Value
Two star hotel When you open the door to this larch wood chalet, you are entering a hotel that dates back to 1936 and the early days of tourism in the Vallee de la Guisane. This is a peaceful place on the edge of Salle les Alpes, a traditional SERRE-CHEVALIER VALLEE village at an altitude of 1,400 metres and a great place to stay. Marie Noelle and Vincent have carried out extensive renovations and are delighted to welcome you to this intimate and comfortable chalet, equipped with bathrooms with showers.

Lovely hosts in a lovely place. Excellent food. We stayed three days and were delighted by the warm and authentic welcome we have found. We also loved the dining at one common table sharing talks with other guests. We forgot about our telephones for a while :P

we also enjoyed you being here happy and enthusiastic! You're right! it's good now and then to forget about our phones...and to get the impression to be in another world made out of mountains, authenticity and other expériences. I'm also pleased you were happy because you couldn't get a double bed , your room was one of the smallest of our chalet...ok we made it cosy and it has a bit of a refuge atmosphere which turns one 's stay into a special event... so thanks for apreciating it!

The Chalet has very friendly owners, a great atmosphere, good rooms and delicious homemade local food. It's only a ten minute walk to the lifts, a small shopping mall is nearby and it is very close to the cosy little village which has some nice pubs.

Don't expect luxury and 4 star facilities. Go for excellent cooking, hospitality and human scale. Excellent location and 5 minutes walk to ski lifts. Rooms are basic but very clean and cosy. And the owners know the mountains!

Found Chalet des Touristes last year and returned for a full week stay this year. Marie Noelle and Vincent are wonderful hosts, genial, kind and caring, and full of local knowledge. Rooms are cozy and comfortable; the food is terrific. Very reasonably priced. We'll be back again and again.

Marie and Vincent are excellent hosts. The half-board service is wonderful. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious and nourishing before and after a day on the slopes. We really appreciated the homemade, traditional style of the food and the chalet itself. To give you an idea they made the fruit preserves served at breakfast from berries they harvested in the autumn in the mountains. Sharing meals with the other guests at the great table, we made a few friends along the way. We would be more than happy to stay here again.

On the first night there was an issue with the heating system so check-in was a bit chaotic. It was not a big issue for us and we respect the way they handled it considering the nearest repair service was many kilometers away over the mountain pass. By the next morning everything was sorted and the remainder of the stay was smooth as a downhill green run.

The chalet is an easy ten minute walk to the L'Aravet lifts and even closer to the Villenueve village with rental shops, etc.

The rooms themselves are not large. However, considering that the chalet has a a dining room plus a salon that were always available to relax in, this was no issue. I cannot overstate how nice it was knowing that after a long day on the slopes a warm, delicious meal would be ready for us at 'home'.

So much more than a friendly hotel with great food - a top place to stay for serious mountain enthusiasts as well.

The owners/hosts include a high mountain guide with over 40 years experience, a 3rd generation local, who also operated regular trips to the Himalayas and South America.

Also a climbing professional who qualified in the UK, training/working with Eric Jones and Leo Dickinson, plus many years of operating local hiking tours. A wealth of information, from local mountain history to international adventures, from conversation to a well-stocked library, gives an insight to traditional mountain culture.

For best value accommodation and guiding packages (ski-touring or off-piste/powder) contact them directly, as accommodation booked separately does not give discount on the guiding prices. Well worth the 1 day guiding (ideal 1st introduction for intermediate skiers to touring/off-piste, suited to age & abilities).

Thank you Vincent & Marie-No for an excellent week, we will be back to do La Grave with you later in the season.

Chalet des Touristes is a cozy small hotel with conveniently located in La Salle les Alpes within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, and the Aravet ski lift. Our room was very clean with a beautiful view across the river to the mountains. Vincent and Marie Noelle are kind, knowledgeable, generous, and fantastic cooks. As one of my companions has already noted on this site, we were without our baggage for several days, and our hosts loaned us all the clothes we needed to enjoy some skiing while we waited for our baggage. Because of the baggage fiasco, we spent four days here instead of the one night we planned, and we ended up being thrilled to do so. A lost baggage incident could not have turned out better. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for 1 night in order to pick up our son from his ski trip. Our room was very comfortable and the owners were very warm and welcoming. We were late arriving and they waited to cook for us when we arrived. The food was delicious and we felt at home. I would definitely stay again.
