Wanderers Rest is a great place to stay. Steve picked me up from the airport and things proceeded in a a warm genuinely friendly manner for the rest of my stay. The room was comfortable and had a veranda where I could watch the bird life especially the endangered glossy black cockatoo which I saw every day while sitting on the veranda.
The food was so good. One night as I was the only guest (as Covid continues to make it impact felt) they asked if I would mind having dinner in my room. That was fine by me. They were happy to cook whatever I wanted. I said some seafood so they prods sumptuous array of hot and cold seafood with a salad. I gave it my best shot but couldn’t fit it all in. Their restaurant produced wonderful food and great service. I’m so glad I chose to stay there

My husband, myself & another couple spent 4 nights here recently after winning an online auction. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. We had rooms 4 & 5 & both were well appointed with huge beds, wall mounted TV, reverse cycle Airconditioning, 2 seater lounge, table & 2 chairs with an extra outdoor setting on the balcony, coffee/tea making facilities, toaster , microwave & the bathroom even had a heated towel rail. Views from the huge windows & balcony were superb & there was plenty of room to store our e-bikes on the balcony too. Steve greeted us on arrival & showed us to our room & explained restaurant/reception hours & was happy to provide any information that we required. We often contacted him via message to make bookings at their in-house restaurant(Glossy Black) his wife, Kym also made us a booking for the Pop-up Tru Thai restaurant on the night that Glossy Black was not open. Rooms & beds were comfortable, quiet & easy to access, although parking was occasionally a little difficult. The restaurant was fantastic, with great decor & ambiance & it was nice to see a place where the tables were sufficient distance apart to enable ease of movement & lack of patron noise to inhibit conversation. The menu caters for all tastes & includes, entrees, mains & desserts & the presentation of all meals was superb on the 2 nights we ate there. Seafood platters (which are huge) are also available by preorder & although we didn’t have one, they looked superb. The drinks list supplies local wines (both by glass & bottle), some local beers, & no doubt a range of spirits & Port (we received a complimentary glass of Port on both dining occasions). Steve & Kym are great hosts & went out of their way to ensure our stay with them at Wanderer’s Rest was exceptional. I can highly recommend their establishment & will happily return on our next visit.

What a lovely spot to stay. Clean and comfortable with a balcony looking across American River. We had dinner in the restaurant on 3 nights and had beautifully presented and very tasty meals each time. A friendly family run business and we will certainly stay again.

I never write reviews unless they are really great and then we will post positivity because we know how hard it is to be a business owner. However, this place is shocking and by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had and I've stayed all over Australia, America and Vanuatu. I would beg my friends and family not to visit this place because I would be concerned if they were so feel obligated to share our experience with other travelers.
The owners are extremely rude and the owner Kim is a bully and personally messaged me very rude remarks after I mentioned that I was concerned about the service we were receiving. Instead of trying to help make our experience a more pleasurable one she said that we can leave and stay somewhere else but we had paid in full and they were not willing to refund our money.
Upon checking in we were not greeted and were sent to the wrong room upon entering were told it was the wrong room and to go into room 5 which we did. Upon entering there was mould in the bathroom and public hair all over the bathroom sink. They are called a bed & breakfast but we're not offered breakfast. We were also not given shampoo or conditioner. They do not service your room including making your bed, providing clean towels or emptying your bins it is expected that you do this yourself even after paying $180 a night I would think they would at least provide clean towels and toiletries.
Once I questioned about the cleanliness and breakfast that is when the owner was very unprofessional and personally contacted me. The plates and cutlery they provide are also dirty and I found dried food on the plates it is expected that guests wash these themselves in the bathroom sink and it is clear that they don't go over them to clean it once the guest has left.
The disappointing thing is that the hotel has amazing potential it is in a great location. Also Kangaroo island is such a beautiful place. Everyone else on the island and all the tours, farms, wineries and experiences were run by such beautiful and kind hearted people which is what had me so shocked.

I'm not sure how they have had such good reviews in the past but perhaps they are going through some stuff but until something is done about the service or the attitude of the owners I highly recommend staying clear of the place.

We arrived at 3pm but the reception was closed. Due to this we relied on the guest information booklet in our room which stated that breakfast was served daily from 8am, as it is a B&b. We waited at the dining area from 8-8:45am but no one turned up. We called 2 different numbers but no answer. We left and I emailed the owners. There was no information in the room regarding this, just saying rooms can't be cleaned due to covid (even though there's no restrictions in the state, and they can run a restaurant on premises at night?). They apologised by giving a $10 bottle of wine which was nice, but brekky cost us $30... Shouldn't be 4 stars - could hear next door snoring at night, the whole building moved when ppl walked in the corridor, 2 token pieces of gym equipment jammed in a room (a pin loaded machine & x-trainer), unfiltered and unheated pool, killed 4 cockroaches during the stay, no mini bar... Things you'd easily expect for a 4 star venue. Spend an extra $20 a night and book out a whole house on Airbnb..

The whole experience was terrible. We did not see the hosts. On arrival there was a typed instruction that our key was in the door and a telephone number that was an answering system. Nobody answered! There was no compendium or information. The room is so so tired. It’s such a pity because the view is beautiful. There was no milk in the frig for tea or coffee. There was a strange scratching noise in the ceiling all night. Breakfast was part of the deal so we rolled up at the restaurant in the morning which was locked. No answer on the phone so we gave up! It was the worst accommodation experience we have endured.

At Serafino Bushfire Fundraiser for KI we won a voucher for 5 nights accommodation with continental breakfast included. We were very excited so off we went!
Very disappointed with property at arrival. While the views from the property & rooms were amazing the experience was marred by the general tiredness & run down condition overall. The windows were filthy, the towels were smelly & the rooms needed a good spring clean!! Continental breakfast wasn’t as expected with 5 days supplied in one go! Really enjoyed our stay on KI but would love to see this property reach its potential!

We stayed in this family-run hotel as a part of our 2-day trip to Kangaroo Island. The hotel is located in a tiny town on the island. Fully run by the couple who owns the place, you get very nice treatment. The room was also nice, quite spacious, and had a terrace with a nice view of the ocean. The building where the rooms are located is not very soundproof, though, so I hope for not much noise from the neighbours :). We did try the breakfast, which is served in the main lobby. It is presented very nicely, but the choice of foods is very limited. Ok for short stays, but I would probably look elsewhere if 2 nights or longer.

We wanted to stay another night in the area and happened to find this lovely lodge. The owners are so friendly and lovely. They have only owned the property for five months and have great plans for the future. The room was quiet and clean with a great view over the bay. Breakfast was great lots of fresh fruit and cereals and delicious homemade jams. Coffee was great. We would thoroughly recommend this lodge it is reasonable in price, great service and super friendly.
