Dwayne is a gracious host. Rooms unique, clean and comfortable. Off street parking, very quiet location even though right off a Main Street into town. Decor unique down to the percolator for coffee Beats staying in a similarly priced chain hotel any day. Great night's sleep!
I came to see the slave cabins in Washington-on-the-Brazos but when I got to town seems like no one could tell me a good place to stay. I got online and found this gem! I like the attention to detail in little things here -- the rooms, (Grace Kelly for me) the outside front and back lawns and patio... there seems to be constant ongoing improvements and perfection on the part of the owner, Dwayne, who I must say is very nice. He is informative, talkative without being intrusive, with an eye for detail and what works. I know I going back home with some make-over ideas for my place!
We made reservations and stayed in the Grace Kelly suite. It was GREAT! Fun, oh so relaxing! Everything was clean and comfortable. Duane was a great host, breakfast was fresh, hit and DELISH. The grounds are soothing and it's just a really nice place...we'll be back!
We stayed in the apartment. The beds were comfy and the bedding was clean. There is not a cooked breakfast but everything is provided to cook your own. However, the kitchen utensils and supplies are in dire need of upgrading. Almost every pot we pulled out was peeling teflon, had old food on it or was flithy. Opened containers in fridge from prior guests was a bit weird. Most disappointing aspect of the stay was that the pool is no longer available, as a matter of fact the house in the picture is no longer part of the property. This was a 2 story building with the apartment on top and a few rooms on the bottom floor.
The photos of the Grace Kelly Room looked cool, but staying in it wasn't. The furniture and decorations are all massive, making it hard to negotiate the room. And by the time you put the decorative pillows on the bedside tables, there's no space for luggage. A chandelier hanging over the head of the bed was daunting. The top sheet was torn, the bottom sheet stained and the pillows hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom towels were thin and unmatched. Prepackaged food was in large quantities, but some had been opened as had the creamer in the fridge... alongside an opened bottle of champagne. It felt like someone had left the minute we arrived. Very uncomfortable. The AC, though on high, wasn't adequate. The room felt humid and uncomfortable. Prepare to wake up early to the pounding steps of the people in the apartment right above your room. Oh, but there was a brand new full size bar of soap in the bathroom, that was nice. But for our $165, we expected way more than a full size bar of soap.…
