Great concept and cool art but, overall, it was a bit underwhelming and the hipster staff seemed pretty disinterested in their guests. The room was sparse and clean but the communal pool area felt a bit neglected. We really wanted to love the Thunderbird, but the hype didn't really deliver.

I loved the spare decorations, and didn't need a TV or phone in my room - because I was only there to sleep and the bed was very comfortable! So much to do in Marfa. There are only two drawbacks to the Thunderbird, and neither can be helped: the train is very noisy (earplugs are provided in the rooms), and... More

My room was lovely, very sparse and nicely decorated. The whole place had a super cool vibe -- great pool and grounds. BUT...the a/c was so loud that every time it turned on I woke up, and I couldn't sleep with the windows open because there were people hanging out in the courtyard/at the pool. There was no coffee machine... More

I had heard about the Thunderbird from friends visiting Marfa and was eager to give it a try. Couldn't have been more disappointed. First, there was no staff anywhere, and the hotel was occupied that weekend with obnoxious guests in town for a wedding. Housekeeping did a poor job keeping the common area clean . . . empty beer bottles,... More

The pictures are what you get! A no frills, no service hotel for sure! I arrived late after 5 as was the plan. Picked up keys a Capri across street check ID and got keys. As I said what you see is what you get! Pillows were not very good and the mattress provided no support. Was a clean Room!... More

Travelled to Marfa for a wedding and this hotel was recommended by a friend who had previously visited. What a great find! The owners converted a mid-century motor-court motel into a hip, Texas-centric hotel that is comfortable and well appointed. If your inner-bougie is craving hand stirred cocktail and kale salad, than walk on over to The Thunderbird's Bar called... More

Right on main street. The remodel seemed a bit "minimalist." Pool area was welcoming. No tv. Sheets were not clean. Only one pillow each. Needed towels. For the price not worth it. Would drive to Alpine. Restaurant across the street was fabulous.

Monday 6pm arrival, and we found nobody anywhere - the place deserted. Random Guy on the street told us where to park (not marked, along a side area) and to look in the little white box left of the locked office door, that they leave after-hours keys in there. Sure enough our keys were in there, however what if Random... More

Marfa is a place like nowhere else - needs to be experienced to be believed. Not the place to research online, and the staff at the Thunderbird don't really go in for e-mail responses or suchlike....use the phone! The hotel is very cool - an old motel set around a landscaped courtyard with a pool and lovely seating areas. Cool,... More

Very nice minimalist hotel. The service was very attentive from all the staff. Rooms are very spacious and very interestingly decorated, with a combination of local art and some hipster details. Bathroom is also spacious and with all the amenities.
