I gave a 5 because of the care and attention to detail in design, construction, service, food and even location. The restaurant was outstanding. we ate there two nights in a row and could not have been more pleased. the highlights were the ceviche de gambas con hielo de cilantro and also the escabiche de perdiz. i struggle to describe...

We stayed as a family of four for a few nights in October. The hotel is beautifully designed, the staff are friendly, the food is fantastic, and the location is breathtaking. The quadruple room worked brilliantly for us and our children (7 and 4). We loved the little beach bar outside and the calm, tranquil location of the hotel -...

We stayed here three nights with a group as part of a trip along the Costa Brava. With a beach on the Mediterraean, the location was beautiful, breakfast overlooking the sea every morning. Our room was lovely but not one of the beachfront ones. The staff was helpful. We were out during the days. Dinner one evening in the hotel...

Hotel sits on the water. We had a Sea View room, so we watched the sun rise out of the Mediterranean. We had a queen with 1 window. Our friends had a king with 2 windows. Room was compact but adequate. Buffet breakfast was good. Front desk was helpful arranging tickets to Dali house. Nice common areas, including a library...

We have stayed many times at this superbly located hotel on the sea front near to the renowned Greek/Roman ruins at Empuries; location, location, location - but underperformance persuades us never to return. I have complained after previous visits that the small bathrooms in this former staff 'hostel' are designed to irritate me! The firmly fitted glss screen to the...

We came just for the night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Off to a bad start when I found that I has booked a room with a sea view but not a terrace. I had used nooking.com and the photos were of rooms with a terrace. Also I know the hotel. The room was changed for a "spa room", which...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Legacy Hostal Empuries stands on an ancient settlement, beside the Greek and Roman ruins of Empuries, whose beauty and tranquility attracted the Iberians as much as the Greek seafarers and the first Romans who settled the Iberian Peninsula. Moreover this is the place from which the mythic country of Emporda took its name. This privileged location is the actual cradle of our culture and the only Greek and Roman archaeological site in the whole peninsula. Consequently, to protect and enrich this legacy is one of the main objectives of the Hostal. The History The original construction of Hostal Empuries appeared in 1907, under the name of Villa Teresita, with the idea of giving lodgings to the first archaeologists, who directed by Puig i Cadafalch, set out on the job of excavating and restoring the Greek and Roman remains. From these historic beginnings the Hostal changed at the start of the 20C and became the precursor to touristic lodgings in the area, even before the use of the term Costa Brava. Years ago there was a change of management in the Hostal which undertook to finish extensive reforms with the idea that activities should flourish throughout the entire year and that the badly run-down site would be restored. With the same pioneering spirit of the ancients and the ability to responsibly and sensitively modify this magical spot, alongside the exacting requirements of the modern tourist, the Hostal is really striving to transform itself into a new reference point, a new model of tourism under the name of Sustainable Tourism, founded on social and ecological responsibility. The spirit The new Hostal Empuries is a project based on the idea of improving the world in which we live and share so that future generations might also enjoy themselves. We would like to become the best Hostal for our world... for a world where we all belong and for the Earth that surrounds us. Accordingly, we take our responsibility for managing this site very seriously and we endevour to serve all those who come to enjoy this encounter with nature and history of which we proudly form a part. ... more   less
