Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed 1 night before catching the ferry back.
Michael was very good in communicating via email. The place is well located, very close to the ferry and good eating options close by.
The room was large and clean, bed was comfortable.
TV is in an awkward position where you have to sit on the double bed to view it, not on the sofa.
The sea views vary in quality depending which room you get.
Its ok value for money.

Brilliant location. While the rooms are basic they contain what a family needs and even for a couple, like us, they fit the bill. Very close to ferry terminal, next door to car rental and within waliking distance of cafes, supermarket and beach.

Large, spotless units overlooking beautiful Penneshaw Beach. Right next to ferry, car hire ( don't go past Jen from Budget) walk to IGA, cafes, great hikes. The guys who run this place are passionate about this beautiful area and have renovated these units tastefully. If you're prepared to do some driving, this place has more to offer than Kingscote.

This hotel represents excellent value for money. It is located within 150-meters of the ferry terminal, 100-meters of IGA, and closeby to tourist activities. There are cafes and pubs located in short walking proximity. The hosts are friendly and excellent at providing on-ground information on places to visit and things to do. The facilities are all you need for a clean and comfortable stay.

After staying in Penneshaw for the week & being curious about Penneshaw Beach stay travelling past each day we were ready to leave saying - we must check that place out. Then … in came the weather, no ferry we were stuck!
Nowhere to stay we were so lucky to be picked off the list of many enquires & offered a room for the night.
So comfortable, quality linen, very clean and modernised, plenty of space for 3 adults & a child, great touches of fridge, microwave, tea & coffee & fantastic location. Easy walk to supermarket, eateries etc. The owners were so friendly & kind. It’ll be on the list for a return trip for sure and we will never forget how fortunate we were. Thank you

The accommodation was fantastic - plenty of space for four people in the room, and the beds were comfy. The room had all necessities for a relaxing stay. Was lovely to sit and watch the ferry come and go from the window whilst drinking a coffee.
Hosts were also lovely. Cannot recommend enough.

We have stayed in numerous YHA establishments in Australia (and around the world) and we have been surprised by some truly wonderful accommodations. Unfortunately, this is not one of those YHAs.

There has been no concession to comfort here, whatsoever; the rooms are cramped (with the exception of the family room) with the feel of a hospital ward – floors are pale linoleum and furniture is made for purpose and not aesthetics or comfort. Admittedly, the rooms are clean and the manager (Sally) was absolutely lovely but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to shake the feeling that we were somehow being ripped off.

We had originally booked a double/triple room but upgraded immediately to a family room (just for 1 couple) due to the cramped space and the fact that we would be sharing one toilet and shower with two other rooms (so potentially 6 other people). The fact that noise would travel easily in the small area between the three rooms didn’t help.

As mentioned, Sally was lovely and I don’t want this to reflect badly on her - the accommodation just needs a massive overhaul in order to get it up to anywhere near the standards of many other YHAs around the world. I don’t feel like I’m exaggerating when I tell you that a little piece of me died inside when we stepped into each of the rooms. We were paying a budget price and expecting a budget room, the problem is that these rooms feel as though any modicum of comfort was actually purposefully removed to ensure guests regretted their decision. The kitchen is quite nice though.

If you are looking for a great budget option on Kangaroo Island, we’d recommend going straight to Kingscote and staying in the Central Backpackers there. Super comfortable budget rooms at a fantastic price await.

Got off the boat in Penneshaw and walked about 3 minutes up a slight hill to the YHA. Clearly signposted. Check is was a breeze and the reception was full of informative leaflets and posters which helped us plan the rest of our stay in KI. Room was very clean and beds comfortable. Bed sheets provided and check out process very easy. Kitchen comes equipped with everything necessary. Only thing that you need is a padlock for the lockers. Sadly they don't rent these out..

UNFORTUNENTLY I CANT RATE A 0.
Look not only was the owner a horrible owner from the first instance, when he told off the kids for laying in the hammick. But from the get go they sharged us for 3 rooms when we only got 2 rooms for 15 PEOPLE!! HOW COULD THAT WORK?? The owner (man) was rude, laughed and scoffed when leaving a conversation. And the lady ...oh god.. said that "you didnt read the website"
Absolutley disgusting humans. They gave limited beds, limited kitchen (shared between 9 rooms.
Looked like someones thrown random "rooms" and called it a lodge.

The man told us off for washing 3 plates at 10.30pm when he said it would wake others, considering it was just our family and nobody was sleeping in the disgusting rooms.

And worst yet, they wouldnt refund the over drawn amount because (its hilarious)
We apparently lost the remote and he needs to buy a new tv now so he cant refund the money. What disgustment.

Save yourself. DO NOT COME HERE PLEASE. EVERY PERSON HATED IT
