We are regular day trippers to Caloundra.
This was our first time staying a few nights.
We love Caloundra, great place, hotel is in good position, you don’t need to go far to get good coffee, nice choice of cafes etc.
Check in
We were early, room not ready which is fine.
We went to beach and came back at 1.30pm, still not ready, that’s ok, we waited
The girl at reception seemed to be preoccupied with the notifications on her ph ( May be work related) and often had earphones in.
Anyway while she wasn’t interested in talking we said at 1.50pm can you check us in so we are ready at 2pm to go to our room.
She obliged.
Got to our room at 2 and the floor was wet, just been mopped.
No door open or aircon on to dry it quicker. So before moving in we did that as we didn’t want to dirty on a wet floor at the start of our stay.

Appartment was a good size and good value
Just missing a few comforts and practicalities.

No TV in bedroom ( was pictured to have a tv in room for 1 bedroom appartment.
We were actually tossing up between studio or 1 bedroom, and we went for 1 bd as there was still a tv ( pictured) in room.

So no tv in room, In spacious lounge dining area there was a 2 seater lounge, it just wasn’t cosy.
Even a rug on the tiled floor would have made it a bit more comfortable .

Then on the veranda, the aircon unit blew hot air on you, even when aircon was off .

Our room could do with block out blinds as lighter slat blinds don’t block out the bright street lights.

So a few improvements needed to make it more comfortable.

The girl at reception the first two days was not interested in talking, not welcoming un approachable. My husband made a point of saying hi to her everytime we walked in, she made an unenthusiastic forced hi back.

Upon check out another lady Karin was onreception, she was lovely and could show the other girl a thing or two about hospitality.

So good value , the breakfast touch is a nice idea, however I would prefer the hotel to be more friendly and comfortable that a $10 breakfast.

The single bedroom studio is a bit narrow but has a good ocean view. It's close to the beach, lots of cafes and a small convenience shop. Although the area is popular, it's peaceful, especially at night. Our room showed signs of erratic maintenance as the phone didn't work, the detergent was only for a dishwasher but there wasn't one and there was only one cup in the kitchenette. The staff were helpful though when we told them and the choice of 4 local cafes for the breakfast included in the deal was very good..

I went for a short getaway with my mother to ULTIQA Shearwater. We were met with friendly staff at the hotel who were extremely accomodating by ringing us when our room was ready so we could check in earlier. This was greatly appreciated.
We requested an ocean view room in advance and our request was met. We were on level 6 in what looked like a newly refurbished room. The room was clean and comfortable with an outstanding view!!
The breakfast included is only a small amount of options but I think the meals it’s self are generous and had a good range.

We really enjoyed our stay and would come again. . The staff were wonderful, the room was great and the location was outstanding.

The problem with this hotel is not the ground staff but management in head office. Nothing will be done by them to make things right. I purchased the 2 bedroom unit with one bathroom which online provided a photo of an ocean view. However when I turned up I was informed we had level one next to the pool unit 12. We were 3 mums checking in for a rest break from kids, and we were Gobsmacked to hear not only were we next to the pool but also on level 1 with no ocean view. The ground staff at the accommodation were very helpful and moved us to unit 7 which apparently was the only other unit available. However unit 7 also did not have any view of the ocean either as was disclosed online. When booking the accommodation the only pictures presented online are the ones with an ocean view. See my photos in this review, What was presented online I believe, is deceptive and misleading, #ACCC take note. In addition the unit we did take, unit 7 had the following issues:

1. The room with twin beds, the door did not shut without moving the bed.
2. broken light fitting in cupboard which is dangerous
3. filthy as many flies on ground by lamp in living room
4. air ventilator did not work in bathroom
5. underwear and clothing on ground outside patio
6. One bedroom was extremely hot. It has no aircon. One of the mums could not sleep due to the heat and therefore needed to take sleeping tablets to have one night of full sleep.

By way of comparison my friend booked accommodation for the same period at 35 Canberra heights 2 bed/ 2 bath laundry and this place has actual views of the ocean! The facilities in the apartment were high end. They provided early check in and gave 2 Caloundra stubby coolers as a gift for staying. The cost for this place was $550. If we had known the accomodation we were obtaining from Ultiqa was not represented accurately online then we would have chosen this place.

I furthermore followed up with management in head office to which they justified their misleading and deceptive advertising by stating we should be "requesting" an ocean view. Sorry but no where on the website does it state you must request an ocean view and the marketing photo is not correct!

I just want to reiterate the ground staff were lovely and tried to make the best of a terrible situation. They did provide a bottle of wine to try to make up for it. But really we wanted the ocean view we paid for. The problem with this company is lack of any customer focus and terrible customer experience through head office and management decisions. Therefore you have NO chance of getting a good experience if they do something awful like give you a downgraded room. There is LOTS of great accomodation in Kings Beach. Stay ANYWHERE but here!

