Stayed twice in one week (going and coming). Be warned: the hotel is about all the town has, so it needs to be good and it is. Hotel lobby and common area is beautiful. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms (252 & 250) were on the small side (expected from a 1930's hotel) but very clean and comfortable. As other...

Very charming hotel, albeit old. Staff was friendly. Food in restaurant was good and nicely presented. Bathroom clean! (Always a plus!) Our room, however, left a lot to be desired. Very small room for 2 adults and a dog. The bed is a small (and uncomfortable) queen. Additionally, the contour sheets pockets were not deep enough for the bed and...

When I found this place on the internet almost 18months ago I immediately marked it down as an ideal place to spend a night en route from San Antonio to El Paso during our American road trip. The actual hotel almost lived up to our reasonable expectations but the staff I am afraid let it down badly! First to the...

Right off the highway, this historic hotel is perfect for a night. Check in was easy. The room size was just right. The bed was comfortable but sagged in the center. The pillows were non-feather (allergy sufferers thank you!). The bathroom was tiny but adequate. The shower/tub combo was virtually free of mold (thank you, housekeeping!). The water pressure was...

Stayed here one night on trip from California to San Antonio, TX. Arrived around 8:30 pm and was greeted by a courteous front desk person who had our reservation ready. After settling in, went downstairs to the restaurant, which was a pleasant surprise. Open until 10 pm, the restaurant has an extensive menu including steak, salmon, chicken and more. Our...

We stayed at the El Capitan based on reviews from Trip Advisor. I was not disappointed. It seemed more like a good bed and breakfast than a hotel. The building dates from the 1930s but has been extensively updated. The management has done wonders with the original rooms. They are small and we didn’t have a good work area. The...

I never would have tried this place if not for Trip Advisor entries. Being a Hilton Diamond I usually stay in Hampton Inn in Van Horn but it was full. I now will always use this hotel. Inviting warm lobby, friendly staff and a room that was fresh, clean, and with a bed like home, but still had the charm...

The reviews of many of the motels in Trip Advisor for Van Horn were not very good so we went with the #1 recommendation. The lobby was pretty with appropriate period music playing in the background. Staff was friendly. The room was a disappointment. I know historic hotels have smaller rooms but we had a room with two beds which...

We have stayed here several times as a base to explore the Guadalupe Mountains and Carlsbad Caverns. The hotel is nice, clean and the staff is great. The rates are very reasonable. I always feel like I step back in time when we stay there. We also like to sit in the courtyard in the evening and have a drink,...

I chose this hotel as a second choice in town and was very pleasantly surprised. It was very unique rustic and represented 1930 very well. the room was clean, thoughtfully laid out. Lots to see on this property. Staff was very friendly. I sat in the restaurant and had a beer. I had already eaten but the food looked terrific. True...
