First impressions are great, the gardens and buildings look beautiful. The roses were out and created a fabulous display. Unfortunately thats where it ended. The room was less than impressive not at all like the website. The bathroom needed a good hard scrub to remove mould from the tiles, it was also in need of some serious repairs, broken tiles etc. The tea and coffee making facilities were in a common area, all well and good for through the day, however I dont want to get dressed first thing in the morning and traipse to a public area to make a cup of tea. No TV in the rooms either only 1 in the common room. For $220 per night I expect quite a bit more. We wont be returning.
From the moment we turned off the Hume Highway into the driveway of Eling Forest Winery, we were taken away by the lush gardens and charm of the estate. Carol greeted us and took us to our room, the Bridal Suite, which we had for the weekend. The room was spacious and intimate, with a picturesque view across to the lake. We then strolled down to the Cellar Door for a wine tasting with Michelle, who was full of knowledge and excitement. Their wines were delicious and it was lovely to learn the history of the estate. We booked the spa which was located just behind our room, under a gorgeous oak tree completely immersed into the garden - a must do!! All rooms on the grounds were booked for the night yet we hardly saw anyone, it felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves. There were plenty of secluded areas you could relax and picnic, or read, away from crowds and noisy groups you may find at other bed and breakfasts. We had requested dinner at the estate to avoid having to drive anywhere and we were so glad we did!! We had authentic Udon chicken noodles - a perfect portion and a complimentary cheese platter. The coffee at the cafe was delicious and the ladies who worked there were so smiley and friendly. Definitely don’t leave without having a coffee! It was a beautiful and relaxing weekend and I highly recommend to stay - the photos on their website don’t do it justice. Michelle was so accommodating, friendly and her hospitality was delightful.…
I’m in Canberra and my 2 besties are in Sydney. Years ago, we decided to schedule 6mthly catch ups rather than just getting together whenever an ‘occasion’ arose! We initially started nominating somewhere new each time. Was told about Eling Forest so decided to try it. It is fabulous!!! We have now decided to just make this ‘our place’. Can’t fault it, food is awesome, lots of variety from a toasted sandwich to roasts, risottos, pasta....amazing sweet options too. Lovely veranda with umbrellas outside, fireplace inside. Obviously a winery, so can include that too if you like. Don’t miss this place, half way Canberra/Sydney, whether you want lunch or just a cuppa.
Great half way stop from Sydney to Canberra. We’ve been been here several times and always found the food and service good. The bacon and eggs and sourdough are delicious and the tomato full of flavour. The fruit tart is full of flavour. The fire was on when they opened and was very welcoming. They also have toilets....good to know when breaking up a trip
Ahhhh Second time I’ve stopped here for coffee, when I’ve checked your website to see if your open and you’re not!! I’m sure the 4 cars driving in behind us would have also been annoyed. Best call ahead if you’re planning to stop here.
