This is an extremely charming hotel in southwest Virginia. We stayed two nights. Unfortunately, the hotel's restaurant was closed both nights we were there (Sunday and Monday), and we had to eat elsewhere, but there are other restaurants very close by. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was very clean and located right downtown. The... More

Very comfortable, clean and quite. A very good included breakfast. Pleasant and helpful staff. Hotel overall showing a little wear and tear. Town also a little rundown and limited additional eating choices other than the hotel. Only ate breakfast there. I stayed the night on a motorcycle trip.

We stayed for 2 nights. The room was adequate in size and the bed fine. However the rug had several stains, the thermostat was hard to regulate and the hall had a strange smell. Staff were very nice. Breakfast is included but just ok. Marion is a very small and quiet town and the action is out of town at... More

Found the General Francis online while searching area accommodations. This a is great getaway. Comfortable updated rooms in a nearly century old building. Professional, courteous and friendly staff. Speakeasy restaurant on premises, comfortable with affordable and delicious bistro style selections. Continental breakfast was ok, but I personally don't stay in a hotel based on it's breakfast. Great placed as base... More

Had a one night get away with my wife, nice hotel. We've been wanting to spend an evening here and it turned out to be a good decision. Walking distance to several cool locations on main street and a bar downstairs. Nice patio overlooking Main St as well.

The room was a bit small, clean and well maintained. Front desk attendants very friendly and helpful. Parking handy and included in room rate. The downtown location was good in that made it convenient to restaurants and walking around to see the area nearby, Overall good value.

Beautiful hotel in a charming historic town. Easy walking to several great restaurants and shops. This is a town you wish you'd grown up in. Residents so friendly. On an evening walk we met the caretaker of the beautifully restored Lincoln Theatre, and he gave us a tour. This is where they perform the Songs of the Mountains for PBS.... More

I stayed here one night just because it was an old, historic building. It has been the General Francis Marion Hotel since opening in 1927. The building itself is a classic of its' period with a grand facade. Some recent renovations are evident, but it also shows it's age, but everything works well. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The... More

I have stayed at the General Francis Marion twice now and love the historic hotel. You must visit the Rooster Lounge attached to the hotel and be sure to visit the second floor card room. Rumor has it the rooster with a cocktail painting was a secret code that alcohol was served at the establishment during prohibition. For history buffs,... More

We enjoyed visiting the town of Marion and staying at the General Francis Marion Hotel! So many interesting antiques but the best part was the people who work there. We loved a light breakfast on the front balcony and our room was the executive suite!!!
