What a surprise. Looks like nothing from the front, but surprises with space, light and interest after going through the entrance. Some truly lovely touches that set this place aside from the norm. (Helped I'm sure by being privately owned and run) Good size room. Ample bathroom. Great bed. Breakfast was different, but that's due to the virus restrictions. Good quality tho and good service staff. Fabulous location to access both sides of the Douro. Great for walking, eating, visiting the port houses. Recommend to anyone looking for a little different in the heart of Porto. Would definitely go back.
Our Covid impacted "on/off"trip to Porto being finally back on again we booked this establishment very much at the last minute and were very pleased with our choice. The location is excellent, only a minute or so to walk to the south bank of the river down a narrow and characterful street. The property itself is very deceptive. Charmingly unprepossessing, narrow and vernacular from the outside , step inside to a very well modernized older building over several floors (lifts provided for those who cannot manage stairs) at the front with a brand new extension to the rear, combining successfully and retaining some beautiful old stonework. Quiet and relaxed, private rear yard provides a pleasant sitting out area and good spot for al fresco breakfast from the very good offer provided. Clean and well presented, air conditioned rooms with towels, toiletries, water, coffee machine , safe, ample storage, decent lighting, comfy beds, good ensuite facilities, many with balconies providing lovely views. Absolutely excellent, friendly, helpful, welcoming staff, our room being ready even though our flight had us arrive rather early.. Left luggage facility. Nice birthday touch for a cynical old man like me. Absolutely no hesitation in saying we will certainly be back if fortunate enough to return to Porto.…
We bboked last September to visit Porto the weekend of my 70th birthday and chose the Caleway hotel to stay in,what an excellent choice it turned out to be.The weekend we arrived was the start of lockdown in Portugal,so unfortunately we did'nt get to see all we hoped to,but the hotel and staff made up for that. The rooms are spacious, airy, spotlessly clean with large comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of choice. The hotel itself is beautiful, from the small entrance on the street ,you would not expect the vastness that lies behind it.It has been very tastefully renovated..The staff were kind ,chatty and very helpful(thank you Pedrofor my introduction to port). When this crisis is over we intend to return, and so want to stay here again.FABULOUS.
This is a very pleasant place to stay. It is newly constructed and completely deceptive from the outside, it looks tiny but is much larger at the rear. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was particularly friendly for English people. I think they could have been more generous with things like water and coffee capsules in the rooms. It is well located on the South side of the Douro.
New Questionable Hotel Located in Gaia Area, right next to the Douro River. There were a lot of building works going on in this area so it is noisy during the day. My Pros and Cons as follow Pros 1. Professional friendly staff 2. Brand New hotel with new facilities 3. Easy access to the restaurants and bars 4. Very near to those infamous wine cellars if you are into wines. Cons 1. Cleanness of the room. As you can see from the pictures there were dusts under the bed. They never cleaned once during our stay. 2. It does not matter if you stay for 1 night or 2 weeks. Only 1 bottle of water and 3 coffee cartridges were given. Any Additional water and coffee cartridges you have to pay for 3. Unfinished works were every where. The pictures you see on the website that hotel shows, there were there Great, but there were a lot of unfinished areas which were not shown on the website 4. Work notice in advance. They were doing some works on the roof but the hotel never informed us to be aware of. The soil was everywhere. I find it a bit strange that hotel did not inform the guests in advance. 5. Rather too simple breakfast. Do not expect fresh orange juice. It was very basic. You will get bored after 3 days. Final verdict You would be a lot better off to book somewhere else. There are a ton of better hotels in Porto. Do not be fooled by those amazing reviews. As a brand new hotel I think they lacked of providing simple service and environment for the guests. They have a lot to improve. …
