We stayed in Annie's Suite at the Austin Street Retreat for two nights in early May. It's a two-room cottage with a very comfortable king bed in the large front room. The pictures of the bathroom are accurate. But while we enjoyed our stay, as 80-year olds we found the bathroom/ kitchen area to be a bit challenging because of...

Four of us stayed in Maria's Cottage, a 2 bedroom cabin-like building that has 2 queen beds. We parked for free on the street right in front of the cottage. An easy walk to the west end of Main Street. The kitchenette with a fridge & microwave is nice. The bathtub is huge (no shower stall) & in a separate...

We stayed in the Kristen. It had one huge room which consisted of a sitting area with couch, TV and fireplace. A king size bed was on the other end with another little sitting area. There was a separate small dining area in the entrance hall which included a table for two, a small sink, a small refrigerator and microwave....

While reseaching lodging in Fredericksburg, my grandson spotted Maria's cabin and said"That's it, that's my room"! While there was less expensive lodging nearby, this retreat provides an "old days" experience. The 1800's cabin provides a rare opportunity to stay where a real pioneer family lived. The log home, has been updated enough to have our creature comforts. The kitchen area...

Loved our visit to El Jefe! Enjoyed listening to the fountain in the little courtyard! The upstairs bath area is extra special! The Austin Street Retreat grounds are beautiful and quiet! Look forward to coming back!

Have enjoyed staying in Kristin's room on previous visits. Maria's room was just as wonderful last night. Rooms are clean and charming. The outdoor patios are private and delightful. Great location near town. It is a good idea to check on the cleanliness of the other properties in town before you accept a room.

Loved it here! So much prettier than pictures. Rooms were well stocked with coffee/creamer/sugar/tea/glassware/fridge/cutlery, etc. Breakfast vouchers for $7 with 4 restaurants to choose from. Super comfy beds and nice quality linens. Even a flashlight by the bed. Suites and courtyards are much better in person somehow. Maybe they can't capture the beauty of the valuted/beamed ceilings? Others have described...

My friend and I chose this guest house for our 3rd annual "get away from March Madness" girl's getaway. We stayed in Annie's Cabin. It was a great location, close to everything yet quiet. Truly a retreat. We picked Annie's cabin because it had a shower in addition to a garden tub. It was nice having a space with a...

Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our stay at Maria's room at Austin Street Retreat. So quaint and well appointed. Roomy and very clean. Yes, street noise is a little loud but I sleep with ear plugs so didn't bother me. Back patio is cute and cozy. Kitchenette is convenient. Beds are comfy. Comes with $7 coupon per person...

This is a collection of separate cabins only a block away from Main St: close to the action without the noise. My cabin, Eli's was nestled behind an ivy wall with swing under a vine covered arbor. The room was large, bed was super comfortable with crisp linens. Large, oversized chair near the fire place. Wood, kindling and matches are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Austin Street Retreat continues to be one of the most frequently photographed homes in Fredericksburg. Its fachwerk log cabin and limestone walls manifest the pioneer building techniques that make the pre-Victorian architecture of Fredericksburg so enduring and pleasing. With an eye for premium quality including fine linens, superior quality whirlpools and elegant appointments, the Retreat has grown to five suites each with a private terrace. The yard is beautifully kept and includes many perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg’s National Historic District, this is a premier property. The immigrant heritage and a European sense of style are a natural combination which provide a truly personal “Retreat” in the Hill Country. Luxury, grace, privacy. ... more   less

“stayed in El Jefe room. Cute little patio out front, but not big enough to sit outside at. Loved the whirlpool tub upstairs, I was disappointed with the upstairs mirror. You couldn't see into it because it was old glass. Great antique, but poor for usefulness.”
