Got caught in traffic coming across PA so was dark by the time we crossed out of Maryland into West Virginia. Didn't have to wonder how much farther because there is plenty of signage along the highway and the park entrance for the Cacapon State...More
Our quilting group had a lovely time at the resort. The setting is idyllic and the conference room had lots of windows the let in the picturesque views. The staff was attentive and accommodating to our specific needs.
Stayed over night. You may get a room or call ahead and get a cabin. Cabins are very reasonable and the restaurant has great food. Being October the view was breathtaking. Make sure you take personal items or the desk can supply some things like...More
This place is the farthest you can get from a resort. The rooms are poorly maintained and the furnishings are OLD. The front desk staff need refresher training in presenting a welcoming and friendly customer interaction. The lighting in most of the public areas are...More
I have been coming to the lodge at this state park for over 10 years. My favorite part is that it remains ageless. I absolutely appreciate the staff, the special deals for breakfast and massages and most importantly the cleanliness of the rooms and public...More

West Virginia is one of the most beautiful places to spend time through October and even early November. Prime autumn weather and leaf-watching is of course the second weekend in October when rooms/cabins must be booked a year ahead of time. Sometimes the weather stays relatively nice until the middle of November, however, I have alternately experienced rainy, gray miserably cold weather as early as the 20th of October in that region. If you hit a long pleasant autumn with the amber coloring of leaves lasting until early November you are fortunate, but this is entirely unpredictable in one of the cloudiest areas of the United States. Honestly, when I am lodging at Cacapon in the fall, rain or shine, I enjoy a nice warm fire in the fireplace and the wonderful meals at the Lodge dining room. Best to reserve a 2nd floor lodge room with a full unobstructed view.
