Hotel's Favourite
Absolutely loved every aspect of it. The main house with the lobby was so community-oriented- they had live music both nights I was there (chicken fat injection was an incredible band!). The bartenders were very sweet. It was a really spacious yet intimate feel.
As for the rooms, couldn’t have been better. I stayed in I think the suite in the trail house. It was so nice and the soaking tub and fireplace were extra special touches. Wish I could come back all of the time.
It was such a nice, intimate reprieve from the madness of the ski resorts

As soon as I walked into the hotel room, I knew it was going to be be a good stay. My family and I stayed in a suite with a king bed and a pull out sofa. Contents of the room included two TVs, a mini-fridge, cozy and modern chairs, a balcony, and a spacey bathroom with a bathtub and a shower. The water pressure in the shower was amazing.
The large pool was always cool and refreshing, and the surrounding chairs and sofas had a sign on each and every one of them confirming that it had just been sanitized.
Breakfast was several bags in the morning that you had to go and collect near the lobby. One bag was for two guests, so four people share two bags. Breakfast items included one main dish, such as oats or a parfait, a pastry, such as a muffin or a croissant, and a piece of fruit, such as an apple or an orange. Utensils and napkins were included in the bags.
I quite enjoyed most of the breakfast meals, but they could have been more comprehensive and included more items. This is not a complaint, but merely a suggestion.
Finally, the hotel was located less than a minute away from the Stowe Recreational Path, an 11 mile biking/walking path.
Would recommend. Thank you to the hotel and staff for yet another enjoyable experience in Stowe, Vermont.

This hotel is so stylish and cool but also comfy and welcoming. It is literally the most perfect location being walking distance to town and surrounded by incredible restaurants and breweries. There are tons of trails and outdoor activities to engage in close to the hotel as well. The pool area exceeded expectations with plenty of comfy pool chairs and cabanas and staff frequently checking in to clean and sanitize. The bagged breakfast in the morning (due to pandemic) was surprisingly excellent and consisted of a fresh pastry, a piece of fruit and a yogurt parfait, chia pudding, overnight oats, etc. I will 1000% be staying here again. It was a perfect experience.

The Field Guide was the first hotel we stayed at since the pandemic started. We decided to take a drive up to VT after they opened up to visitors again in June and we're so glad we chose this hotel.
All precautions were followed including distancing, masks and sanitizer. We were upgraded to the fabulous and spacious Trail Suite, which was more than enough room for my husband, daughter and I. She chose to sleep in the lofted area, which was cute.
The room was clean (we were the first to stay there since the hotel had just reopened) and looked exactly as it does online, though the 2nd bedroom might be challenging with light because of the way the AC is hooked up to the window. We didn't use that room so it didn't matter to us. The shower was also a little on the scary side, small and kind of reminiscent of a camper shower, but I guess that's the intent? 😅 There is a bathtub though, so at least there's another option.
The service is what really set the hotel apart for us. Michael was incredibly responsive and accommodating, even going so far as customizing gluten AND dairy-free breakfast options for me! I enjoyed some delicious berry muffins every day in my breakfast bag and later found out he baked them from scratch! The coconut chia porridge was super yum too. My non-GF family loved the fresh-baked goods in their bags too (and loved the welcome chocolate chip cookies).
I'd highly recommend staying here just based on the awesome hospitality alone. Stowe was a lovely getaway and we'll definitely be back!

We so enjoyed our stay at the Field Guide Lodge that we extended our stay twice. The location is perfect if you are planning to ski at Stowe yet be central enough in the evenings to go out into town. The hotel itself has a unique boutique feel with a modern Scandinavian design that feels warm and welcoming. We stayed in two different rooms while we were there. The larger deluxe room was very nice but the TV was quite far from the bed. The second smaller room was cozier and worked well for us too. The staff were all exceptional; very friendly and eager to help out. Food-wise, there is a restaurant across the road and the hotel serves a delicious curated breakfast that changes daily as well as beer and wine for an apres drink. In the afternoons and evenings, they also provide freshly baked cookies that are truly addictive. We will definitely be returning to this hotel!

We just stayed here with a 4 year old and we had the best time. The breakfast, cookies, games, and all the fun places to sit really made it a special place for us to enjoy our first real family vacation with our child. The room was on the smaller side, but we knew that going in. I think the site did a good job of showing the difference in price and room size. The hotel has such great, usable common areas we spent most of our time hanging out in the game area. The shower was great, but extremely small for a 6'4" guy, but again we knew that going in. The location is perfect. Walkable to good food and the shops, short drive or shuttle to the mountain.

We had a lovely long weekend at the Field Guide Lodge. The room is extremely cozy, and the lobby is a beautiful place to hang out. The staff did an exceptional job of making it feel warm and welcoming in spite of covid. They were extremely friendly and responsive to what we needed and were very helpful with recommendations and advice.
We can't wait to come back to Stowe once the pandemic is over, and when we do, we will definitely come back to the Field Guide Lodge.

