This is a place that tries to be many things but fails dismally at most of them. The front gate which is so narrow that 'paint will be scrapped'. Parking inside is a nightmare. Walking up multiple flights of narrow staircases, with no elevators and no porters. Rooms done out in 1960's bad taste art deco. Ancient plumbing. Communal breakfast table in a stuffy dining room. It is obvious that this is an old family mansion trying to make ends meet but offers very little to travellers.
We had to rooms,it was clean and the rooms are large. the vila is a short walk to bars and restaurants. the pool is nice and refreshing. Breakfast was top class and they will do anything if you ask them.
We were looking for a place to stay at Luso and found Vila Aurora. On the outside it's a beautiful palace, but you can already see that their gardens and swimming pools have been neglected and need urgent care. We needed to call a number of a local hotel to be able to get someone to show us the house. Inside it is beautifully decorated, all in to the XIX style. But once again you can see that the house is in urgent need of TLC!! The rooms were ok, we had a family room. They were clean, but...more needs to be done, again! During the afternoon we went for a walk in the Mata do Buçaco and returned after 9pm to the house, there was not a single light in the garden. There is WiFi in the lounge. Breakfast is at the hotel, apparently they are running the house as the owner isn't too well. It's such a shame as it is located in an amazing place and the house it self is just beautiful.…
We reserved two rooms---one for my husband and me and one for our two teenage daughters. Although the rooms were the same price our room was nice and our daughters was a dismal, stuffy attic room with no windows. The swimming pool is pretty but seemed dirty. The grounds are very pretty and the place is interesting and much more charming than a modern hotel
Lovely old villa with antiques and family photos all over. we are a family of 5 so were put in the attic room. . Spacious room with a big bathroom albeit decorated in teh 1980s complete with turquoise bath set and floral tiles. The shower has to hand held and aimed carefully bit its all part of the charm. The room is dark as the only window is tiny but it didn't matter as the a/c is good and quiet and we were out most of the time. There is a lovely small pool at the back and the breakfast is a preset self serve of cheese, meats, breads, yoghurt cereal, set out on a wonderful dining roonm table in a lovely dining room - you feel like royalty. The staff were charming, we speak no Portugese and they no English but we managed very well and they were incredibly friendly. Lovely old world spot that matches the lovely old world town.…
