My wife and I just completed a three-night stay at Barclay Cottage. We were in Virginia Beach for the Neptune Festival/Boardwalk Weekend held annually during the last weekend in September. This was our second visit to the "Cottage" (the first coming in July of 2008) and once again Steve and Marie-Louise made us feel right at home. Upon entering our...

Thank you for your lovely review and for being one of our extended BnB family. Welcoming you back is the very best part of being an innkeeper. We are so glad you appreciate our family memorabilia and the rich history of Barclay Cottage. Discovering this history through our reunions with folks who actually knew the Barclay family or who attended...

My wife and I stayed with Steve & Marie-Louise for two days and we thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with them. The inn was very nice and the room was outstanding. Breakfast was awesome and their recommendations for lunch & dinner exceeded our expectations. We will definetly return to the Barclay when we visit Virginia Beach in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to review our inn. We are glad you enjoyed our recommendations. Being able to make good suggestions for local restaurants means that we must try them first. Not a bad situation! We are looking forward to your next visit. I promise we'll try some new restaurants to recommend :)

My partner choose this b&b after reading all the great reviews, we certainly were not disappointed. We needed a couple of relaxing, quiet days and that's exactly what we got here. Steve & Marie-Louise are the perfect hosts they couldn't have provided a better service. The breakfasts that Marie-Louise cooks are delicious and we thought it was very nice of...

We were so happy to welcome you to Virginia Beach from the other side of the world! It was nice of you to compliment us for joining you at breakfast...but you should know that it is entirely selfish of us...we love to get to know our guests. We had so much fun comparing the ways people here and in Australia...

We stayed with Steve and Marie-Louise for the Rock n' Roll Half Marathon over Labor Day weekend and it was such a nice stay! I think they get excited about their guests running - Steve goes down to the race to take photos of the runners and Marie-Louise has a lovely brunch later in the day. The rooms are comfortable...

I think we enjoy the Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon as much as our guests! Steve gets to watch it when he takes the pictures and we get to hear about it all when you talk about your scores after he prints them out. We love being a part of the excitement and not having to run!!! This really is...

If you could invent some cousins, aunt & uncle, or grandparents, (depending on how old you are!!) who are fun, great cooks, have so much cool stuff in the house you never get tired of looking, lend you bikes & beach chairs & towels to take to the beach, put fresh homemade cookies and coffee out for whenever, you would...

Wouldn't it be fun if we COULD choose our relatives? Well, thanks for choosing us! We look forward to our returning guests because you all feel like family to us.

Marie-Louise & Steve were wonderful hosts. We missed our flight from home (Chicago) to Norfolk, which made for a very late arrival to Barlcay. Marie-Louise was kind enough to wait up for us with food and beverages sitting in the front-room upon our arrival. I must also note our fellow guests were a delight every morning during breakfast time (food...

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Barclay Cottage. Neither of us had stayed at a bed and breakfast before; now we'll probably never stay in a chain hotel again! The inn was beautiful with many interesting antiques and books. Our room was wonderful. The bedding was great - the sheets felt like butter. The innkeepers are very sweet...

There are large comfy porches, fresh baked cookies, and wonderful hosts. It was my first time staying at a B&B in the U.S. and it was wonderful. My boyfriend ordered the couples package which was amazing. Just thinking about our stay makes me feel relaxed. The hosts are also excellent at finding just the right places for you to go...

My husband and I (and our daughter and son-in-law) had a relaxing five-night stay at the Barclay Cottage Bed & Breakfast in Virginia Beach. The innkeepers, Steve and Marie-Louise, were knowledgeable and informative hosts with a wonderful sense of humor. They rank "tops" in hospitality! The inn built in 1895 has an interesting history and is a few minutes' walk...
