This hotel is extremely peaceful and yet so close to some great restaurants and other services such as tours, laundry and shopping. Coffee and shake stores are steps away from the gate. The site is mainly boardwalk with some ponds and a grassy area for sun loungers. The pools are lovely; the family side has a jacuzzi pool too. The adult only infinity pool is beautiful with views out to the islands. The breakfast is very personal and of high quality with homemade provisions. All staff are helpful but discreet. We rate the ambience if you’re a peace lover. The beds were wide and comfortable and the fan and air conditioning were efficient. The room is large with loungers on the decking if you need them. There is a QR code to scan to request things from reception which we didn’t use. However, we would have appreciated tea and coffee supplies in the room; house coffee packets are available in the reception but with no obvious means of how to use these we were perplexed. We enjoyed the sign about the Calabas tree and its fruit; the hotel could signpost guests to more trees and flowers on site. There are several welcome drink was lovely and we enjoyed its origin story. The provision of water in the room is plentiful; glass bottles were used. There was no hair conditioner. The hairdryers are fixed to the wall and dated. The cleaning staff were thorough and excellent; bed linen is changed every 4 days. There are several libraries for book exchanges on the site; the bar and decking for lunch is a pleasant area. The hotel doesn’t offer massage services; we presume this is because of the salons on the street. However, beach site, outdoor massages provide a different experience to indoor busy salons. This was disappointing. We didn’t eat dinner here; there is a rooftop sunset drinks area but the hotel is having to compete with a busy town with lots on offer. They offer special nights on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday. These are not well marketed. We would stay again and are rebooking but we would advise combining this stay with another hotel on a better beach to get a true island experience.
The beach is non existent and the edge of the property drops away unevenly into the water. At certain times you can walk to the guest houses north. Very few guests swam in the sea; the hotel warned of sea urchins. It would be helpful to have wooden steps for easier access.

A hotel that's fine. The staff is very helpful and always at your disposal. Breakfast is complete considering it is a 4-star hotel. They have homemade products and serve eggs cooked on request, or waffles among others. Common areas may require some maintenance. The room I booked was with a pool. Traditional style and with a bit of design given to it, it could be of a higher level. The size very good, spacious and bright. The bathroom very complete and very spacious. The pool De la Villa, the water at a lower temperature than the beach, with the best on the beach. Although the beach had quite a few stones. Comfort and silence to sleep even with the proximity of a street with reasonable night activity. The feeling is that this hotel, with a little design in the rooms and maintenance of the common outdoor floorboards, could be a superior hotel. The location is very good, in a street with atmosphere, not excessive, where you can dine, eat or buy gifts or hire excursions or change money.

When we arrived at the resort around 12.30pm we were immediately provided with our bungalow directly on the sea and pool, although the check in was only at 2pm. We loved the bungalow with two large front windows toal as the view of the sea was fantastic. Also the large pool right next door impressed us. We can only praise the staff in the greatest tones. Our TV unfortunately did not work, this was fixed by the service staff (5 people) immediately. Breakfast was also really delicious, for me even extra cocoa was made and brought to the table.
Bathing on the beach directly at the hotel is hardly possible as everything is full of large stones. But there is a stretch of beach a few meters away which was also suitable for swimming.
In front of the resort there are some shops, as well as many restaurants.
We can recommend this resort.

We were very impressed by the resort and staff. We were early for check in- the room wasn’t ready, but we were given pool towels straight away and the receptionist came to find us as soon as the room was ready. Pool areas were lovely, large and quiet. Breakfast was nice, decent selection of food, coffee machine, tea bags to help yourself. Egg menu available and every day there was another hot option being cooked e.g. waffles, pancakes. We had a fairly standard room, large bathroom with walk in shower. Not luxurious but perfectly adequate and comfortable. Good air con, safe, beach towels provided daily. We used booking.com and for the price (around £50 per night) we felt it was amazing value. Finally - the surrounding area has some great restaurants and I used the Spa at Chill (next door) which was lovely

We have stayed here wonderfully relaxed. We had booked a villa with private pool. Delicious! Although the pool is too small to really swim in which I thought was a shame, it was lovely to cool off in or stay with your air mattress. The cottage was nicely decorated, the bed very well and the air conditioning also functioned very well. The cottages with private pool were screened with a fence allowing a lot of privacy. The resort has all wooden houses that are on risers, looks nice. There is an outdoor restaurant that we only used for breakfast but where you can also have lunch and dinner. Breakfast was not very extensive for a four star hotel. Freshly baked bread, but no sandwiches, croissants etc and very limited choice in toppings. But yogurt and fresh fruit and you could have waffles freshly prepared. Also Thai choices but I don't like hot food for breakfast so that has to appeal to you. However, an egg dish was prepared every morning as desired. Despite the limited choice in breakfast I had a great breakfast and would not stop me from going again. There is also a sunset bar, but it is only open for a very short time per day. That's a missed opportunity. The resort is located by the sea and there are sunbathing areas with sunbeds. The sea itself was poorly accessible. A very thin strip of beach a meter lower than the sunbathing lawn and where you can't just go down to walk into the sea if you're less able to walk. Beach walks from the hotel are therefore not possible. I would have liked to know this before we booked. There are two large swimming pools, one for adults only. The lie of the resort is central to Kai bae Beach and was perfect. It is located on the busy street with restaurants, shops, bars and massage parlours, but you didn't notice anything in the resort. Despite the mentioned downsides, we would definitely come back here when staying on Ko Chang.

