with the use of well prepared local ingrediants coupled with a well considered selection of wines. An excellent base for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
