Exceptionally pleasant and pleasant, that's how you can sum up the quality of the "Tödiblick". The ride in the horse-drawn carriage from the mountain station to the hotel was a wonderful experience, and the subsequent care by the staff and the warm landlady was extremely friendly.

There are only positive things to say about the house itself: a tasteful room facing SW (towards the forest and absolutely quiet) with a balcony and an immaculate bathroom, and of course everything was spotlessly clean. The evening meal was delicious and the breakfast was a real treat! The four of us actually all thought that we had hardly ever had such an excellent breakfast in a hotel before.

All in all, highly recommended, as is the wonderful landscape of Braunwald. The "Tödiblick" is therefore undoubtedly a hot tip and in summer an ideal starting point for numerous hikes in the beautiful Glarus region.

WHAT A VIEW! Clean room and washroom, Loved our quiet balcony. There is a lift for luggage. Reception(Barbara) was exceptional as she quickly fixed our room to include our requested balcony. Enjoyed the local cheese in our fondue dinner. Dining room overlooked expansive mountain views. Extremely comfortable beds.

always when in Braunwald, we come here to eat. almost and about every day. especially now, out of season, when other places are closed. but anyway Todiblick has simply the best menue and the best fook. a great choice from simple to more sophisticated dishes, for a fair price. the view from the terrace is stunning and already worth half the price. definitely our favorite in Braunwald - and a place to come back to, again and again.

Staying at Hotel Tödiblick is always a privilege. This is a family-run hotel where guests become one of the family. The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming. In the lounge we could curl in the comfy sofas in front of the fire - next to the cat. Or play some tunes on the piano. The food is all home-made, fresh, quality produce. Braunwald itself is a car-free village. The hotel's only vehicle is Harto the horse who will transport your luggage to and from the funicular. Peace, quiet, sunshine, mountain views.

Visited Todiblick for a long lunch on the terrace on 31-12-2017. Stayed here several times. It was a beautiful sunny day--very cold but sitting in the sun on the terrace you could wear a sweater only! Excellent service, great food, beautiful south facing view of the alps. Braunwald is not touristy, is family friendly and car free. Traditional hearty Swiss dishes--Rosti, Gulaschsuppe, potatoes etc. This is not a "fancy" hotel--it is a hidden gem where privacy is respected and they don't fuss over you--you are there for the outdoors!

From the minute you step into this charming hotel, you feel as if you are home. The atmosphere is instantly warm, which isn't so easy when it is well below zero outside!!

My family and I came to visit for a week of skiing. We were picked up by horse and carriage, pulled by two beautiful ponies (pictured) up the mountain to the hotel. The walk up is beautiful and you can't help but feel as though you are in a fairytale.

The hotel itself is lovely, with every amenity you could need for your stay. We were unlucky to have one day of bad rain and sleet on our trip and so could not ski. This wasn't a problem as the hotel offers tv rooms with a huge variety of movies to watch. We cozied up to a movie and glass of wine watching the snow through the window. Beautiful.

The view from the room (pictured) is breathtaking. You will be hard pushed to find anything quite as spectacular. Try sitting out on a sunny day and have a meal on the terrace. Regardless of the cold, you will be in heaven.

Each night we went for the 5 course set menu. My god the food. You better come here with an appetite because you will not be able to leave food on your plate, it is that good. Breakfast is also very good with a huge selection of continental and cooked on request.

There is so much more I could say about this hotel, but I think it's best if you experience it for yourself, as I did. It is a place you go to switch off and unwind, and unwind I did.
I cannot thank the owners and staff enough for making our stay so special and memorable. I will 100% be back to stay again soon.

Braunwald is truly a special place. Easily the most beautiful village I've ever been to in the Swiss Alps. The view from our balcony on the 3rd floor at Alexander's was unbelievable!!!! The magic starts as soon as you get on the funicular and head steeply up the mountain to the car-free village of Braunwald. Once you get off the funicular you know you're in a spectacular little village. Then Alexander's picks you and your luggage up and transports you up the steep road to the their charming boutique hotel/chalet by horse and carriage! So memorable!!!! Our room was small but comfortable, but the balcony with its staggering mountain and valley views will simply blew us away. Bedding and bathroom were excellent. A nice plate of fresh local fruits greeted us. The hotel has a spacious lounge and library, terrace and restaurant. Menu, quality of food and wine list were superb. Service was always polite and helpful. If you're looking for a quintessential Swiss Alps experience, I'd book a 3-7 night stay at Alexanders in magical Braunwald. It's not overrun with tourists like Murren. Fantastic hiking trails abound and literally start right at the front door of this hotel. Highly recommended!

We again visited Todiblick in November,,, It is always a great stay. This year a friend went with us,, it was during the low season,,,,, We had 5 days of sunshine. The rooms as usual are great,, clean,,, food is the best we have ever had ,, anywhere,.
Of course the staff and owners are always superb,,,,,, From the time we are picked up at the station till Alexander gave us our lunch for on the train,,, (at 5:AM their hospitality can not be beat. Yes it is visiting old friends..... Just as a vacation should be. The weather was wonderful this year,,,,,, sunshine every day. But last year with snow almost every day,,,, it was just as enjoyable. Always some conversation,,,, fun ,, and people to visit with when we are not wondering around someplace......Boy is it nice.

