Went here last summer to get away from the bustle of northern Virginia/DC and it scratched every itch! You will truly feel transported to another place...a peaceful and beautiful place, surrounded by nature (and a couple goats and chickens). The owner built this retreat (her home) with her friends and opens it to guests on weekends. I stayed in the...

Truly a lovely place! My boyfriend and I really wanted to escape the crazies in DC on Labor Day weekend, and the Seneca House Barn was just the perfect place to be. We stayed for 3 nights and it was fabulous. The description and pictures are pretty spot on – charming, cozy, rustic, and you will definitely feel very one...

We stayed at Seneca House about a year ago and I cannot wait to visit again. Shelly and Bubba Lou were both so welcoming. We stayed in the barn with our dog and enjoyed an incredibly peaceful nights sleep, that is until being awoken by the rooster quite early in the morning (don't worry Shelly provides complimentary ear plugs). The...

I decided to spend the long thanksgiving weekend hiking solo in West Virginia and ended up at Seneca House near Seneca Rocks. This is a great place and the hosts were very pleasant, especially Bubba, who greeted me outside and ushered me in. I don't usually like to share accommodations, so this was outside of my comfort zone, but it...

We had a wonderful short stay at the Seneca House. We were greeted by Shelly and her dog. The house is a very quiet and peaceful place. With lots of interesting things to look at. The beds are extremely comfortable and warm. I liked the fact that we had our own heater in the room to which you could control...

My husband, dog, and I loved our stay in this adorable cabin. The room was warm and cozy, the bathroom was clean, and the living/dining/kitchen was the perfect definition of comfortable mountain cabin retreat. Our chihuahua got along well with the resident dogs, and we loved our morning walk by the variety of farm animals on this little homestead. I...

We arrived late on a dark rainy night and were very grateful that we'd gotten directions from someone before heading over as our phones and GPS weren't working in the area. As we drove down the dark narrow road on a rainy night without cell service we were all thinking "this is how horror movies start!". We were relieved and...

My wife and I booked a last minute room at the Seneca House for a weekend trip of climbing at Seneca Rocks. Shelly was very accommodating and was the perfect host. We were impressed at the amount of work it took her and her friends to build this house. The layout and decorations are spacious yet have unique character. I...

A lovely weekend of climbing and amazing accommodations at Seneca House. Shellie was super friendly and welcoming. Bubba Lou was also super friendly. It was a great relaxing atmosphere after a long day of climbing. The house is gorgeous. I will certainly be back!

We were looking for lodging near Seneca Rocks for a 1 night stop. I happened to see this place on Tripadvisor, read the reviews, & thought "Why not?" We were not disappointed! Bubba Lou is so cool. What a great welcome he gives! Shannon, the male goat had "escaped" from his enclosure & performed an entertaining game of chase with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Seneca House is a private home in Seneca Rocks with rooms for rent on weekends. There is also a renovated barn available throughout the week from May-October. Breakfast is not included with your stay, but if you stay in the house, you are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your own meals. There is also a large common area both inside, and on the back deck where guests can hang out together. The house was built entirely by friends, without contractors, and was just completed in May 2012. It has some unique features, including a spiral staircase and stone fireplace. There is also a lot of reclaimed materials used throughout the house. The house is unique and the setting beautiful, located on a quiet country road, just 5 miles outside of Seneca Rocks. The area is a beautiful escape from the city. Outdoor activities, including rock climbing, great hiking, caving, fishing, and more abound. There are also some animals on the property. A hound dog lives in the house, and chickens and pygmy goats, cats and a peacock live outside. The dog, Bubba Lou, is a fantastic host, but if you don't like animals this probably is not the place for you! If you love animals, then you might want to try staying in the renovated barn. It has a private bathroom with hot shower, and a kitchenette. The barn is quaint, and close to the goats and chickens. The rooster gives a free morning wake-up everyday. *Pets are allowed in the barn, but not the house. Some exceptions might be made. ... more   less

“Bring layers! if you're staying in the barn, it can get a little chilly.”

“The "Triangle room" is the most private in the house (except the barn). However, you need to be prepared to climb a fairly steep spiral staircase (which is totally cool in itself). The room is sparsely furnished with a full size bed, desk, dresser, and chair; that's it. It was perfect for me. Also, bring your own food, but don't be a hog. There is only one refrigerator for everyone. Besides, there are some pretty good local restaurants within fairly easy driving.”

“All the rooms are great! If you can't go up stairs then pick the bunk room or if before Nov 1st you can stay in the barn that is done up. It is not your average hotel. More like a bed and breakfast type except you bring your own food.”

“You have to go up a really cool spiral staircase to access some rooms so if you're handicapped or happen to be traveling with a lot of heavy stuff like we were ask about the rooms on the lower level.”
