We did not stay at the hotel, we only ate at their restaurant, twice for dinner in our three days in Winthrop. We had Mexican food both times which was great. The waiters / waitresses we had were courteous and helpful. Would eat here again.

hi ed w, thanks so much for your kind words. the menu itself needs revising as the descriptions (and the many errors) do not do justice to the food nor the high quality of the meals. though the duck has many mexican items on the menu, there's something tasty and fresh for everyone, including seafood, pastas, vegetarian (and many items...

The rooms were small, no music system, no TV, no fridge…it's like Sharia law had hit Winthrop! The Mexican cooks had bought this place and it had changed dramatically since our last stay. The rooms had increased from $69 to $85 and the food has gone downhill…they even screwed up a salad and the breakfasts had been under the heat...

Management response:

our experience: the owner did indeed address this particular guest, but not in the manner claimed above. upon arrival, the guest asked, then demanded, to check in at 10:30am and was very annoyed when he was told he could not do so due to other guests occupying the room and also because the policy states check-in is at 3pm. the...

Heard this place was under new ownership so was up to giving it another try! The bed was hard as a rock, no TV although there was a shelf and cable hook up in room. Everything was just "used up" - I know it is supposed to be the ambiance of an old hotel, but this was bad. I think...

We were here last week and still like the Duck Brand. I think the menu leans a little south of the border, but the food is tasty and came out fairly quickly. The waitstaff was spotty with service but were all friendly. The rooms are rustic but clean and they inexpensive too, and I like that combination.

The short version........poor food, ONLY bottled beer available ("Draft beer didn't work out for us. It ain't that kind of place"), and terrible, slow service. We should have known it might be a problem when we realized there were only two other customers for lunch. We had lunch here during a previous visit to Winthrop a couple of years ago,...

We stayed for one night, a family of five. Got a huge room that accomodated all five easily, including a roll out bed. Room has rustic design, with high wooden ceilings. We found the room clean and comfortable. There is no TV, but we considered this a plus. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant, they have a...

We have eaten here other trips a few years ago for dinner only. Back then, it was still the old-west style inside with antiques, low lighting, dark wood, etc. We understood this place now has new ownership, management and we saw that the inside had been remodeled. The remodeling is fresher, lighter and opens it up a bit. But, it...

My wife and I visit Winthrop for a week at least once a year, from Kelowna BC. We stay at Sun Mountain Lodge, and often drive down to the town for breakfast or lunch, at the Duck Brand Inn. We've been doing this for years, and have always been delighted with the place. Excellent Mexican food served piping hot will...

This hotel is essentially a meth lab...I travel back and forth through this area often and due to a major car malfunction I got stuck here. I've reviewed this hotel before and had a terrible experience and against my better judgement to sleep in the bush's nearby I wound up once again in the crypt. Music bumping until 11 rattling...

When I booked the place I was attracted to the price and reputation of the establishment. Sadly I didn't read the reviews until after I arrived. The place is, as one reviewer put it, a nosedive to bankruptcy. Clearly they are in financial dire straits as the upkeep has slipped. Too bad as the location is great.
