Detailed Reviews
I don’t think that we could have had a better holiday at the AWA if we tried. From start to finish the staff were amazing and made us feel so welcome. We have been to Thailand a few times previously but this time we came with our 11 month old baby Teddy. We were a little nervous as we didn’t know what it would be like travelling that distance with a baby or how things would be at the hotel but we really cannot thank the staff enough for making our holiday so seamless and enjoyable. Everyone went above and beyond to make us welcome and they were all brilliant with Teddy.
The hotel itself was beautiful and the room was very spacious and perfect for our 9 nights. The location of the Awa was great and everything we needed was there. We normally rent a motorbike and travel the island everyday but this time we stayed in Kai Bae everyday apart from one lunch and we loved it.
One point I loved was that The Awa has an area on the sand where you can have massages, these are very reasonably priced and surprisingly the same price as the shops on the streets but with a much more beautiful setting (which really is breathtaking). The massage ladies were brilliant and I ended up having a massage everyday! The ladies were also fantastic with Teddy and played with him constantly.
We treated ourselves to cocktails daily which were made perfectly and the restaurant staff were so lovely and interacted with Teddy and he loved being picked up and carried by them all.
We had cocktails on the beach every night and listened to the live bands (there were two different duos that played throughout our stay) and their singing was fantastic. Again, they were so lovely and we loved speaking to them and watching them play every night.
We made a note of a few people that really went above and beyond and we cannot thank them enough for making our holiday one to really remember; Heng, Ae, Tula Jan, Jann & Payu we’d like to thank you all, you made everything so easy for us and put a smile on our face everyday. You all work so hard and the hotel is so lucky to have you. Thank you of course to all of the other staff who were lovely. We forgot to take note but all of the ladies on reception were so welcoming too. We are sad to leave Koh Chang and are already looking forward to returning to the AWA and have not got a single bad word to say.

Two nights staying here was impressed. All staffs are very welcome and eager to serve us with cheerful mind. The rewards was given to public decorations and a very wide and fantastic pool. There was no private hotel beach, a bit walk from hotel rocky coast was not too hard.
There were just some great room locations with an pool and sea views. Very clean room with full function of amenities and spaces.
Complimentary dinner packages for two was very delicious. But morning breakfast is not what I had expected. Because of a very low price packages during Covid-19 some of high-cost ingredients were removed. Staff don't know Egg benedict even it was just written at egg station. I've got boiled egg instead which one of your staff insist that it was an egg benedict.
Plates, table fork and knives were wet. A wet water stains was clearly observed since I just picked them up.
Most of the outside restaurant and places were closed. Not much activities to do but still a very great vacation time here. May return again.

The hotel enjoys a prime location in the heart of Koh Chang's western coastline, offering convenient access to all amenities such as shops, massage parlors, restaurants, and markets within walking distance. The breakfast options include a diverse selection of Thai and European dishes. Although there isn't a natural sandy beach, ample sunbeds are available in the designated beach area for relaxation.

We planned to stay for 5 nights but after the first night there was no way we would stay the remaining days.
The photos you find online of this place do not reflect reality. Even though the general design of the hotel is quite interesting, the quality is not up to standard of similar 4 star hotels.
Main concerns are:
- cleanliness (mold in the room and the public areas, spiderwebs on the ceilings of the restaurant area, stains on the bed sheets, towels and sofa cushions, a horrible smell from the bathroom)
- maintenance (the air condition is very noisy with irregular increase of the noise => difficult to sleep, the light in the bathroom is heavily dimmed probably to mask the poor quality, there is no hot water in the shower can be called warm at best)
- connectivity (if you don‘t have a local SIM card and rely on the WiFi you are out of luck, the WiFi is very unstable)
Do not recommend this Hotel. We planned to stay for 5 nights but after the first night there was no way we would stay the remaining days.

Came here several years ago when it was new at that time the hotel was very nice. Now a few years later what a change.
Really poorly Maintained, rooms are extremely dark and dated. Pool areas are in need of some serious maintenance
Quite possibly a declining bad option for a mid to high price hotel in Koh Chang. Would not recommend

My wife and I decided to go to Koh Chang for our 9-year anniversary. Since it was our first time to the island, we decided to book at several hotels there and one of them was AWA Koh Chang. This hotel came with great reviews and we were not disappointed. In fact, we should have stayed here for our entire trip because it was by far the best hotel experience. I called in to mention that it was our anniversary and they made sure that we were comfortable. Small touches such as decorating the room before we arrived are the things that make your trip memorable. We requested a high floor and had a nice view from our Deluxe room (see pictures).
Lower floors have better access to the pool but less privacy. The buildings surround the pool, so noises can echo loudly even if you are on a high floor. I would get a beachfront deluxe room for less noise from the pool or the hillside room (located across the road fyi) for a quieter experience. The bathroom is spacious but could have much more lighting. Breakfast was fine. The bed was very soft and comfortable and the lounging area in the balcony was relaxing. You can find many restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance. Bear in mind that this is a small hotel with a tiny beach front area but other beaches are also within walking distance. You can also check out their two other sister resorts on the island if you are looking for something else. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Thank you to Khun Warakorn (Toei) and the front office manager Beer for making our trip wonderful. If I ever come back to this island, my wife and I will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is a real gem. We went in rainy season so the rates were very good. The breakfast buffet is varied and of good quality, and the rooms are huge.
Pool is also very good.
The hotel itself is not on the beach, but you can get there in 10 minutes by walking.
Local restaurants are good value and closeby.
Note there is no gym, and the hotel only offers one bottle of drinking water a day. A water dispenser would be of benefit for guests.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would return.
The rooms are very large and bright during the day for us a little dark in the evenings but this is typical of hotels in Thailand. The girl who cleaned our room was lovely and cleaned very well in what can’t be an easy job in the heat.
The look of the hotel is very impressive however design seems to have more importance than being practical the breakfast area takes over a large area but the breakfast buffet area is so close together that you constantly had to move for other people especially the egg station were it was very congested at times with a little thought this area could have been more customer friendly with easier flow of people. But this is just an opinion.
We had been in the hotel a few days and felt the team mat breakfast seemed to lack any organisation . Friendly and polite but tables not cleared then the arrival of Mr T the new food and beverage manager and wham in a quiet manner he seemed to get the staff to pull together he himself always busy clearing tables checking if we wanted anything so it was a pleasure to watch him transform the staff into happier people I hope Mr T stays he is indeed an asset. We also found CHHay Rong a most delightful and well spoken young man who worked hard with initiative to get on with the job , he spoke very good English and always checked that we were ok.
We stayed in this hotel for 9 days and it might seem trivial but the toaster never worked even if you put the bread back several times it just came out warm not toast management please get this fixed this area in a morning was always full of western guests saying here we go again forming a large queue for what should be a simple task.
Our room was a front facing sea view and what a view, magnificent watching the sunset and just to laze away a little time we had room 630 on the third floor a lovely room which had sea and pool views, but this hotel does attract a lot of families and sometimes the shouting and screaming from the pool drove us nuts. I understand people are on holiday but for us this was a real downside to the hotel. They did offer to move us but of course you have to wait until another room is available so it would have been a wasted day of our holiday and probably only slightly less noisy so we decided not to move but staff did all they could to help.
Would we return to this hotel yes but we would ask for a quieter room before check in.
The location of the awa couldn’t be better lots of bars and restaurants right outside.
A new bar red monkey directly opposite gajapuri resort was our favourite stop off point.
