A GARDEN PARADISE BY THE SEA Concealed amid 25 hillside acres of lush rainforest habitat, and flowing around the contours of a small and secluded private bay, Sylvan is an enchanting hideaway possessing all the qualities that Koh Chang Island has up its sleeve. Take in the sunset from the island’s highest lookout. Peer through your snorkel mask down into a coral reef where fish play. Kayak to a small island just offshore – or take a stroll out during low tide. Wherever you wander, you’ll find opportunities to relax and reflect – whether stretched out by the pool with the sea and skyline spreading out before you, or immersed in an authentic Thai healing ritual or the Vitality Pool at the award-winning Rainforest Spa. Trace a footpath through the lush, lightly landscaped gardens, around water features and into tranquil nooks and shady corners. Indulge in casual, gourmet dining by the sea or simply stretch out in a sun lounger on the resort’s private, sandy beach. Everywhere, you’ll enjoy the magic spell that is nature’s embrace.

If you enjoy amazing hospitality, if you are a fan of incredible views, if you like being hosted in fantastic rooms overseeing the beach and outerlying islands. This is the resort for you in Koh Chang.
I had no expectations coming to Koh Chang as my friend kindly organised the trip and I was absolutely blown away at the quality of Sylvan.
As someone who has worked in hospitality, it was clear to me that the owners and operators of Sylvan care deeply about extracting the maximum value of the beautiful surrounding nature for the best possible customer experience.
From the quality of food, the cleanliness and hygiene of their amenities, their consistent reinvestment into upkeep and improvement of their facilities, and last but not least the standard of care their staff show - all I can say is you won’t regret choosing Sylvan as the place to spend your time in Koh Chang (maybe even Thailand)
Sylvan team Tank you for memories that will be cherished!

Quite impressed when visit, the lobby has an ornate decoration. All the staffs are nice.
The room is spacious, spotless, and functional.
What I found outstanding the most is the bathroom, there is an automatic WASHLET toilet, the ventilation fan is doing its best.
Tap and shower are working perfectly, neither too hot nor too cold.
No pest or mosquito at night.
Breakfast and restaurant is on another level, it is tasty with quality ingredients, swift service and cooking time.
The view on breakfast room is out of this world.

A beautiful hotel!!!
We were on Koh Chang for the first time and were delighted with our choice to stay at the Sylvan.
The hotel is probably older (it used to be called "Sea View Resort"), and consists of several buildings built on a hillside in a jungle-like, very well-kept environment. The various parts of the hotel, which are obviously currently being gradually modernized/renovated, can be reached on foot, with one of the golf carts or with a cable car (very original!), depending on the location.
We had a pool villa above the beach, by far the most beautiful we have ever had anywhere, an architectural highlight, tastefully designed, beautifully furnished and decorated and furnished with the works of Thai artists. The sophisticated circulation of the pool water (you have to see it!) is also unique. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is great, the minibar is well stocked, the pool is really big. All light switches are marked and, like the plentiful sockets, are in the right places. You don't find that often.
The hotel spa is also elegant, has beautiful rooms with the most comfortable massage tables we have ever had, and offers good treatments at reasonable prices.
The breakfast is very varied, could be presented more attractively, but nothing is missing. There is even fresh, delicious Khanom Krok, which you have to walk miles for in Bangkok.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. Sometimes there are communication problems, but ultimately every wish was fulfilled and every problem solved.
We had a great time at the Sylvan and will definitely be back soon.

The place is absolutely amazing. We loved every second of our stay here to a point we extended an additional night. The resort is just beautiful, built in the middle of the jungle with an amazing sea view / beachfront. Everything was perfect until our last morning in the hotel, we went to the breakfast buffet and my husband got some waffles (as he always does), while eating he found a small nail/screw inside the waffles!!! We immediately reported the incident to the restaurant manager and to the guys working in the reception desk. And apparently the only compensation the hotel was willing to do is offer us 50% discount on our 1,000 THB bill on room service!!!! Very disappointed wil the management’s reaction. If it wasn’t for this incident I would’ve gave the hotel a full rating, but I think things like this should mean much more and is actually a big deal.

I stayed at the resort for a long weekend, taking a break from the city. Perfect getaway in a lush tropical environment. View from the room is stunning overlooking the tropical forest, ocean and a few islands. I could even spot hornbills during the morning hours as well as rare leaf monkeys in the evening. The property is quite large, if you don't like to walk they provide buggy service. The gardens are beautifully designed. And the Spa on the property is brand new and unique located directly at the small river.

