El Capitan Hotel located in "downtown" Van Horn is a jewel and an excellent step back from the branded and alike, It is a non-smoking well maintained and updated property that has withstood the test of time and is a pleasure to stay in. The beds are comfortable and the rooms quiet. Several trains pass in the night but it...

The artsy, colorful tiles and western theme combined with tasteful holiday decorations - complete with blazing fire and Christmas tree - made for nice photos. Homemade bread/cake was an unexpected welcoming touch on Christmas night, since the restaurant was closed. We knew dining options would be limited, so brought a cooler and picnicked in our room at the desk adjacent...

This is a first class update in this hotel. This historic locations has been given the best appointments in the smallish rooms. There is a full bath and even a nightlight in the bathroom, the beds are ultra comfortable and everything is spotless, they even have a microwave and a refrigerator in a closet. However, this night we just spent...

This is a lovely old hotel. We had a room with a terrace over looking the courtyard with the fountain. This room was larger and quite nice. We had a great dinner in the dining room. The staff and the general manager were wonderful!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel on the recommendation of friends. It did not disappoint! The lobby was beautifully decorated in vintage southwest style. We had a very tasty dinner at a fairly late hour in the hotel restaurant. The room was on the smaller size but was very clean and the bed wonderfully comfortable. The bathroom was...

Charming hotel. Our room was so small that after we put our suitcases in there we couldn't walk around anymore. Beds could have been more comfortable. Room was clean as well as the bathroom. Breakfast was very basic. No hot food at all. For the price the quality was just not there. We are at the restaurant and the food...

This place exudes charm and a bygone era. Yes, the rooms are small, and the walls thin; it was built in 1930 after all. Yet, the guests are likely entirely road-troopers, passing through, so once everyone was in their rooms things fell silent. This is a gem of a place that I'm glad I chose and will return to again...

After looking for a hotel halfway between Dallas and Phoenix we decided to try El Capitan in Van Horn TX, and glad we did! It's a charming older refurbished hotel and it was a real treat to stay at! It's worth the stop for the charm and friendliness!

I always make it a point to stay the night at the El Capitan Hotel when passing through Van Horn. I love the court yard rooms with a balcony overlooking the fountain. The restaurant is phenomenal. Try the pecan encrusted fried steak with jalapeño mashed potatoes. Bedding is very comfortable.
