My wife and i stayed at la delphina from the 17th to the 27th of Feb. We were made to feel at home from the time we arrived. It was a little bit more layed back then our usual vacations but once i got used to it i loved it. It was so relaxing listening to the ocean at night. We made the mistake of staying up pretty late the night before we went white water rafting but we made it ok and had a great time. The zipline the snorkling trip and the white water rafting was very well done for a very reasonable price booked through Richard. I had my 60th .birthday well i was there. The girls that worked there spelled happy birthday in flower petals on my bed,it was a surprise .I also had a birthday cake while i was there. Richard introduced me to a honduras custom of spreading frosting al over my face.I haven't been able to find anything about this custom on the internet but i guess i just haven't found it yet right Richard? Any ways i would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a very relaxing vacation with a great host.Richard you and the girls take care and i will be getting in touch with you about staying there in the future. your new friends Ray and Bonnie White

If you love the seaside, and, like me, can spend hours watching the rolling waves, this is the place for you! The terrace on the beach is heaven ... sit in a rocking chair, nursing a cocktail and watch the pelicans - and the Honduran children - fishing.

This is more of a "British" beach, if you see what I mean. As the sea is choppier here, you don't always get the turquoise of the islands. But it's fantastic, nonetheless.

Richard is the perfect host - welcoming you on arrival, chatting at the bar, booking trips and making recommendations. He goes out of his way to ensure you enjoy your stay. Nothing is too much trouble. And booking the trips, as to Cayas Cachinos, are far cheaper via Richard than via some of the nearby posh hotels - $45 compared with up to $180. Plus, the boat picks you up from the beach right outside the B&B.

I went on the zipwire and hot springs trip ($45) which was huge fun. Again I was picked up from the hotel.

Richard took us to La Ceiba airport at the end of our stay, for a very reasonable $25.

Our room was very nice indeed ... bright and colourful, and "the girls" had put towels and flowers on the beds. The bathroom was huge - shower only, no bath though. All very clean. Don't expect the facilities of a 5* hotel here, though ... the furniture is a bit rustic ... but I really liked it, and believe me, I do love my comforts.

We enjoyed the bar, and the bar menu. The plates are HUGE, so very good value.

Some people might be put off by La Delphina being about 15 minutes' drive from La Ceiba, and then down a rutted sideroad down to the beach. But why stay in dirty old La Ceiba, when you can stay on the beach, in the fresh air, and all the trips come to you cut-price?

I absolutely loved La Delphina - I wanted to stay much, much longer, just to enjoy the beach terrace, the pool and the excellent pina coladas!

PS don't worry about the construction work - Richard will stop the work while you're there if you wish.

I am a single woman who stayed at La Delphina for four days after finishing a medical mission in the interior of Honduras. Owner and gracious host, Richard, took perfect care of me - from welcoming me and asking me to consider his B&B as my home, to helping me with planning activities, driving me around to get to the nearby hot springs, and river rafting and which are all centrally located to his place, to preparing delicious meals which sometimes were off menu, and going the extra distance to see that I was comfortable and happy. Richard and Kelly did this for all their guests. La Delphina is right on the beach which made for some great long walks and afterwards I could swim in the ocean or his pool. I come to Honduras every year and I plan on returning to La Delphina.

The hotel itself is great, nice accomadations, reasonable price (for US standards), beachfront, and pool. But the owner, Richard who runs the hotel is horrible. He is manipulative and sneaky. My group had 2 items stolen out of our rooms during our stay (cash and a cell phone), as well as numerous headaches with his ever changing policies and scams to suck all the money out of you. Its a shame for such a nice place.

Response from mian5878, owner at La Delphina Bed And Breakfast Bar And Grill

Hi my name Richard the owner of the La dalphina Bed and Breakfast in Honduras. I’m sorry that it took some time to answer Mr. Erfe11890 review. Really been crazy with friends from Canada and the States. Mr. Erfe11890 group consisted of 15 young people’s from the age of 17 and 19, LA Dalphina was approach by Helping Honduras kids which is a nonprofit origination in Honduras to accommodate this grope of young people. La Delphina consist of 6 rooms, for 15 young people, we had to hire more staff and buy some more beds I pick up and drop off these kids from the airport at two o’clock in the morning two hours away just to accommodate the group at below cost, my staff and I always put our guest safety first , to do that sometime you have to say no. I been working with this and many others origination since we open. We have set up many events at the dalphina for the origination and there volunteers at and below cost, we allowed the kids to come and swim at the pool at no cost, I understand the sanative nature of young people being away from home is hard, so on thanksgiving we have a dinner for them. We here at the La Delphina have worked with many origination in Honduras with no complain. My staff and I treat everyone with the utmost respect and we have never had anyone complain that something was stolen or missing from La Delphina. Any questions about me go to tripeadvisor and type Richard from Boston or the Delphina in Honduras that will speak for it self.

