What a place. I spent 2.5 months at the lodge during my 88 days. It was a really lovely place to call home during that time. The facilities are good. Multiple showers, and a gym on site. The kitchen could be bigger for the number of backpackers but this also made for such a homely bussely feel in the evenings and on the weekends. I was lucky to have met some amazing people, one of which was the caretaker, Jeanie. She was a true legend and so caring to us all. She is the heart and soul of the lodge!!

I spent three months in the lodge during the avocado season. I loved the place! The facilities were good- including the gym, the chilled hammocks space, the party areas and the dorms. What really made the difference here were the people! A special mention to Jeanie, the hostel gem! She made the place feel homely and showed a caring attitude to all that entered the hostel. I’ve loved all of our chats together and on the hard farm-work days she’d always put a smile on my face!

Childers eco-lodge is the perfect place to connect with other backpackers and to have a great time. I lived in one of the dorm rooms for 5 weeks to work on a farm and was sad to leave the eco-lodge in the end. The location as well as the people made the stay perfect. Vanessa and her husband have created a beautiful place to work and relax near Childers!

I spent the best time ever in this place. I knew amazing people; Rhys, Vanessa and Jeannie were so kind and always available. Rhys found me a job straight away and I got my 88 days in 3 months. Go to this place and you will feel like being in a big family. Thank you for all the good memories I have From Italy with love, Sandy

Hourly paid jobs, respectable farms, no deposits, competitive pricing for working hostels, great facilities, 10 minutes to town and 3 cities + multiple beaches within 45 minutes and in general you'll work your first day within 1-3 days of arrival. I arrived at the Eco-lodge in July 2019 and stayed there all the way until August 2020 being the longest survivor, finishing 88 days for 2nd visa and doing 6 months plus extra for the third. Had an amazing experience and felt welcomed from the start, both from Rhys, Vanessa and Jeannie (she'll always make you smile no matter how rough your day has been) but also the people staying there. During the stay I worked on organic small crops, avocado's, lychees and mangoes- enjoying the fruits of the labour, working with awesome managers, supervisors and co-workers, always being paid on time on a weekly basis without a hassle. At times work can be rough, luckily most jobs are picking and the avocado season that lasts a good 6 months (Mar-Sep) is likely one of the easiest farm jobs you'll ever land. Of course you always have to give your best no matter what the job is and when you do, you are well appreciated both at work and at the lodge. One of the managers I had, Shaun at Donovans is hands down the best manager I've worked with so far in life, any category. The hostel manager Rhys was always easy to communicate with and very reasonable, but keep in mind that if you need anything keep it within business hours as he has a family with young kids and up to 75 people on something like 10 farms to keep track of. And if you're ill or for some reason need a day off then talk with your manager as you are directly employed with the farms you are placed on. The lodge itself is such an awesome place, there's a little cinema with a big smart tv and bigger sound. There's an outdoor place called Mexico walled off from the dorms where people can chill by a fire, have a few drinks or go "haywire" on a Friday night without disturbing the peace too much. There's a well equipped gym, great barbecues and a hammock area. The kitchen area gets busy during the peak, but you'll always be able to cook a meal. Other than that a lot of environmental thinking goes into the place, solar power, no flush toilets (works wonders), reuse of grey water where possible and recycling. You're within 45 minutes to 3 smaller cities (Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay) that has a lot to offer, 30 min to beach and from Hervey you can go Fraser Island or the Great Barrier reef. All in all a great experience and awesome place to do your farm work, 2nd and 3rd visa's. I heard the lodge being called a "passion project" and it's truly what it is. Don't forget to play some with Mango the hostel dog. The highlight of my experience is meeting the love of my life, who knows what the lodge may bring you!

I was one of those people that left farm work to the very last minute. I had around 92 days left on my visa and was freaking out thinking that it's going to be impossible to find anywhere where I could complete my 88 days in such a short period of time and that I should probably just give up the hunt BUT then I stumbled upon Childers Eco-lodge. 2 days later I had arrived and the next day Rhys had already found me a job. I didn't think it was going to be possible but I actually completed my 88 days successfully. I was also really grateful for the farm that I was put on (Dorrians) I had a great experience working with them. The Ecolodge was always so nice to come back to after a looooong day of work, it felt like a home away from home. It's a beautiful place, with nature surrounding you. Keep an eye out for the beautiful sunsets and sunrises. It has everything you need, everything is cleaned daily, shout-out to Jeannie (the lodges mum) who does an incredible job keeping up with everyone's mess and is also always lovely to have a chat with. I was so blessed to meet such nice people from all over the world who ended up becoming family. Also just a heads up if you're looking to find your soulmate I'd also recommend the lodge as that's what happened to me haha! To conclude, I recommend EVERYONE looking to do their farm work to come to Childers Ecolodge. I honestly don't believe that there's a better working hostel that can compare to the amazing job that Rhys and Vanessa do. I am beyond grateful to them because I don't think that I would still be in Australia without their help. I ended up staying at Childers Ecolodge for 5 1/2 months and will never forget it, I've brought with me so many amazing memories. All I have left to say is a huge thankyou! So there you go 10/10 recommend!!!!!

Childers Ecolodge is more than just a working hostel, it is a home with a family. And even though that family changes over time it somehow always involves the most beautiful people. Doing farm-work in Australia can be a difficult experience, but it can also be a beautiful experience filled with joy and laughter. I think Ecolodge is by far the best place in Australia to do your 88 days. Having the comfort of knowing you’ll have a good and fair hourly paid job as long as you work hard is something that should be quite normal, but rarely is. In Ecolodge not only do you have this comfort, you get to enjoy it with a loving family in a place anyone would be lucky to call “home”.

I was here 8 month in total and I absolutely loved it. It’s not like your regular working hostel. You have lots of different places to chill. You have the choice to camp or stop in a dorm which is also cool. Great people and great vibes. Would defiantly recommend.

Childers eco lodge So me and 4 friends happened to find this place when we wrote on the Backpackers Job Board Facebook page complaining about a really bad experience in Bundaberg. Rhys & Vanessa, the owners, were so keen to help me and my friends to have a good farming experience in order to complete our 88 days, and they did way more than just that. The Eco Lodge has given me friends for life, both from the lodge and the farm we were working on. I can’t credit Dorrians enough for the way they treat their staff. Both the Lodge and the Farms expect good, loyal, hard working and honest people. If you can give them that, then I promise you’ll have an amazing stay. Rhys & Vanessa are always there to help you, they are constantly looking for new ways to improve and build the lodge. They even have hostel pets such as the dogs, and the pigs (if you can call pigs pets haha) I honestly cannot thank them enough for everything they have done, all the help they provided and the home they had given me for my 7 months here. We built a huge family during the Corona Virus and Rhys and Vanessa were keeping us well informed whilst the pandemic was happening. They had given me a home away from home, a sense of security and memories that I can never ever forget. I highly doubt there is a working hostel as good as this in the whole of Australia. Amazing, fab, great, love it. Hope to see this place again at some point!
