The Inn is gorgeous and the grounds are a great place to relax with a cup of coffee, tea or a glass of wine. The Innkeepers are top-notch and are extremely focused on supporting local farmers and the community in general. Their breakfasts are amazing and you will want to save room for the bread pudding!!

Tappahannock is wonderful little historic town on the west bank of the Rappahannock River (across from Northern Neck of Virginia) and worth a visit for history lovers as well as just a little small town downtime! Essex Inn is a circa 1850 ante bellum house that has been lovingly restored and maintained and is well run by owners Jeremy and...

I attended a meeting at the Essex Inn and stayed there 1 night during the week. This is a wonderful B&B, with gracious hosts, comfortable rooms, and excellent food and beverages. The large building was constructed in 1841 by a leading citizen of the town. It is located in the historic district, just a block away from the Rappahannock River,...

Beautiful, historic inn with attentive and friendly hosts. We stayed in The Blue Room, complete with fire place, and it was lovely! The breakfast was fantastic! Quiet street, quiet inn, excellent recommendations for dinner. Just perfect.

My husband and I left the kids with the grandparents and stayed two nights for our anniversary weekend. We had a wonderful stay. The main house is beautiful. Breakfasts were gourmet and DELICIOUS. We loved the excellent, creative breakfasts we could choose each day. The elegant sitting rooms and dining room were comfortable and beautifully appointed. Coffee, tea, cold drinks, beer, wine and snacks offered free in the "bar room" 24 hours. Our hosts were fun to talk to and very gracious.

The Essex Inn is an elegant home in quaint town about 2 hours outside of Washington, DC. This was our second visit and just like our first a year ago it was lovely. The in keepers, Jermey and Rick, are warm hosts who aim to make your stay special. This visit we stayed in the upstairs "Red Room" in the...

For picking a B&B on a whim and making a reservation the day before, I think my mother and I lucked out when we ended up at The Essex Inn. Also we got the last available room, the laundry suite, so we were doubly lucky on that front. Set in the sleepy, small Virginia town of Tappahannock, The Essex Inn...

My husband and I spent two nights at the Essex Inn over a holiday weekend. The hosts were gracious, the main home was grand and our breakfast each morning was delicious. The first morning there was a buffet because the Inn was full - scrambled eggs, farm fresh bacon, tomatoes with basil, cinnamon roll bread pudding, fresh fruit, mini ham...

It is our goal at the Essex Inn for every guest to have a "5-star" experience. We're sorry that you did not find your stay as enjoyable as our other guests and we wanted to address your issues. We unfortunately do not administer our own internet services (I wish!). If our Service Provider is having issues, we have very little...

We were looking for comfort, quiet and a little luxury, and we found all of these and more at the Essex Inn. The breakfasts were just superb, and the extra facilities of the Butler's Pantry provided refreshment during relaxing afternoons in the lovely garden. Ric and Jeremy were excellent hosts - nothing was too much trouble. Very highly recommended.