The setting isn’t as per the photos, which lead you to believe that you are set back in tranquil jungle. You are not! Behind the hotel is the busy strip of Kai Bae … but that suited us as it was good to be close to the restaurants (the ones we went to were all great). The hotel is sympathetically built with wooden rooms and bungalows scattered around, and the rooms were well equipped and clean. The two swimming pools were fantastic. Breakfast was just ok (but you had to pay for the Thai breakfast) and none of the food was covered, hence little flies hovering around. The staff were pleasant but apart from at meal times, they were pretty absent. The hotel was very quiet and lacked a bit of life but that may suit some. Lunch was ok and I don’t believe they serve dinner. However the local restaurants are in abundant and great. There is no beach at the hotel (apart from a very slim strip when the tide went out) so that might disappoint some.

The rooms are pretty good. You have to be objective. The bedding is very good. On the other hand it’s expensive even for a European it’s expensive . not tested the restaurant we already eat far too European outside so, I imagine inside. Average service no explanation on room Location bof there is more beach because of rising water. If you like the side of being woken up by kids, ill-behaved from 7am, but anyway it’s the same everywhere. Not believing in Thailand here is Like phuket krabi samui ...

I just came back from a wonderful stay at Gajapuri Resort & Spa. The fact of the hotel has a private beach does not get enough credit. It was a very relaxing stay at the hotel and I love the wooden walkaway, it was surreal.
The staff were friendly and on point and met our needs and requests. They always have a smile on their face. The breakfast was delicious and is always greeted by a friendly staff.
The facilities of the room were wonderful, and big. I really enjoyed the romantic walkaways.
The only thing that they can improve on is their cleanliness in the room, we were met with spider webs above the head boards and the dirty water should have been checked before we checked in. But it was quickly rectified by the staff.
I like the feel of the romantic lighting in the room, but I wish it could have been a little bit more brighter or have an open sky light on the roof of the hut, that would make the whole stay even more wonderful.
We really have enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you Gajapuri!

Tastefully discerning resort that encourages personal space
“This review was written just after the easing of travel restrictions. At this time, very few people were travelling and hotels working with skeleton staff and reduced facilities”.
The choice of hotels on Koh Chang is vast with an eclectic range from luxury, classic elegance, to modern conceptual to traditional and everything in between. Making a choice is quite a challenge and should be based on your requirements.
We came upon the Gaja Puri almost by accident and was pleased that fate had guided us here. Sometimes one tires of elegance, luxury or stark conceptual design and looks for a resort where the design has been made to suit the guest rather than fill the annals of Instagram. The Gaja Puri is refined, low key, relaxed, comfortable and a wonderful place to stay on Koh Chang island.
The Reception area is modest and the welcome friendly. The resort consists of individual, single story villas that are scattered around the resort. These are connected by wooden walkways leading towards the impressive swimming pool and sandy beach.
We stayed in a Superior Room which was in effect a private wooden house fully equipped with an enormous double bed, desk, smart tv, A/C, ceiling fan, tea/coffee facilities and more. The bathroom was large and again fully equipped. We have a private terrace with 2 sun beds and an umbrella. It represents classic comfort with space, lots of character and comfort.
The focal part of the resort is the large infinity pool looking out to the beach. The pool is beautiful with plenty of sun beds for use. There is a large grass area that then leads to the sandy beach. The beach is not the biggest, but it is white sand with palm trees and everything that you expect on a tropical island!
The Beach Restaurant is sweet and intimate with a lovely terrace on the beach.
At the time of our stay we were the only guests which was an amazing privilege as we had the entire resort to ourselves. It provided us an opportunity to explore all the areas and one can see that there is a comprehensive choice of room style to suit individual requirements.
The resort is located in the middle of the West Coast on Kai Bae Beach. Just outside the resort gardens are a range of bars and restaurants including the amazing Fig Café. An ideal resort that offers comfort, quality and tradition, even with other guests, I would enjoy staying here again!

A nice and stylish resort with two great pools just like on the pictures. Nicely decorated and spacious rooms. When we were there, mid November, not too many people and really quite. We could borrow kayaks free of charge which we did twice. GajaPuri had its own little beach and a rather large green area. A nice an airy breakfast section too. Although I missed the thai food breakfast. The good things was to have one pool reserved for adults and one for children.

Dear Chris
Very sorry for late replay
The beach is long but not wide. still good for strolling along.
There are not too many bars at the beach but in the nearby small village (Kai Bae) are plenty.
Kindly check rules for entering Thailand before travelling. If there is still a 15 days Quarantine, it would not make to plan a short visit.
Best regards
Hans, GM
