What do you need in a hotel? 1. Good night's sleep. Check, more or less. The bed was delightfully comfortable. But the pillows were literally bricks. Very hard. I'm glad I brought my own pillow! And one other problem--I was reminded of the hotel/train scene in "My Cousin Vinny." Vinny Gambini: "Yesterday you told me that freight train hardly ever...

What a great surprise ... this historic hotel in the west Texas town of Van Horn is a gem! Some of the rooms are a little small, however, very clean and nice amenities. Love that after the restorations you can still feel the historic ambience. Fridge, microwave, free Wi-Fi. They offer fruit in the lobby as well as a jigsaw...

We stayed for one night at the Hotel El Capitan. It's a beautiful historic place, the room was quite small but clean. Complimentary wifi worked well and breakfast was O.K. We've read about the train in other reviews and were prepared for some noise but with earplugs it was not that bad. It was a nice stay for one night.

Who knew? There is actually a good hotel in this small dusty little west Texas town. Pay extra for one of the deluxe king rooms with the large balconies, otherwise the rooms are fairly small, yet still well appointed. Baths in all rooms are quite small but functional.

This is a great hotel! It is clean and the beds are comfortable. The rooms are small but it is in a renovated old building. Check in and out was easy. We ate at their restaurant and the food was delicious. We ordered tapas as our appetizer and it was tasty! My husband and I split an order of Chicken...

Ditto to the positive comments. There are probably a dozen motels in Van Horn, but if you want an experience, stay at Hotel El Capitan. We took Room 257, which has a view of Broadway Street. We peeked into a courtyard room and could not see a reason to pay more for the courtyard view.

Seniors driving across country just for the hell of it. Changed schedule due to weather and flamed out near Van Horn. Checked with Holiday inn, elevator was INOP. Guy recommend El Capitan. Price was good, room was very adequate (bit small) restaurant/bar were cool. Local economy has been depressed , but look past that. Good food, cold speciality beer and...

If you ever have to pass through Van Horn, Texas and need to stay a night, this is the place to stay. Renovated old hotel. Our room was small, but very comfortable with everything needed. The restaurant is excellent and the staff is warm and friendly. Great experience!

Excellent historic hotel. This was a very refreshing change after too many nights in a Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, or Hilton Gardens. The entrance plaza, lobby, stairwells, hallways, rooms, and dining room all offer a look into the grande old days of travel. Very well done! Be sure to enjoy dinner and breakfast in the hotel dining room. The...

Although our room was tiny, and the train was loud (coming through town a block away 4 times during the night), we were happy to support this interesting, old hotel and restaurant. It's actually a gem. What a find!