Such a disappointing stay. We booked a Pool Villa Suite for 4 nights in November. The suite itself is beautiful, exactly like the photos and is easily one of the nicest suites we have ever stayed in.
However, the suite and private pool were completely unusable between 8am and 5pm due to the hotel construction taking place. This included consistent and persistent loud drilling. Directly in front of the suite. We cut short our stay due to this and were refunded the spare nights (and given free spa treatments to occupy time away from the villa).
For a hotel to offer a premium product, but to not advise customers of disruption (or the closure of the beachfront restaurant) is not acceptable. The least I would expect is a message prior to check in, or indeed at check in, so that we could explore other options. Instead, we had to waste half a day investigating and making other plans.
This is a hotel of two halves. The 80s part of the development which is run down and dated, which includes the restaurant and (distinctly average) food options, then the more modern rooms nearer the beach. It looks like there is an ongoing modernisation program, but there is no mention of this, or the risks, when booking.
When the hotel renovations are complete, this will be a lovely spot to spend your vacation. In the meantime, buyer beware.

Dear NoMosquitosPlease, Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at SYLVAN Koh Chang. It's unfortunate that the restaurant renovation works disrupted your stay with us. Your feedback highlights the importance of communication between the resort and guests. We believe your reservation came through a couple of days before we placed notices on all websites and emails to all our partner agents and we are sorry we missed emailing you to inform you about the renovation works. It's positive to note that somewhat addressed your concerns by refunding the remaining nights and offered complimentary spa treatments as a token of our apologies. Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. If there's anything specific you would like to convey or if you have additional details you'd like to share, feel free to let me know. We hope we have the chance to welcome you back again in the future. Best Regards, Tom Executive Assistant Manager

Exquisite location with splendid views over the sea and small islands and acres of the rain forest covered hill side of the hotel property.
The large private beach is one of the few on the Koh Chang that remains large at high tide and with the beautiful landscape and the hotel facilities well spread over the huge grounds it never feels crowded with people but secluded and quiet and blends naturally into the lush nature.
Rooms are modern and very large with outstanding views from the oversized balconies with either choice of close to the beach or up on the hill with the amazing views access via the (very slow) cable car.
Facilities like the landscaped pool, the prize winning Spa and well equipped Technogym are absolutely as good or better than could be expected.
As fortunately so often in Thailand the service is ever so friendly and furthermore a notch above the usual and always fast response.
Unfortunately the lunch and dinner restaurant is more like a cafeteria with lack of ambience compared to the rest of the beautiful hotel and with a limited choice of food which is somewhat inconsistent in quality. Good thing is that town is only 5 mins away.
If you are a light sleeper the rooms just below the breakfast restaurant may not be for you however the top view makes up for it.
In short - after having seen other hotels on the island we definitely felt we had made the best choice to stay at Sylvan.

I tend to book directly with hotels and not through 3rd parties, even paying more. The reason being that properties tend to respond better to pre arrival requests. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here. I requested for a quiet, high floor corner room with no connecting door. I was given a mid floor room with a connecting door, sandwiched between 2 rather lively (to say the least) China families, and another on top. I find it rather strange that hotels do not bother about requests.
The hotel itself is beautifully located at a hill facing the sea. I was housed at the upper part of the hotel; golf carts were provided for the steep climb to theropod of the property. The cable car was not working throughout my stay. The lower part of the property seems to hade undergone renovation recently and looked stunning. That cannot be said about the upper part of the property where the outdoor area is in dire need of renovation. Most of the wooden deckchairs and tables are rotting away. A storm pushed a lot of dirt, small pebbles and soil into the pool, which was still there 24h later. The rooms are large, but with a tacky synthetic leather sofa which does not fit the otherwise nice Thai style deco. There is a showercubicle oddly positioned outside the bathroom. There was only one power plug next to the water cattle, but nothing inside the bedroom. The breakfast room is clearly to small when the hotel runs at capacity. There was a queue at peak hour at 9. Breakfast was decent; although stressful because of the crowding.
I would say that this hotel is an ok 4* property, but certainly not 5.

Responded 25 July 2024
Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback about your recent stay. We genuinely appreciate your comments as they help us identify areas where we can improve. I am truly sorry to hear that your pre-arrival requests were not met, resulting in a less than satisfactory room assignment. Due to the hotel being mostly booked during your stay, we were unable to accommodate your specific room request. We did try our best to arrange the rooms accordingly. For future visits, we recommend staying in our Reserve Beachfront room type, which offers more privacy and does not have connecting doors, unlike our Deluxe or Grand Deluxe rooms. I appreciate your positive remarks about our hotel's beautiful location. However, I regret that the upper part of the property, including the outdoor areas and the pool, did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the condition of the deck chairs, tables, and the storm debris in the pool have been noted and will be addressed promptly. Unfortunately, our cable car was struck by lightning recently and is currently under repair. We are doing our best to accommodate our guests with buggies to ensure their convenience. We acknowledge that the breakfast room can become crowded during peak hours and we are exploring ways to improve this experience for our guests. We strive to provide a 5-star experience for all our guests and it's clear from your feedback that we have areas that need improvement. Thank you again for your constructive criticism. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a superior experience.
