Seven Spirit Bay is an iconic Northern Territory wilderness lodge and one of the very first luxury lodges in the outback. Built in 1990, the lodge is located on the western side of Port Essington in the Garig Gunak Barlu National Park on the Cobourg Peninsula. It is only accessible by boat from Black Point, or by air via the lodge’s private airstrip at Vashon Head. Acquired by Outback Spirit in 2015, Seven Spirit Bay has received a new lease of life thanks to a $3.5 million redevelopment completed in April 2016. The original guest accommodation, known as ‘habitats’, have been completely transformed into ultra-luxurious rooms featuring architecturally designed ensuite bathrooms, beautiful furniture and a front balcony. Other improvements at the lodge include a new waste water treatment plant, new power generation system and a fully refurbished main lodge building. In addition to the lodge redevelopment, Seven Spirit Bay now features a fleet of expedition boats to explore the pristine waters of Port Essington and the Garig Gunak Barlu National Park. At a glance • Iconic NT lodge acquired by Outback Spirit in 2015. • $3.5 million redevelopment completed in April 2016 • Superb main lodge building with ocean views and palm fringed swimming pool • 12 Luxurious ’Habitats’ featuring ensuite bathrooms • Exclusive to Outback Spirit guests • State-of-the-art fleet expedition boats • Commercial kitchen with in-house chef

It was a strange time, the lodge had been reopened to accommodate a handful of other guests and my husband and I, who had been booked to go fishing at Barra Lodge. The resort is truly 5 star, stunning outlook, gardens, rooms, pool, restaurant, fishing etc. We could not have been looked after any better. Our room was very well designed and the comfort of the bed, pillows, linen etc was second to none. The restaurant was top quality, and most nights we had fish that had been caught that very day. The slow cooked lamb rump was superb too.
The fishing boats were very comfortable and the fishing guides were excellent, and good company.
Right down to the “limo” ride to the “airport” and watching the airstrip be cleared of buffalo poop!!
It was a surreal time, and as we left, the whole resort was also going into lockdown.
Absolutely 100% recommended.

Brilliant in every way!
This is an amazing and stunning place to stay. Leith manages this place like clockwork! All the staff are exceptional especially Erin, and the guides Sam, Jason and Syd. The accommodation is luxurious, clean and has air con! The food is 5 star and plentiful….you will put on weight! The grounds are well maintained and the sunsets off the deck are beautiful, especially when the wait staff bring you more drinks and your canapés! The pool is lovely as are the sitting areas. The tours are a good mix of fishing, walking,history and nature.
All up the whole tour we were on run by Outback Spirit was perfect.

We enjoyed three wonderful days at Seven Spirit Bay. The resort is located on a beautiful bay with well manicured, lush gardens and a magnificent view across turquoise waters. The restaurant, lounge and pool areas are very classy and the rooms are simply superb - large, comfortable, very well and tastefully furnished, with a luxurious bathroom and a delightful deck overlooking the water. The food was as good as you would get in a very good restaurant in the big smoke and there was more than enough with large servings. All the staff were exceptional and they made our stay very memorable.

We spent 4 nights at SSB.Excellent location in a true wilderness environment.Accomodation was excellent plus the meals were first rate.The offered excursions were interesting but lacked cultural authencity given no First Nation peoples were involved.Some suggestions:
-involve First Nations people as guides;
-offer excursions with a greater cultural component eg bushcraft in practice;
-offer bird watching around the Resort ie focus on Rainbow Pita,Great Bower Bird,different Lorrikeets, birds of prey
Having said that the fishing was first rate.
Staff were excellent including Sam,Jessica and Syd.

What a delight Seven Spirit Bay is. The team there is completely focused on delivering quality in every area, from immaculately manicured grounds, through the serving of beautifully presented and plentiful food, through to the oh sooo comfy beds, and if you need a break from the midday heat – continuous aircon throughout the resort.
And then there were the animal encounters – fantastic fishing – both out in the open catching large and small pelagics, or chasing barra amongst pristine mangroves, and occasionally just putting the rod down and absorbing the majesty of it all. During our 5 day stay we saw wild banteng and buffalo cattle, dingoes, pygmy wallaby, an albino crocodile, a huge variety of birdlife, and eagles hunting fruit bats.
We had a terrific time, and can’t wait to come back.

Spent 2 nights in this wonderful remote country. The manager runs a very professional yet relaxed ship. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are beautiful and many have water views. Food excellent with a generosity of serving size. Everything at your finger tips, you want for nothing

This resort has changed management several times, so only reviews in the last 2 years reflect the current situation.
It is owned by Outback Spirit and used exclusively for its tours across Arnhem Land.
Outback Spirit do an excellent job of managing their camps and this is probably the jewel.
Beautifully laid out and furnished.
The only unfortunate thing is that guest on the tours stay only 2 days.

This was our final lodge on the Outback Spirit Arnhem Land tour. All I can say is WOW! What a beautiful location. Delightful accommodation with new ensuite bathrooms. The grounds are lovely. The main lodge was well cared for and furnished comfortably. It has a well used swimming pool overlooking the bay. The cuisine was delicious. I would have liked another night at this lodge. The staff are amazing, friendly and only too happy to assist you.

Response from OutbackSpirit, Guest Relations Manager at Seven Spirit Bay Wilderness Lodge
Responded 14 Nov 2018
Dear Cathie Thank you so much for the great review of our lodge, Seven Spirit Bay earlier this year. We must apologise for our late reply. We are thrilled to hear such positive things about our lodge. It certainly is a wonderful place to end an incredible tour, and there is nothing better than a dip in the palm-fringed pool after a warm day! Several guests have expressed the same desire to spend more time at the lodge, so in 2019 we have extended the stay on our Arnhem Land Wilderness Adventure to 3 nights, allowing guests time to fully immerse themselves in this spectacular location. With Seven Spirit Bay also opening for short stays in 2019, we hope to welcome you back in the future! Kind regards Seven Spirit Bay Guest Relations

Exclusive, luxurious, beautiful surroundings with excellent new cabins situated to make the most of the views, plenty of privacy, only a short walk through the bush to the dining and lounge areas. Agile wallabies on the lawns, plenty of bird life making the most of the swimming pool and the bush near our cabins. And lots of crocs to watch from our decks or the verandah near the bar and dining area. The food was excellent, staff friendly and nothing was trouble to them. The guides knowledgeable and entertaining. We would have liked to stay longer. The only drawback was now walking on the beaches.
