This hotel was a seventeenth century Carmelite monastery built with gardens that represent Mount Carmel. It is in the middle of the Bussaco forest. It was impressive to look at and great to roam the corridors, galleries and vast rooms and... it was very, very expensive, and the food achieved total awfulness. We used to drive to town, some 30...

My wife and I stayed at the Bussaco Palace Hotel in February 2017 for one night and we couldn't wait to leave in the morning! Yes the grounds and the Palace are beautiful and worth a day trip to see (note: you will be charged 5 euro to enter the grounds by a grumpy guard if you do not have...

My wife and I have stayed here several times before over the last 30 years or so and always loved it. There can be no doubt that it is a real privilege to be able to spend a few days in this ethereal place (because the natural surroundings are like something from a fairy tale) and in this magical hotel....

This hotel is a magic place. I could not stay for more than one night, but it was a magnificent experience, un the style of the grand old European hotels. Perhaps it is not in perfect shape and only shows part of its past grandeur. But service was excellent, the staff was courteous and the venue is peerless. Be careful...

It's incredible how such an incredible place, in real life enchanted forest can became such a nightmare!!! This "so called" 5 Star hotel is so awful, that we checked out from a pre-paid 2 night "honeymoon". We literally stayed there for 1 hour. A VERY DIRTY room, cracks and mould in the walls, dirty crevices all over, HEAVILY stained carpets...

We stayed here our first night off the plane in Portugal with our two college kids, who were on spring break. What a beautiful place --- and it was so relaxing to recover from jet lag while walking around the palace grounds. The dining room is especially lovely, and the breakfast buffet was great. And for the price of about...

This is a five star hotel that can sometimes be booked for less than $100 a day. It is far from the beaten path, definitely not a business hotel, nor one to bring the kids. It was built in the 19th century and is extremely ornate and fancy. Food is good. Lovely gardens. Huge displays of famous blue and white...

I was intrigued by the gardens and overall description of this place. Overall a very good experience. I really wanted to love this place but it is a mixed bag. Overall a unique stay. As noted in other reviews, the rooms are in need of updating. The construction of the structure and common areas are awesome, and the grounds along...

First of all, you have the possibility to stay in an actual palace. How cool is that! It is a beautiful building, the tilework inside is amazing, and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. You aren't allowed inside unless you are a hotel guest, so staying at the hotel is your only opportunity to wander these historic halls. The food is...

We stayed here 29 years ago on our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with the enchanting palace and grounds. We had one of the most memorable meals on the terrace and then walked the grounds. We came upon it by accident and decided to stay. We got the very last room for that night in July 1987. From all...