Located 30 minutes from town, there are no convenience stores or restaurants within walking distance other than the hotel. Sandflies and mosquitos are on par with Utila and among the worst I've ever seen. Meals are decent, but all have similar sides; rice and beans, plantain chips, and boiled carrots/zucchini. No salad was available during our stay as they were out of lettuce. Rooms were comfortable, but renovations were ongoing. Expect power outages in the rainy season as with most of honduras. We had them book a tour for us, but the driver took us to the wrong company. It wasn't an issue as it was low season, but still annoying.

This place is amazing. I felt I was staying in my own house. Is safe, sparkling clean, my bedroom had a phenomenal view, the food was fresh and very good. The owner very friendly and welcoming. So much to do and so little time. I definitely will visit again. I highly recommend La Delphina.

Due to airline delays, we arrived after the kitchen was closed. Nevertheless, the owner, Richard, and his chef, Mia, came to our rescue. Mia re-opened the kitchen and made us delicious hamburgers. That’s the way our week at La Delphina went. We were taken care of – all we needed to do was ask.
The hotel is located 20 minutes east of La Ceiba in the very safe little village of Granadita. It is right on the beach and the water is wonderful. If you are an independent traveler who is looking for a place to quietly relax, La Delphina is perfect. If you want late night partying, La Delphina is not. That is not to say that there is nothing to do. They will arrange trips to Cayos Cochinos or, white-water rafting, or hot springs or zip lines, bird-watching, scuba diving, etc.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. The hotel is small and the furnishings are basic, but we had a wonderful time and are planning to go back next Spring.
I have stayed in small hotels all over the Caribbean over the last 33 years and I have never found a nicer, small beachfront hotel, anywhere for the price that La Delphina charges.

Room was clean and comfortable. We were even upgraded. The place was empty other then ourselves and one other person. We arrived late and hungry. It was difficult communicating with the waitress, she only spoke spanish, but we managed, without the help of the owner... who was sitting nearby and spoke english and spanish and who knew we didn't speak spanish. The food was good but we waited an 1 1/2 hours before being able to eat. If we could have been able to communicate with the staff things probably would have been better. So... nice place but I suggest knowing spanish...

This location is absolutely incredible. The hotel setting is right on the beach and the ambience is one of a kind. The bar and pool area are unique and the food is FANTASTIC. the chicken wings are delicious, the seafood platter was mouth watering, and the beef Kabobs were yummy. Although we did not stay here (we were at Palma Resort down the beach) we spent 3 days of our vacation enjoying this one of a kind location. Richard, the host, is the best damn guy you can ever meet. Should also mention that Alex the tour guide for the snorkel adventure is beyond helpful as well. If you are ever in Sambo Creek Honduras, this location is a must for a day of fun, great food, and superb service. See you in December 2017. From crazy canadians....

My husband and I ended up staying one night at La Delphina due to the ferry out to Utilia not operating due to weather. Richard was a wonderful host. His hotel is clean and cozy. Because there wasn't much to do because of the rain he even took 5 of us staying at the hotel into town to visit the mall to kill time. We really enjoyed visiting with Richard. Dinner was so good - we highly recommend the hot wings if you like spicy food! The rest of the staff at La Delphina was very friendly too. Richard arranged for us to go on a nearby zip line tour and made that process very easy. The wi-fi worked great as did the hot water (not always the case at some places in Honduras!)

Is there cable in the room and how far is the ferry to West Bay.
Answer from main5878
La Ceiba, Honduras5 contributions
yes there is cable, and the ferry to Rotan is about 25 min from the hotel thank you Don’t Get rip off Hi, I'm the owner of a hotel in Honduras, La Ceiba, La Delphina Bed and breakfast Bar and Grill hotel. I'm here to inform you of a scam that going on in La Ceiba with the taxis. Some hotel, hostels are paying commission to the taxis to take you to their hotel. What happens that once you get off the bus, ferry or airport they rush and take your bags and next thing it's in a taxis, then they tell you how dangerous it is, that it’s far from where you’re going take you to a hotel that pay them commission, The taxis charge so when you find out that you’re at the wrong Hotel you have to pay for another taxis to take you to right hotel. The hotel is in the scam, they tell you that you are the right place and if not they will give you a better price then the hotel you reserved so you pay twice. The hotel you reserved and the new hotel. A perfect example, you make a reservation at the hotel La Delphina bed and Breakfast Bar and Grill one of best hotel in La Ceiba, we don't pay commission. Our good service is all we need. Then the taxis will try to take you to hotel like Delfin sound like it, but it not, make sure you tell them, la Delphina, the other hotel will try to tell you that you are at the right place, and they will give you better price so before you move and get into the taxis make sure he or she knows where they going and how much $15.00 or 300 LP from anywhere in La Ceiba to La Delphina make sure before he or she moves, that the you everything work out before you get in the taxis the price if not get another taxis. Call or email the hotel and let them know you need a taxis or a ride most hotel have their bus or taxis that will pick you up. For La Delphina 504-9936-7715 or email at . We have our own taxis that work for the Hotel, we will pick you up from San Pedro Sula or any ware in La Ceiba. Do not get scam.
