Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
I went to Tigotan from 26th Aug - 2nd Sep with my partner, and we both absolutely loved it. The hotel is in a great location, about 5 minutes walk from great restaurants, shops and the beach.
Firstly, the room. We opted for an upgraded 'Smart Room' with 'Executive Service'. Overall we'd say that the upgrade was worth it but there are a few things that could make it better. The bed was enormous and comfortable, and the mood lighting and sound system were nice little extras. Balcony facing the pool was great, meant you could watch poolside entertainment at night if you wanted to be in the comfort of your own room. Mini-fridge was stocked and for once actually cooled stuff down, rather than making it room temperature - real bonus, especially as Tenerife was in the 30c + whilst we were there.
Two slight disappointments with the room were 1) The room was advertised as coming with a gaming console, which I confess helped sway my decision to book the room as I thought it would be entertaining whilst my partner got ready for evenings, however this was not in the room. 2) was that the toilet was a little run-down. Plenty space and shower was fine, but the grouting was dirty, it was dark and dingy, the mirror was damaged and generally it felt tired. It would have been disappointing had we even gone for the standard room, but it felt especially out of place having had the upgraded room.
The 'executive' service entitles you to some nice upgrades - glass of fizz when you arrive, help along to your room at check-in and shown the technology, free mini-fridge, free use of the safe, free booking of sun beds and access to the executive lounge. The latter is a small area with indoor and outdoor seating, and unlimited free food and drink. Sandwiches and snacks are pretty basic but did the job as a quick snack between breakfast and dinner. Drink options were good and well stocked. The executive service also gives you a voucher for a free meal at their a la carte restaurant, which we used and was fantastic - especially the salmon tartare!
Hotel had great entertainment, with activities on downstairs most days. The upstairs Cafe Del Mar section with the infinity pools were great, and although we didn't need it ourselves, it was great to see that one of the pools had been given gradual incline steps for those with accessibility needs. A special shout-out goes to the staff at Cafe Del Mar, the rooftop bar, who were incredibly friendly and accommodating - especially their patience with my Spanish!
All in all, it's a great hotel in a fabulous location, just 5 minutes saunter from restaurants, bars and beaches. The staff were great as were the facilities, and I would definitely go back in the future.

First things first, anyone who posts a negative review about this place must be really hard to please!
Central location, lovely room, cleaned to a high standard each day. Excellent choice of food for breakfast and evening meal. Welcoming, friendly and professional staff.Caspar in main dining room was outstanding and a great ambassador for the organisation.Nice pool area and plenty loungers( if customers weren’t selfish) but more on this later.
During evening meal one night we were approached by general manager ( as were others) who took the time to ask us if there were any issues he could assist with. Never experienced this before but was a nice touch and spoke volumes for the place.
We gave him an honest assessment , all of which was positive apart from... the reserving of sun loungers with towels etc placed on them to “book” them for the day and let’s not accuse foreigners of this as Brits were every bit as bad. He maintained was about educating people(agreed) but didn’t think it was hotels responsibility! (Strongly disagreed!)
Easy solution, if for example towels are on beds first thing in morning( before pool area is officially open), simply remove them and have the owners come and recover them. Similarly if towels are left on loungers for a specific period, say more than 30 minutes?again , remove them. These selfish people are preventing other customers from using the facilities they’ve paid for as well. Appreciate it has become the norm no matter what hotel you go to but this would certainly educate customers.
All in all a very nice experience, at a reasonable price and would recommend and return.

Arrived at hotel on 5/02/20 and left on the 14/02/20. Overall the hotel hasn’t changed much with all the vitals for a good stay at a very good level.
Nit picking would be things like for returning guest you don’t seem to always get a complimentary bottle of fiz which on the grand scale for a hotel like this would be small fry, yet it makes the guest feel so good.
Food is of a good standard for mass produced but again can get repetitive, and replenishing of some food is slow
Sweets are very repetitive with the same dish most nights
Cleanliness of hotel and all outside areas are kept immaculate, with the pool area a credit to staff as the early towel placers are tramping about through their work from sunrise.
Food in pool bar is very good and hot and staff very efficient.
Overall location of hotel is great for beach or shops and a direct airport bus stop 100 meters from front door(no 40) and it run every 30minutes at 10 to and 20 past the hour.
Would highly recommend this hotel to all and I have worked extremely hard to find my few gripes

