we liked the parador, it offers the regular parador characteristics: space, good service, great location. add an in-house restaurant promoting local ingredients, a small but great pool and a central location and you have the complete package.
Beautiful building (old convent) but lacks the attention to detail and charm of other Paradores, food offer outside kitchen opening hours (most of the afternoon) is restricted to chips and olives... checkin and cafeteria staff were great though
I can never remember commencing a review with tips on how to find the Hotel by car, but as travellers may have gathered from other reviewers and as was confirmed by my own experience and by other guests, locating the Parador in the maze of narrow, steep cobbled one-way streets can be a major challenge...even with SatNav! The problems are exacerbated by the lack of any signs (with one exception) to hotels in Trujillo, apparently due to a ban imposed by the local Council. My best tip on arriving in Trujillo is to head up the hill following the signs to the Plaza Mayor and diagonally opposite in the right-hand corner of the Plaza near the unmistakable Iglesia de San Martin you will see a small yellow sign (the only one!) for the Parador. Follow this direction and eventually you will find the building, but note that the parking is at the rear and not near the main entrance. Entry to the Hotel from the exterior secure parking is via the interior car park- push the intercom button to gain admission. The Parador is charmingly located in a former 16th c. convent with spacious courtyards, including one adjacent to the restaurant (reviewed separately) and bar, where drinks or meals can be enjoyed in the evenings. The building has been tastefully modernised and facilities include a small pool and adjacent garden area with seating. The Hotel is located in the heart of the Zona Monumental and the Plaza Mayor is a winding 10+-minute walk from the main entrance. Our room and the bathroom were both spacious and well-equipped, including a large TV (unfortunately with only 2 English language business channels!), a room-safe and a mini-bar (albeit mainly stocked with soft-drinks and water). There was a reasonable supply of toiletry items and the storage facilities for clothes, cases, etc, were generous. Thankfully, as our 3-night stay was in July, the air-conditioning was very effective. We found the staff throughout from Reception, Restaurant/Bar and cleaners to be friendly, professional and efficient, although some knowledge of Spanish certainly helped. Thanks are due to the cleaners, as our room and the Parador itself were kept in immaculate condition. Definitely recommended when staying in the historical, charming city of Trujillo.…
This is a very good parador. We booked a superior room which was spacious, cool, quiet and very comfortable. Nespresso machine in room. We found the staff to be very friendly. Really good choice at breakfast including eggs Benedict made to order. Trujillo has a castle, well worth the walk up for the views. Plaza mayor has bars and restaurants, the main place to eat. Would visit again and stay at this parador. There is parking outside or in the garage.…
A distinctive location. and an interesting building. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evening . The town of Trujillo was interesting. I would recommend a guided tour round Trujillo. We hired a radio guide which suited us . We were able to go at our own pace.
