Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On arrival the check in was quick and I was told that I got an upgrade for using booking.com to make the reservation to a room with a spa. The room was on the first floor, it was big, with a big comfortable bed, lots of wooden furniture and a bit outdated but still functional, plenty of cabinets for clothes, tv on the wall with YouTube and Netflix, the little fridge with complimentary water and coffee, chips and Tim Tams, the water pressure in the shower was great and the spa was fantastic!! I used it twice! There’s a small shopping centre just a few meters in the same complex and the car park is big enough but not just in front of the hotel lobby. There are pokies, restaurant and on the weekends they have live music. I couldn’t hear noise from the main road just in front of my room or even from the bar but unfortunately the noise came from the ceiling and room on the top of mine. The hotel is not far from downtown but too long if you walk to it. It was a very good value for money.

We stayed one night, very pleased with the room, cleanliness, fittings, bed, staff, service , price. I requested a room higher up in the building when I booked so we could have a view. Done. And parking was simple. We would stay again. Thankyou and well done Hurley group.

Got a free “upgrade” from a deluxe room to a deluxe room (twin) which put us on the top floor. I have a broken ankle and am on crutches and in a air boot and have had recent surgery. It took 40 minutes for a cocktail to arrive in the new lounge.. food was great. Zero sleep due to concrete cutting and roadwork construction going on outside all night.. maybe supply some ear plugs? It’s clear you know this is happening.. We were fire evacuated at 4am. I had to try and get down 6 flights of stairs on crutches during the evacuation. I had marked on my booking I was on crutches and had mobility problems, no one checked up on my welfare. An older lady slipped and had a fall in the stairwell and was bleeding heavily during the evacuation. I had to lay in the backseat of our car as I couldn’t stand up. Everyone assembled outside. No staff turned up and talked to us. No one told us we could go back in. Nothing. A guy abruptly asked room number when we walked in. Other patrons tell us this has happened multiple times in the last few days. We’ve always stayed at the Arkaba on overnight stays in Adelaide. We won’t anymore. Your staff need a lesson in hospitality.

Response from Damian Gillings, Revenue Management at Arkaba Hotel
Responded 14 Sept 2023
Hi Andrew & Leesa Thanks for your review, we are sorry things didn't go as planned during this recent stay. The fire alarm incidents have now been resolved and although on this occasion they were false alarms, it does show the Evac system working as designed and informing guests in the case of emergency. As in all emergency incidents, once one of the services arrive they become the controllers and our wardens are under their direction until such time as the incident is declared over and give the all clear. Unfortunately this may mean we are unable to offer any updates until that time and when guests are able to return to their rooms. The lady in question who tripped returned a few hours later from Hospital after receiving treatment and has recovered well at home. These guests recently phoned and expressed thanks to the other guests who asisted in the emergency and to our team for the care upon her return. After any incident, Management conduct a review with our teams and in our Emergency Response training throuhgout the year. We reassure all of our guests their safety and well being is of the utmost importance to us and we are investigating ways we may be able to improve timnely communication for future especially when staffing may be at a minimum. The roadworks have been problematic for all concerned and we understand only to well their lack of appreciation toward our guests & the impacts on your stay. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, they do not advise when nightworks noise may be intrusive and are well outside of our control. We do have earplugs for those requesting them and would encourage any guests experiencing issues to contact our friendly team for assistance. Thanks again for your feedback, we are truly sorry this recent stay fell short and you wont be returning. Kind Reagrds Damian Accommodation Manager

I know for a fact working in the hospitality industry that the fresh 'eyre' oysters and gulf prawns are frozen. Rest of the new menu is good. Worked for a company who supplied them and they defrost them in their kitchens.

Weird thing I found in my short stay in Adelaide, is that motels are similar in price to the 5 star Samford plaza, this is not a joke, parking costs aside, these motel/hotel places really are taking the P... This place , however i think i got a good deal, as i contacted the reception, and they bettered my vip price on all websites. the room, for the price was pretty impressive, spacious and clean. the bathroom was not upgraded properly, but im a guy i shower, i leave, no big deal. The TV was big, the remote is infuriating, and after 3 days, I still hate it. The hotel claims to be an `icon` in Adelaide? as it was being refurbished, that is what all the posters were telling me. Due to the refurb, everything was diverted to the sports bar, ok. I went Sunday to watch the rugby, im no idiot, i know Oddelaide is an AFL city, or now I know, VILLAGE. However a `sportsbar` boasting 6 plus screens, not only playing one sport, but only one game, on every screen>>?? beggers belief? After my 10 minute wait at the bar, before even seeing anyone, who could serve me a drink, food, or even possibly find a different sport on planet earth, I gave up. I went back to reception, over all the rubble and chaos of the reno, to ask if they could wave the ridiculous $10 room service fee, and If they could deliver to my room, as the sportsbar was mad busy, due to there being 50 plus footy team players ready and waiting to order in the sports bar with one person in attendance. After 5 minutes of, ill check with the boss, she came back and said no? I ordered dominos Not impressed by reception, especially the young arrogant blonde girl...........there is life beyond Adelaide, jeezuz.. The prices for these rooms are high, staff need training, attitude adjustment at the very least, I would stay here again if there were no vacant rooms left on planet earth. But still trying to work out if Oddelaide is part of the normal world, or just a bubble?

Popped down to the 'Sporties Bar' to watch the city's soccer team, Adelaide United, playing on the big screens as advertised, and have some food and drinks. We arrive and find 9 screens all showing a meaningless AFL fixture between Melbourne and Gold Coast with no one watching. We politely ask if one screen can be changed to the soccer, only to be told there are refurbishments going on and they can't find the remote control! - you couldn't make it up. Won't be back.

Needed to stay one night in Adelaide, chose here as it was nearer to the function than city hotels. Was a friendly check in, easy free parking. Different areas to have dinner or just relax with a drink. Room was clean, spacious and well appointed, especially the lovely bathroom. No view to speak of but that was not required for an 18hr stay ! Furnishings a little dated but in excellent repair. Main issue was being in the room next to the main housekeeping area and guest laundry room. Not massively bad but still a tad noisy. Perhaps investigate additional sound proofing ? Despite this, would consider returning.

On check in arrival was asked to pay $100 on my credit card to 'pay for any damages'. I should have realised there was something wrong right there. What kind of dump is getting continually trashed by it's guests? 36 hours later the money has not returned to my account. So I called to ask about it. Oh... it takes ten working days to be refunded. IN THIS DAY AND AGE IT TAKES THEM TEN WORKING DAYS TO GIVE BACK WHAT THEY TOOK IN 10 SECONDS? And they never said a word about it at check in (understandably) so they'd just prefer you get annoyed after you've left the hotel. I'll never go there or recommend it to anyone again.