Dear Geoffmeg First of all, we would like to thank you for coming to Tigotan and publishing these lovely words on the TripAdvisor website. It is a real pleasure that you have explained your great experience in our fantastic hotel. We have to say that our teams work very hard to ensure that the hotel is always clean and perfect for our guests so it is wonderful that you have appreciated a high level of cleanliness. Regarding to the welcome drink, we should tell you that it is something that we always do. It is really important for us that you have a perfect stay since you arrive to our hotel and we try to make you feel like you are at home. On the other hand, you have mentioned our food and our desserts. We have many types of food and we are sorry if it was not enough for you. We wil tell your opinion to the departments involved to consider your suggestions. Also, we appreciate that you have highlighted our pool staff who always tries to do a good job. Regarding to the towels, they make all they can as fast as it is possible but sometimes our hotel is full of people and it is more complicated to do it as fast as we wish. We are sorry if it was not perfect for you. Furthermore, we are grateful that you appreciate our location, as our hotel is one of the best situated in the area, very close to the beach, with good connections to the airport, and in an area full of bars, shops and restaurants so it is fantastic for your holidays. Finally, we would like yo thank you again and we hope to see you back to Tigotan. Kind regards.

I don’t understand a lot of the reviews about this hotel and as I don’t go to a lot of hotels I can only assume there are some really bad ones out there and that as a consequence the Tigotan really stands out to people.
Don’t get me wrong this is a perfectly acceptable place to stay, it has a nice reception and pool area the facilities outside of the room are are perfectly acceptable no complaints at all.
The food is mass produced cheap but well cooked and hot and there is a variety you will not starve they will also cook something for you if you don’t mind the wait my only complaint about the restaurant would be it’s layout which seemed to cause a lot of wandering around because the food was so spread out.
The room we were in was basically in the basement so no natural light, no kettle or any other facilities in the room and a tv which was off to one side. The bed was comfortable though. The room did smell but I think that was its location and the bathroom door was rotting from the bottom up because the fan wasn’t working.
My partner and I discussed complaining because the room was genuinely poor even though we weren’t in there much I know we could have paid more and got a better room but I do think that for the money we shouldn’t have felt the need to upgrade.
My thoughts on the room is that the hotel wasn’t at capacity I think the rooms in the basement should be the last rooms that the hotel uses when I spoke to reception about it at the end of our holiday as soon as I said where our room was I could tell she agreed it was in the naffiest part of the hotel and that I wasn’t the first person to express disappointment.
I’m sure everyone thinks we should have complained if we weren’t happy with the room at the time we thought that we would just be put in a room further up on the same side and as the facilities in the room would have been the same it just seemed like it would be hassle for us for very little benefits. The rooms are sold as basic double and they really do mean basic they are clean.
There are a lot of comments about the staff and they are great all friendly and all say hello (let’s not kid ourselves that this isn’t an instruction they are following though there’s nothing wrong with this but if anyone is naive enough to think anything else they need to check themselves) I think all staff who work in this type of role deserve a bloody medal though so fair play to them.
So this hotel is ok its got some nice points you will find something to eat it’s close to town and the beach and the staff are very helpful. It is by no means excellent though it’s ok to good I would say.
However my final point I reviewed it whilst I was staying there at four stars (I have subsequently deleted that review) and the day after I put my review up a review went up marking the hotel 5 stars and refuting all the bad points I had raised and directly referring to something from my review I found this very strange and wonder why the hotel has so many 5 star reviews. I leave it to you to consider and make your own minds up, the above is my genuine opinion and I hope it’s clear that although I wouldn’t go back to this hotel I didn’t think it was worth the money, I also didn’t think it was a terrible place and in general we had a nice week other better travelled people may think it’s amazing and really enjoy it.

Dear Melanie T, We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Tigotan through TripAdvisor. However, we regret to hear that your stay has not lived up to expectations. First of all, we apologize if the room we offered you was not to your liking. We would like to make it clear that there are different types of rooms in our hotel and each one carries its own cost. Of course, this difference in price means that there are better or worse. In times of high occupation as in your case, extra rooms are offered, but only at a very affordable price. Please do not hesitate to comment on any discontent at the reception, so that we will be able to solve these problems during the stay. Regarding the comments about our staff, we regret that you have the feeling that they only have a role to play. Although there are some instructions - the same as in any company - greeting our guests is only a matter of good manners. Lastly, we would like to comment that tools like TripAdvisor are totally public so anyone can read and refute a differing opinion. As a company, these tools allow us to know firsthand the experience of our guests. This information is twice useful when the guests are still hosted at the hotel as we can carry out measures to improve their stay with us. We regret if you felt like your experience has not been up to 5 stars, but fortunately several guests can attest the excellent service that we offer. At the same time, we would like you to give us a new chance to offer you a 5-star experience at our hotel Tigotan. Kind regards.