My wife and I visited again in 2010, I think it was our 8th visit, going back to the old hotel.
Some of the discomforts some people realize, I cherish. Fond Memories are made from experiences some not so comfortable. I was 74 years old and my wife 68 when we made our last trip. It is only because I am not in great shape,,, but even though the horse cart picked us up, I still walked most of the way (although I no longer can carry my own pack as I did on my first trips)
We do not ski, so I cannot give imprssions of the skiing, but I do know there can be huge amounts of snow there. 3 years of so , ago there was 1 1/2 meter,,, about 5 feet.
The food is superb, service A1 or better, The wait for the food is another little hidden treasure. While waiting the (WHAT 1 1/2 hour?) food, aprox 30 minutes was part of the enjoyment, it gave us the oportunity to visit with guests from northern Switzerland and a couple from Germany. What a cultural experience and gave my wife and I a chance to enjoy a before dinner drink.
I think we spent as much time cozying around the fireplace near the cat,,, (oh yes, I did have to pick up some toys at one point) as we did walking the many teacherous paths. Oh,, and I did practice my foreign languages with Mrs. Stauber, and the girls.
I have recommended Todiblick to a couple friends, (One an Eye Doctor couple) (One a Drugist and his wife) They thank me every time I see them.
On the morning of our departure Alex (The owner) was up at 5:00 Am to pack and give us our TAKE OUT BREAKFAST to be enjoyed on the train to the Airport.
As I said on my previous review,,,, BEST PLACE WE HAVE EVER STAYED. .

We went here on the strong recommendations of other TAers, but were, unfortunately, really disappointed. First of all, Braunwald is not really a "charming mountain village" but more like a collection of sprawled-out buildings on the side of a hill. It is more like depressed West Virginia mountain town. Okay, that might be exaggerating - the scenery is gorgeous, but there's *really* not much to do here. The village is really about 4 shops. Though it is "auto-free" there are small diesel powered vehicles around - which proved to be as much of a blessing as a curse. We arrived at night and thought we would walk to Todiblick. Good thing there was a taxi waiting for us on arrival - the walk would have been treacherous and exhausting. It is at least 1 km up winding narrow, icy roads - Todiblick isn't really "just up the hill" from the village but a significant distance from it. The hotel itself is not really anything great. One of the things I love about Switzerland is the simplicity in design. The exterior of the Todiblick fools you into thinking you are going to a Swiss mountain chalet. The interior, however, is straight out of suburban New Jersey in the late 1980's. Worn out couches, kids toys strewn about everywhere; ugly, brash lighting, low (7 foot, maybe) ceilings, industrial carpeting...the list goes on. The fishtank and strange gold-plated shell imprint ceiling lights were screaming chinese strip-mall restaurant. Our room, which was otherwise the bright spot in the decor department, with much original wood to speak of, had orange squigglies on the comforters and a photo of the mountain (otherwise visible outside the window) imbedded into one of the walls. Weird. To be fair, the hosts were quite accommodating and the food in the restaurant was really excellent. It took perhaps longer than I have ever waited in a restaurant for our food to be served - over an hour and a half, so at least we knew it was fresh, despite our grumblings. The biggest problem, however, was that we were a couple in search of a secluded, quiet mountain experience, and instead it felt like we happened upon Disneyworld in Switzerland. Kids were screaming, yelling and scampering around in the halls all night and then again at 7AM the following day. This may be advertised as a "family friendly" establishment, but let that be a warning to those without rugrats - in its being such it is definitely not "couples friendly." Since the walk is so long and dangerous in the dark, you are also essentially trapped in the place once arriving!

We also had really disappointing skiing at Braunwald. It is a small, charming ski area but its relatively low elevation killed it. We were skiing through dirt patches and rocks in what felt like mid-April in Early January. We could blame the weather but we spoke with others who were in nearby Flumserberg on the same day and had great conditions. The area is too low in elevation for marginal weather conditions. Unless its cold enough for snow in Zurich, avoid this place if you intend to ski!

Dear Mr. JuddS I really feel sorry that you had to experience such bad feelings about your stay in beautiful Braunwald. The village as well as our hotel seems not to have met your expectations, even if one as well as the other are quite specifically described in their respective sites as what they are: unpretentious, family (and therefore children) friendly refuges from everyday's life high up in the Swiss Alps. It's a great place for skiing with plenty of snow in spite of the sunny situation--if one cares to try the slopes available and recommended. It's a quiet, peaceful and romantic place, involving some hiking since it's carfree (though we sent a courtesy cab to meet you at the station and spare you the "perilous walk on treacherous roads" at your arrival--usually and during daytime this is our horses' job, but horses also like to get their rest at night). Maybe it would be wise if you didn't choose a family hotel in the mountains during a school holiday if you are looking for a luxurious rest; maybe St. Moritz would be the place to go under these circumstances. You might also get your dinner somewhat quicker than the 30 min. you had to wait, if not in the same home-cooked quality. And maybe your hotel will be fashioned in the required Alpenland kitsch instead of our handmade, genuine and honest design. As for myself, I might not choose New York for my holiday. But then, that's not the Big Apple's fault nor its hotels. Enjoy your trips, and your holidays, and choose wisely what suits your taste, and what doesn't. But please remember: It's your opinion only, and not everybody might share your taste for luxury, nor your diskile of "rugrats". Cordially Alexander Stuber, manager and owner of Alexander's Tödiblick
