Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved our cottage. We understand that a major fire destroyed the main lodge, so that has probably set the place back a bit, but the cottages are clean, tidy & cosy. The heating is great & there's everything we needed for basic cooking. Curley the Currawong bird is a bonus, as he brought berries to our door in exchange for the odd biscuit!

Walked through the door and it looked an felt fabulous. But it wasn't comfortable. 2 seater sofa needed replacement years ago. No cushioning for our butts. Bed was way too firm. Decent towels would have been appreciated. One footnote about safety - in the event of an emergency we could not call anyone as there was no landline, Optus mobile signal or WiFi. If Telstra mobile is only available, the proprietors must get satellite NBN if only to connect patrons to the outside world in an emergency.

The bathroom was well equipped and the water was beautifully hot. The bed was comfortable, the linen lovely and clean. The heater kept the place lovely and warm in the below zero conditions. However, the reason for the poor rating was we didn’t feel comfortable. The lounge was old and resulted in sore backs. We had an unknown visitor in the middle of the night probably looking for a room, shining their torch in on us, stomping around the verandah and generally making a lot of noise prior to them then setting off their car alarm. A lot of too and growing then followed. Because there was limited phone connection and no wifi there was no-one to ring. There was no internal communication system. We felt very insecure. We were on edge for the rest of the night. That is not a nice feeling.

We arrived here not knowing what to expect as we were given a voucher for Christmas. Checking in was good but when we opened the door there was a big stain on the carpet, not a good start. There was a small two-seater couch that was very stained, so we had to cover that up to sit on. The bed looked inviting but was as hard as a rock not much sleep that night. The curtains were moldy on the bottom and the bathroom had tiles coming off the walls. There were people next door smoking so when you sat outside to relax all you could smell was cigarette smoke. We arrived late knowing there would be no Restuarant and took our own nibbles. There is however a new cafe open over the road. Not sure of their hours. We understand it is a wilderness seating but is totally overgrown and needs work done. Overall, this property needs a complete revamp and soon. We were up at daylight and on the road. Please update your property

All check in details are emailed to all guests two days prior to arrival with very detailed instructions on checking in. Stains on carpets that are difficult to remove can only be addressed by completely recarpeting the room - not something that can be done on a regular basis so it will be carried out when convenient. The housekeepers will check the lounge. All curtains in all rooms are being replaced tomorrow - this was already in our maintenance schedule. I will have maintenance check the wall tiles as this has not been reported. Mattress firmness is a personal choice so is impossible to please all guests. We cannot prevent other guests from smoking on their deck area - it was unfortunate that your neighbor was a smoker. The grounds are due to have a few trees removed but this is not something that can be done whilst guests are onsite so it has to be scheduled for a more convenient time. Unfortunately I am one person who manages the entire property from a distance due to losing my home in the fire that also destroyed our restaurant. The past 10 months following the fire that destroyed the restaurant bar my home and all my belongings have been more than difficult so I am doing the very best I can fit our guests given the dire circumstances. So in response to your rude comment, “update your property” I’m gradually working through the electrical and water issues caused by the fire (contractors were onsite for nearly 5 months upgrading the power and water to all cabins), and now I have moved onto tidying up other areas. So unless you have been in my position, with no home and no personal belongings left and a business to run remotely, then I suggest you find some compassion for someone who is doing their utmost to ensure guests have a wonderful stay.

Our cabin was well appointed and comfortable. We did have a problem on arrival because we had not been contacted regarding check in. Luckily another guest was able to give me directions as to what our key code might be. Will be great if they get a facility for meals going again after it was destroyed by fire as the cabins are quite remote and there is almost nothing nearby where you can get a meal. There is a microwave oven in the cabin for heating prepared meals.

I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay. Just for reference, all guests are notified of all check in details, at time of booking and again 2 days prior to their stay. It is vital that guests read their instructions and have the details recorded prior to arrival.

There was 4 of us. 2 x over 85 & 2 x over 64 girls. It Was not what we expected, no Inn to have meals at anymore due to it burning down in May 2022. We felt isolated and hungry as we did not get informed of this happening. When we contacted the phone numbers on the door of the locked reception area, we received NO response for over 1 hour! Then received help from new caretaker who was just happening past!!! Did not appreciate being treated like a number not people distressed that we could Not get into our accommodations at dusk!

To set the story straight it should be noted that this booking was made by a third party agent (Flight Centre). The agent DID NOT advise Cradle Forest Inn of the guests contact details. All check in details and information about there being no onsite restaurant was sent to the contact details given to us by the online booking agent (Agoda). Cradle Forest Inn can only send information to the contact details provided - we can not be held responsible for a third party agent who does not give correct contact details and does not pass on important information to guests. These guests were sent all information (using the contact information provided by their booking agent) two months prior to arrival and again 2 days prior to arrival. So YES be CAREFUL of who you choose to book with and ensure you receive all relevant information prior to arrival. Our contact information is correct but unfortunately we were out is range for a short period of time.

we stayed here with two other couples in May 2022 for two nights in order to access Cradle Mountain. The cabins are large and comfortable, certainly not five star - but you get what you pay for. An easy half hour drive to the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre. Food at the Inn was good, although the service was at times not up to scratch. It seemed that every time we ordered something, someone missed out. We ordered six coffees, only five came out. We ordered six breakfasts, only five made it to the table. We ordered six meals for dinner, they made it to the table over a half hour period. It can't be that hard, can it?

We stopped in on our way from Cradle mountain to Penguin. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we sat at a table with the window view as the one by the fire was taken. Had nachos and Blue cheese and mushroom pizza. Both were very tasty and enjoyable. We only sent one crust from the pizza back when we were finished as we just couldn’t fit it in, even though we wanted to. Thank you for a quick enjoyable meal as we passed through the area.

We were travelling as an extended family (4A and 2C), and Cradle Forest Inn looked the ideal accommodation with 2 cabins! Cabins are comfortable with kitchenette facilities so you can make lunch or breakfast (no hotplate/stovetop, but does have toaster and microwave + crockery etc). Comfortable queen size bed, very efficient electric heating, and foxtel (satellite) TV. Park right out side the cabin, and short stroll up to the Inn's dining room/restaurant. Approx 45 mins drive to the Cradle Mountain Visitor centre work walks etc. See separate review on the restaurant/dining room which we found to be very good, in terms of value and very suitable for our family of 4A and 2C, with a good selection of options. If you're looking for a 5-star flashy, hotel experience, you are in the wrong place, but Cradle Forest Inn does offer a family run & very comfortable/functional 3.5 - 4 star accommodation which in our view was great value. Room/bathroom was clean, and worked perfectly for us! We would happily return based on our experience...