We booked this hotel last minute as the one we had planned to stay in hadn’t re-opened yet following a refurb and so glad we chose here 😍
We had a romance room (only because we wanted white bed sheets not blue haha) and exclusive half board which got you breakfast, dinner and access to the exclusive room (photos attached). Exclusive room was open 10.30-6.30 I think and there was alcohol (draught beer/spirits/champagne) , soft drinks on tap and various snacks throughout the day (sandwiches, crackers, fruit, the MOST AMAZING carrot cake etc).
Breakfast was a good large selection including usual cooked breakfast bits (even English sausages which made us happy), pancakes, fruit, cereal etc. The staff were amazing and constantly cleaning to ensure there were tables available.
Dinner was OK. We only went in twice in the evening as we hadn’t planned to eat in there anyway due to the amount of restaurants around. The actual dinner selection wasn’t to our taste (veal and turkey stews etc, maybe that appeals to other nationalities) but there was a gorgeous paella on offer every night and also pizza/chips etc.
All food is help yourself buffet just wear a mask and use sanitizer.
The experience team were lovely and couldn’t do enough for you. Also the reception team were always happy to call a taxi for you (although the taxi rank is just a 2 minute walk down the road).
You could book sun beds on the roof but had to call at 8am the morning before. It was €20 for the day for the basic beds (or included if you are exclusive board) or €150 for the Bali beds. We booked a basic bed but only stayed up there for 2 hours as no parasols so got a bit too hot as the day went on.
The only part of this hotel that let it down for us was the roof top bar. My partner ordered a vodka&orange juice which cost €17!!!! And the staff were just plain rude. We only went up there once and didn’t return because of this.
There was entertainment every other evening around the pool which finished by 11.30pm and there was aqua aerobics/other entertainment in the pool during the day. All beds would be taken by 9am ish but we would usually be busy in the morning and go to lay by the pool in the afternoon and have no issue getting a bed (2pm ish onwards). There is music played around the pool which we enjoyed.
I would say there is a fair mix of ages at the hotel. Definitely not a party/young persons hotel like other reviews stipulate. If anything there were more guests aged 50+ than other ages.
Was a good location for us as we split our time between los cristianos and las americas. Plenty of bars/restaurants around (they don’t all show on google maps etc) and lots of supermarkets (2 opposite the hotel).
Most beaches don’t have sun beds out to hire but we bought a small parasol for €5 and laid on towels which wasn’t an issue.
Overall we would stay at this hotel again

We have just returned from staying a week at this lovely hotel with our friends.
We all agreed the hotel was excellent, the staff were friendly, breakfast -there was so much to chose from as was the diner in the evening and all to a high standard.
The rooms are a decent size with a small fridge and safe, they are cleaned daily.Only thing missing is there is no kettle in the room, and as we like a cup of tea or coffee we ended up buying a small travel kettle.
The swimming pools and sun loungers are all clean and tidy,we preferred the rooftop swimming pool and paid 10 Euros each for a sun bed there,we found it a bit quieter there and the sunbeds are more comfortable.
The hotel is located in a good location just a 5 minute walk to the nearest bars and restaurants ,there is a large supermarket on the opposite side of the road just down the road a bit.
When we got home i had an email from the hotel saying they had overcharged our final bill and a refund of 74 euros had been paid back onto my credit card-we didn't even notice this so were surprised and grateful for this -just sums up what a lovely hotel it is with wonderful staff running it.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel

Stayed here and it was like being on a 18-24 club holiday. Loud music all night and rubbish loud entertainment throughout the day so you just don’t get to relax. Bedrooms are dated and plastic seating on balcony. Cleaners constantly knocking on your door to clean the room even though their was a sign on door to not disturb us. Food bland and chefs use tongs for raw and cooked meats. Complained to management about noise of music and response was it will finish soon- couldn’t even hear my partner in the room and they were shouting.

Dear Travecouple, We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us at Tigotan through TripAdvisor. We are sorry to hear that your stay here has not been as expected. Our hotel, as advertised, will offer an experience that combines fun and relaxation time in an intimate and exclusive atmosphere. Both options are possible, by having a program of entertainment that encourages our guests to join in and that always respects times of rest and relax. On the other hand, we will discuss with the cleaning service these observations to know what could have happened, since we limit ourselves to respect the wishes of our guests in these situations. We will also investigate and discuss with the chefs this assessment, as we have the best professionals and all healthy protocols are followed. We hope at least you enjoyed the wonderful island of Tenerife during your holiday. Kind regards.

