As usual, the Parador delivers. The staff are friendly, the rooms are top-notch and the building (monastery) would be an important historic monument in most countries. However, the breakfast is not what you would expect for a hotel of this category or the price (16 euros a head). It is NOT a buffet and the selection of food you are offered is more akin to a budget hotel. I understand that measure have had to be taken because of the pandemic, but that does not mean the hotel can lower considerably the breakfast standards and charge the same. If you cannot deliver, then adjust. That's called good management and class.
We spent a very comfortable weekend in the Parador of Trujillo. The rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms - with plenty of (very) hot water! Great breakfast, lovely old building and very efficient and friendly service! WARNING: don't use Google Maps or Waze to drive to the hotel ... it's a nightmare, as the route takes you through really narrow streets. 'Phone the hotel first and ask for directions, as there is a really simple, trouble-free way of getting to the hotel in a flash!
Beautiful place, a XVI century monastery. During our stay we had fantastic breakfast, plenty of choice for all tastes, cold and hot. Selection of Spanish ham, chorizo and cured meats, local cheeses, tortillas, fresh fruit, home made pastries, brut and sweet wines and more... everything was there. Dinner was a very enjoyable experience as well, prime quality food, nice presentation, excellent service. Room and bathroom were clean and spacious with lovely furniture. Staff always polite, professional and always made eye contact.
The parador at Truijillo is located in a former convent inside the old section of town. From the moment you step through the door, you're in another world. Our room was in the old convent section (there is a modern addition also) and was beautifully redone and luxuriously comfortable. There is free, on-street parking by the side of the building and this was very convenient for us since walking through the narrow, picturesque and winding streets of the old town gives you much more of an intense historical experience than trying to drive through. The parador lounge, patio, breakfast room and hallways were restored in an elegant mix of both modern and antique furnishings and artifacts and were spotlessly maintained. The breakfast buffet was lavish with regional specialities, eggs to order, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, fruits and fruit juices, cereals, different types of coffees and teas, even wine. The staff was helpful, courteous and professional. A wonderful way to visit Trujillo and get a sense of what it must have been like at the height of it's glory in the time of the Pizarros and the other conquistadors.…
The Parador is a converted convent. It has been renovated into a luxurious, beautiful hotel. The check-in at the reception was very friendly and efficient by Jorge … He brought our luggage within 5 minutes to our room. The room and bathroom are spacious, clean and renovated in a fantastic way. We found some nice attentions. Very much appreciated. Just one remark: cookies and nuts were uncovered, so we did not eat it. A pity. One point of attention: the mattresses are very hard. After the first night the reception offered a great solution for this problem: on top of the mattress a so-called “topper”. Problem completely solved. A compliment for Luisa Moreno. The restaurant has a very extensive menu for food and wine. The kitchen is very good. Staff is friendly and efficient. Without compromising his colleagues, a big compliment for Virgilio Dominguez. Room service is fast with a very good quality. WiFi connection in the room is great. Our stay in this Parador was our second one. With our first stay in 2002 we experienced a very bad experience in many ways. The experience with the current atmosphere and setting was totally the opposite. Bravo, we enjoyed our second stay as “Amigos para siempre”! …
