Detailed Reviews
I stayed at Poatina Village with a group of 23. We had a choice of motel, cottage or hostel accommodation. I chose the hostel, my room had bunk beds and 1 single bed. All beds had linen provided plus extra blankets and pillows and the rooms had a double cupboard, sink and heater. Male and female tbathroom facilities were down the hall. There was a lounge room with TV and games provided plus at the other end of the hall, a kitchenette.
We were excellently catered for with cereal, toast and coffee for breakfast, cooked lunch and a 2 course dinner, always being offered 2nd's if required and all allergies catered for.
In the village itself are a number of shops including tea room, art gallery, general store, gift shop and op-shop plus petrol. All the prices were quite reasonable and the views terrific. The coffee must have been good as the ladies were constantly bringing back steaming cups.
A wonderful bonus was free Wifi in all areas.

This is a must do destination. If you love retro this is the place to come.
Hasn't really changed since it's construction for the hydro scheme in in 1965.
Close to Launceston and fishing in the great Highland Lakes.
Very different with a great golf course. Only $10.00 a round.
If you plan to eat at the Cafe drop in or ring first if you have a large group.
Try there pies 9 out of ten. Great coffees & the views are fantastic. Staff are friendly.
This village helps groups of young people find their way in life and is really worth supporting.

The mad world disappears in this quiet place where the locals are kind, the hospitality is warm and inviting and creation is at its awesome best. The motel is modest but warm and clean and has a great cafe with magnificent views over the mountains. Thank you for allowing us to share this beautiful place.

Five stars for Jill's hot chocolates with marshmallows. Delicious! And great friendly service too! A very comfortable relaxed setting with magnificent views of the Great Western Tiers as a backdrop. Well worth a visit!

The location is excellent with stunning views of the mountains and farm land below. Poatina village is quiet and friendly with a small shop and excellent tearooms and gallery. The motel is small but the rooms are clean and tidy with every thing you require. The bathrooms are older in style but very clean.
There is a large dining room with a lounge, open fire and coffee bar.
Above all the staff are simply the friendliest most helpful hosts you can imagine.
A great place to stop over for a night or go for a few days to relax and unwind. within the village there are beautiful walks and a golf course and there is easy access to the highland lakes, Longford and surrounds.
And all this at VERY reasonable rates.

This small village was once home to hydro electric workers, since passing into private hands it has a mix of uses. I visited with the Hobart Embroiderers’ Guild for a weekend stitching retreat.
The accomodation provided ranged from individual rooms within the chalet, small cottages close to the chalet and a suite that had a lounge room, small kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Very comfortable and private.
During the time that we were there sewing in a seperate building we were provided with morning and afternoon teas as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner, all well prepared and presented. While we were there a wedding was also held and a church group held a catered lunch. All went well with no intrusion on our peaceful retreat. Well done all involved.

As noted in other reviews, this is well preserved 60’s style building in a striking location. The fact that it remains largely original and unadulterated without attempts to “upgrade” the decor over the decades, is remarkable.
The view from the dining area is likely one of the best of the Great Western Tiers, and the immediate locale is serene.
The staff were very helpful. We arrived late, and were still able to have a very good evening meal, which was much appreciated.
Hopefully places such as this will continue to be valued and preserved.

A great location with spectacular views of the countryside around, especially from the cafe and restaurant. Small motel (12 rooms), comfortable, intimate and well-priced. Some aspects, like bathrooms are slightly older but reasonable. If available, book the Commissioners Suite - had a look and is not that much extra and there is a separate lounge and facilities were good. Very friendly and helpful service. A bonus is the cafe and range of sweets - a good place to read a book or chat with friends. Interesting to read the history of the area in display boards around the motel area. Wifi is available in the cafe area.

+1
This place is straight out of the 60's. It's not retro furniture, it's original. Sat by the open fire, eating toasted sandwiches and coffee, looking up at the Great Western Tiers, finding out that there is an artists retreat just starting and another one in January. What a fantastic stop. The silence outside was beautiful. Exceptional service. Thanks.

HI Saverio. My apologies that I hadn't seen your question until now - which is after January. Did you still come and visit our beautiful town?