We stayed in cottage 1 - two bedrooms, living room, kitchen area and bathroom. Multiple Apple TV’s. Loved the cool design of the place (especially the lobby!) and separate rooms for kids and parents. The service is excellent, everyone is so nice and accommodating. Great to have the hot tub after a day of skiing, had to reserve but always could find times. Convenient parking to the cottages and really could be contactless. Masks and COVID protocols enforced. Wonderful breakfast bags each morning with different menus including things like fresh fruit, chia pudding, overnight oats, fruit, granola and yogurt cups and amazing freshly baked muffins and scones. Hot tea and coffee available in lobby and keuring in room with coffee pods. And finally loved the Lather toiletries, wonderful scents.
While the room is designed in a hip rustic style there could be some improvements in functionality — the sink has almost no space to put toiletries, we had to bring in a chair to set things down on. The shower is one of those glass doors that only covers half the width of the shower so is awkward. Would have rather had a microwave oven than two stove top burners we did not use. You’ve got to have coat hooks in a ski hotel and this room only had hanging in the closets in the bedrooms. Instead of the narrow shelves next to the bathroom I would knock that out and put up a bar to hang coats or hooks....
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and our first trip to Stowe in the winter.

It all looks so nice on the website but the reality is different. Other than the fact that our room was large (two large rooms actually), it did not make up for the many shortfalls of the property.
The building itself was cheaply made and despite trying to look mid century modern, it could not hide the fact that everything under the surface is cheap. The floors creaked when you walk and we heard every footstep and thump from the people above us. All the finish carpentry and doors, fittings, locks and windows are what I would call "builder grade" and everything looked tired and old. The switch plates for the lights were all yellow with age and looked like they should have been replaced years ago. The patio furniture on our balcony was dirty and covered in leaves. We had to walk around the outside of the property to get to the reception for ice and clean glasses and it was all very dark and creepy and across the gravel parking lot. The two buildings are not connected to allow customers remain indoors. A rough-cut wooden back-splash in a bathroom is the worst idea ever and was covered in dried soap and toothpaste splatter. The plastic shower stall would be fitting in a campground or Motel 6; not a luxury boutique hotel.
I understand that COVID has changed the level of service but other than a bag with some cookies, chocolate and some soap in our room at check in, the lack of any type of service made the whole experience second rate.
The staff I did see (1 person at the front desk was all I ever saw) were nice enough but it was kind of weird to be in large hotel with only one person on duty.
I had such high hopes for the whole chain of Lark hotels and thought it would be my "go-to" (default) while we lived here for a few years but I think maybe it is just some slick marketing (lipstick on a pig) to make some old properties look nice but when you pull back the covers you find out it is just smoke and mirrors. Maybe the other properties in the Lark portfolio are different but I am not willing to take another chance.

Thanks for your honest feedback and transparency. We pride ourselves on very creative and thoughtful re-designs of older buildings. It certainly enhances the experience and our guests who come back love the large rooms, the charm, and the thoughtful touches, but unfortunately we can't change some of the physical elements you found so off putting with the property. As each of our buildings are unique, have different layouts, and each tell their own story - I would encourage you to give us another shot. We can help guide you through our portfolio of some amazing places.

I’m always lurking on Trip Advisor and I’m making it a point to make sure I let everyone know how AMAZING Field Guide Lodge is. After a long cold day driving to Stowe it was a blessing arriving at Field Guide Lodge, with a warm welcome and roaring fire in the fireplace. Kameisha, welcomed us with a warm smile and answered our numerous questions. There were cookies and cider there as well which were so good. The room was perfect for us. I thought it was a great size. We had a queen room in the main building. Outlets were next to both sides of the bed and a rack to hang up clothes. The heat worked gloriously and the bed was so comfortable. The bathroom is small especially the shower. That would be my only complaint and it wasn’t that big of a deal. The gift bag with the local treats were a nice touch.
The cleaning ladies were so nice and friendly and did such an amazing job every day. After a long day of skiing it was so nice entering a nice warm clean room.
Breakfast changes everyday and was delicious. It’s definitely QUALITY over Quantity. They always had enough and it was always readily available.
Field has the perfect location. All the popular and good restaurants are in walking distance and only 15 minute drive to Stowe Mountain for skiing. Do yourself a favor and go to Piecasso for pizza, sooo good and they also deliver if you’re not inclined to drive(5 minutes)
On our last day, we were to leave at 6am before breakfast. We mentioned this to the gentleman at the front desk and he got up and made us breakfasts bags for the next day. They were so good and appreciated.
If you’re reading this and are on the fence, please do yourself a favor and book as you will not be disappointed.
