I always make it a point to stay the night at the El Capitan Hotel when passing through Van Horn. I love the court yard rooms with a balcony overlooking the fountain. The restaurant is phenomenal. Try the pecan encrusted fried steak with jalapeño mashed potatoes. Bedding is very comfortable.

This is a great hotel literally in the middle of no where. It has been completely restored to its original charm with modern touches such as a bathroom with full size tub/shower in the room (compact but very functional). The rooms are very charming. This is an old hotel so the rooms are not spacious but for two people we... More

Well worth the stop for a night or two. Food excellent, staff outstanding, and obliviously a well managed property. Such an interesting building to spend the night in. A step back in time when traveling truly was an adventure.

What a charming place! From the lobby and it's extensive tile work to the courtyard and it's fountain, this is a terrific place to spend a couple of days. The rooms are clean and comfortable (though not overly large) and the beds are nice and have quality linens. Highly recommended!

What a pleasant surprise! We really enjoyed our stay and loved opening the french doors looking out over the fountain. The dinner was wonderful and the staff was fun to talk with. We loved how they kept the authenticity of the hotel... I wish the town would bring back the downtown like they did the hotel. We will stay there... More

I love this place. Built in 1930, it takes you back to the olden days. Stop here if you are trying to power through to get to El Paso. Van Horn is much much safer. It's fun hearing the trains go by! We stayed in a room that overlooked the courtyard. The wooden balcony overlooked onto a fountain which was... More

My husband and I went to the restaurant for dinner and it was very good. He had a chicken dish which he said was excellent. I tried their specialty which was a pistachio crusted cubed steak and it was also very good. Mine came with grilled asparagus, mashed potatoes (the real ting) and grilled asparagus. It also comes with jalapeño... More

Dinner was great, went to room looked like my grandmothers room. The bathroom is tiny, rooms so small not even a place to put your luggage. Running vacuume at 8:30 am right outside door not great since we didn't arrive till late the previous evening . The breakfast was ok but all baked goods such as breads or pastries were... More

From the street, the first thing struck me was how small it appears. Once inside, you immediately see why it's Van Horn's top rated hotel. If you are going to be in town more than a day or two, this is the closest thing you will find to luxury in the desert. The lobby is classic western and the rooms... More

We romanced and relaxed next to the babbling fountain. We romanced, drank excellent wine and ate an AWESOME steak dinner in the onsite resteraunt . The included breakfast spread was ample and fresh. I'm still using the goat soap from the complementary toiletries. I APPRECIATE a hotel that provides made in the USA toiletries. There is an echo at the... More
