As most of the reviews say - The owner Chris met us as we drove in to the car park and immediatly made us welcome, after a short tour showing us The Drawing Room,Dining Room,we were taken to The bedroom which was in the outside building through The Conservatory. The overall stay which was only one night was 1st class....

Easily the best quality hotel and meal in Norwich. I've stayed in Norwich for business for around 4 years, many a bad and expensive hotel has been used. The Old Rectory was a find a year ago and I've been here a number of times. It is a rare find, a class bed and breakfast in a substantial house. Each...

We've had a two night stay and one evening meal and I can't fault anything. All the staff go out of their way to provide a pleasant stay. Our evening meal was for seven guests and it was one the best I've ever tasted. It was a belated birthday celebration and Chris even let us consume our own champagne for...

This is a great little gem of a place, run by a really pleasant and helpful team. Nothing was a problem and Chris who manages the place is charming, genuine and a great host. Three of us ate an excellent meal, I knew it would be good when I walked through he door and could smell the cooking! Comfortable and...

We stayed from 23rd-26th September. As soon as we arrived Chris came out to welcome us and show us to the balcony room. The room was spacious and well decorated and we had the bonus of sitting on our own balcony and surveying the idyllic setting. We had dinner here two nights and the meals were cooked to perfection. Along...

My wife and I have just spent four nights at the Old Rectory and cannot sing its praises too highly. It is very close to Norwich with a bus stop right outside the door. It is a small hotel so you receive individual attention. The rooms are spacious and well appointed and breakfasts and dinners of the highest quality. Add...

This is a small friendly hotel, clean and comfortable. Chris the host is a warm and kind man and is surrounded by keen and helpful staff. The food is good with a wide choice for breakfast and a fixed menu with certain options if you choose dine in the evening. The location is ideal, being very near to Norwich but...

Having thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Old Rectory earlier this year, though slightly less impressed with the accommodation, we decided to stay elsewhere on this trip, but wanted to return for dinner, and were not disappointed. Chris an outstanding host as always, and overall really friendly and welcoming staff and atmosphere - lovely to relax in the lounge with a...

What a wonderful find; from the main road you could miss this beautiful tucked-away oasis. The welcome and service were perfect. We felt so well looked after. The evening meals were exquiste, the attention to detail was marvelous. Travelling with elderly parents can sometimes be a challenge but this was made so much easier be the proffesional friendly owners and...

We enjoyed a long week-end here as a family get together, and it could not have been better. The hotel, the staff, the dinners all get a 10 out of 10 rating. Did I mention the dinners? Each course was a delight.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory, Norwich's only AA 4* Gold 'Restaurant with Rooms' is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served to your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Our Dining Room is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings (closed Sunday / Monday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The Old Rectory is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
