Beautiful two bedroom, two story townhouse centrally located at the Massanutten Resort. Jacuzzi and sauna included in the first floor bathroom. Well appointed kitchen, washer and dryer in unit. Lovely living room/dining room with flat screen TV, DVD player, fireplace, and walk-out deck.

Go to Mountainside Villas at Massanutten. Easy check in with lovely employees. Large units, quiet, beautiful setting. Wonderful. We saw deer and groundhogs. Located in the Shenandoah valley with easy access to Charlottesville, Harrisonburg.

Mountainside Villas are a nice accommodation, but Massanutten charges a resort fee for common recreation facilities (pool, gym & game rooms) regardless of whether you use them. Sneaky way to suck in more money for no additional value. Also, our TV and DVD player were useless. Soft beds.

The resort was in a beautiful location, close to Shenandoah National Park. It had lots of amenities geared toward families, which we didn't utilize since our kids are grown and gone. The unit was very spacious and had a lot of charm. It was very clean and comfortable. On the negative side, the wifi was an old dsl setup that was extremely slow when it worked at all. To avoid losing email content (which happened), I used my cellphone data the whole week. The TV reception was poor, especially for the movie channels. Also, the motion sensor lamp pole in front of the unit turned on and off every minute 24/7, regardless of motion. I contacted maintenance at the start of the week about these three issues. The maintenance personnel were very friendly and worked hard to fix them. However, the underlying equipment and systems were too old or finicky to fix while we were there. Having said all that, the hiking in the National Park was absolutely amazing! So we focused our time there on that, and we had a wonderful time. The resort is beautiful, and the unit was great in spite of those 3 issues. And the staff was as friendly and helpful as possible. They just need to fix those infrastructure issues to enhance the experience.

MV was the first place we stayed as a family in the early 2000's and we booked them again this year with our kids and their SOs, which tells you the overall staying power of Massanutten Resort! MV was very spacious - fit the 7 of us, and we could walk to the mini-golf, the Mountain Pool. Although we didn't use the bumper cars or bungee dome, we could also have walked there too. You definitely need to be mobile - lots of stairs. TONS of deer which is one of the coolest things - they are definitely used to humans. Hiked Kaylor Knob from the Overlook. Music at Base Camp was great, and so was the food. Felt badly that supplies of some items and activities were limited due to staffing issues, but we really had a great time anyway. Aside from the resort, we drove a part of Skyline Drive out of Elkton, went into Harrisonburg for dinner - which is a great little college town area, and checked out our very favorite Cross Keys Vineyard (the nearby lavender farm and their wine tasting was really nice too). My only complaint would be that the "extras" - horseback riding, kayaking/canoeing, were VERY expensive IMO. You just have to decide where you're going to spend your $$, and that will depend on the family size and ages.