We have stayed here many, many times but the past few times I see issues that are needing dealt with but no one is interested.
English TV channels they list about 15 in all. In reality there are 3 -: BBC1 (which sometimes can be BBC 3), BBC2, and ITV2 +1. When I enquired two different times, I was assured it would be looked into and they let me know. I’m still waiting!
Shower had a mind all of its own, and no it’s not a unique problem to the room we had. You would set up the desired temperature and all of a sudden you could either get scorching hot water or very cold water. Every day was the same to the point we were extremely unhappy to have to use it.
The aircon in the rooms was poor and never really cooled to what I would consider an acceptable level.
Sanatising the tables was very hit and miss. Yes they had sanitizer and cloths to wipe the table, but the touch points on the chairs were only ever done properly once in all the time we were there. Both arms, top and underside of where you grip to pull the chair in, and the back of the chair where you hold to pull the chair out to sit on it. A quick hit and miss flick was all they ever got. They did however manage to wipe the actual bit you put your bum on??? Why, no-one ever touches that bit with their hands. Only one waiter we watched did it all correctly once.
Our main issue is the food. Now you won’t starve of hunger here, that’s for sure, but the lack of decent, restaurant quality, properly cooked food was evident. It’s all lukewarm, cheap cuts of meat, and bland. We lasted a few days eating it in the hope it would get better, but alas no. At that stage we gave up and went out for dinner every night, what a different and pleasant difference that made to our holiday experience. If you enjoy eating out this is NOT your hotel for sure.
I suggest that the owners book themselves in for 2 weeks to the Tigotan and just see how they get on. I reckon that might change a lot things!!
On a more positive note the staff are really an asset to this hotel, always smiling and aiming to please.
The hotel is spotless and the maids do an amazing job of cleaning the rooms.
I have recommended this hotel to many of my friends who have stayed here but I am sad to say I won’t be doing this till things change.

Everything about our holiday/ the hotel was fantastic. Rooms are spacious and functional, (Though shower cubicle a bit small), comfy beds, air con very quiet and cleaners do a great job. The food selection and quality is very good and there is a microwave. The restaurant is spacious, and well laid out. No noise from screeching chairs, and the staff are very efficient. The room locations are difficult to describe. We had a room on the outside of the 'U' shaped building, (not overlooking pool), had sun on our balcony all day but a pretty naff view of 3 buildings. On the "inside" of the 'U' shape is the pool view, but the sun only hits one side, other side gets no sun at all! (Hope all that makes sense). We didn't really mind as we didn't spend long in the room, and it was otherwise really nice. All the staff are lovely, A special mention for the animation girls, Camilla,(daft as a brush and can talk for England, but lovable!) and lovely Lucia. Would we go again? Already booked! (Despite the worst sandstorm for 30 years!)

We have just returned from a lovely holiday here .
Fully booked when we there which was a shame as we wanted to move to a poolView room ( which we managed to do with 5 days to go )
Everything I mention here I have already fed back to the management of the hotel .
Much has been written about the rooms , they are not luxurious and do need more drawers and sockets but are functional and the cleaning is excellent . No kettle so brought our own travel kettle and iron ( which we had to use in the bathroom as no spare sockets )
The communal areas are stunning & the pool areas are extremely well looked after .
The restaurant is really nice and amazing choice of food , especially the fresh cooking station . We did find that the food wasn’t hot and quite often salty so opted for the freshly grilled fish and meat or pasta . There was a lovely selection of salads and various starters ,
We never ate a pud but the cheese selection was delicious . We tried a number of drinks at dinner , wines and beers along with water ( quite expensive st €2.20 per bottle ) do think the hotel could offer water on tap .
Breakfast had a massive range of options so really nothing to complain about .
We ate lunch a few times at the Beach club and it was really reasonable , delicious & freshly cooked .
Pool & jacuzzi pool were heated which was a pleasant surprise and did the aqua gym a few times with the animation team .
There is a strict policy in reserving beds ( 30 minutes and your stuff will be removed ) which the life guard tried to enforce so it did dissuade most people from getting up at silly o’clock but not all .
Sometimes though there were at least 3 different sets of music playing which was just horrible and not relaxing !
Also what should be a massive plus but became an issue … was the area set aside for “ disabled “ people .
More often than not the sunbeds we’re taken by very fit looking people ( I know you can’t see everybody’s disability ) but they seemed to be okay in other areas on other days !!!
then people in wheelchairs had nowhere to sunbathe ! I messaged the manager & spoke to another about this , as did a number of people in wheelchairs .
We watched the entertainment on a couple of evenings which was excellent and also had cocktails on the roof on Cafe del Mar which had stunning views , we didn’t reserve beds on the roof as there was no shade at all but it was always very busy .
All in all a lovely hotel with some room for improvement but their biggest asset of all is their staff who were absolutely excellent and always very helpful !
We would definitely stay here again but would always book pool view room .