Not happy with the false advertising that was given to us. Our accommodation stated that “a good breakfast was included in the price”. When we went for our first morning of breakfast, we discovered 3 out of the 4 restaurants are shut for breakfast and the only one opened only offered us a $6/person voucher. Which means we were left paying a further $28 for a family of 4 for our breakfast. This is NOT breakfast included and not happy about the false advertising. Staying for 4 nights means an added cost for 4 mornings we didn’t allow for. Disappointed ☹️

My partner and I stayed on Saturday night and it was our first hotel experience as a couple without the kids.
The phone was broken and we were unable to access full services offered on the smart t.v. despite multiple attempts.
To add to those issues, our view consisted of a restaurant roof littered with cigarette butts and an old beach towel.
We had to use our personal mobile phones to contact the hotel to discuss issues as no staff were on site.
During our first call we were mid way through speaking to a lady who clearly wasn’t able or overly interested in assisting us and the line suddenly went dead.
We called back and were answered by a much friendlier lady who tried (unsuccessfully) to assist us with the t.v issues but stated that she would send through a maintenance request regarding the room phone.
I sent an email to management later that night in hopes to address these issues and was told by the receptionist during check-out that the manage would be in on Monday (today) but we have not received a response.

For close to $200 per night you can enjoy a room at Ultiqa with a view looking at a roof, not the lovely ocean views they claim in their marketing of the property. This hotel should be more transparent when you make a booking and not be deceitful and take your money for a sub-standard room. There are better alternate places to stay for the same price and I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel.

This facility is not a resort but rather a big building comprising apartments, units, suites owned by individuals, not ULTIQA Shearwater. Some apartments, especially 5/44 do not resemble the images on the official website nor brochures advertising the facility - in fact 5/44, from our recent experience comprises furnishings and fittings that gave every appearance of having been sourced from the local tip shop.

Mould around the fridge door seals, a broken and dangerous swivel chair at the breakfast bar, old wooden blinds, one of which was broken, let in day and night light, large piece of ceiling cornice previously dislodged and located in the cupboard below and the audio for the television in the main room was so bad we could not sit and watch it.

Our complaints to management and ULTIQA Lifestyle have not gone unanswered. The new manager has assured us he/she is undertaking an audit of all rooms and has apparently passed on our concerns to the apartment owner.

We didn't know about the ownership status of the apartments until we raised an issue with reception early on in our stay. It seemed that issues had to be passed on to the owner which meant issues wouldn't be resolved in a timely manner. All our concerns were raised upon checking out after our week long stay.

Hopefully our efforts towards some form of redress from ULTIQA Shearwater will not go unanswered in the long term.

There was, however, a redeeming feature regarding 5/44 - the view from the balcony of Kings Beach and surrounds was second to none.

First impressions count so they say.
Unfortunately our after hours arrival showed how true that is. We had advised the property during business hours that we would not be checking in until mid evening. We had endeavoured to use the after hours checkin link, but that didn’t work, we kept going round in circles.
So we followed the “on arrival use the intercom to connect with after hours checkin staff”.
This we did, the customer service person had a few attempts to remotely open the door to allow access to the key safe in the lobby. Once access was achieved, the envelope with access cards, room number and parking instructions was obtained. We were asked to open a door on the left of the main door, there was no card scanner there, it was an emergency exit. The logic around opening the emergency exit failed us, so we abandoned that. We asked for directions for the car park entry but our customer service person was not able assist. So, we went through the checkin envelope information and found the car park entrance at the rear of the building. This checkin process probably took 20 minutes.
The room was clean, compact, with a comfortable bed and a modern bathroom. The shower/bath had very high sides so probably not easy for guests with mobility issues or for families with small children.
Great view over the beach, and a good location.
Breakfast at a local cafe was included and this was quite adequate with a small but varied choice of dishes. The pool and spa was clean and well maintained. Complimentary pool towels would have been nice.

We stayed late January. This venue has individually owned apartments so I imagine the quality would vary from room to room. Staff were friendly and courteous. Room was dated, but acceptable. We had two balconies, this room was a two bedroom unit. The dining / living had a split system in it as did the master bedroom. The second bedroom (two single beds) did not have any cooling which was a little problematic.

There are a couple of pubs in very close proximity - the Kings Beach Tavern and the Caloundra Surf Club - literally 2 minutes away. There are a couple of nice breakfast/lunch/dinner and drink venues a few minutes walk south - Coffee Cat and Kings Beach Beach Bar. Highly recommended.

There is a fish and chip shop and Italian restaurant incorporated into the building.

The pool is nice and protected from the wind and in the afternoon is in full shade for those of us who burn easy.

Beach is very close by.

If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet time at the beach, not a bad spot for it. If you are looking for close access to multiple shops and lots of dining options, this may not be the place for you.

To clarify my review I thought the bathroom was fine. My wife on the other hand said really, picked up a tissue and rubbed it on the tiles in the hall and it was pure black. I said oh yeah that's gross. Then I noticed yeah they are sticky. She's a bit OCD clean person, I'm like oblivious. She was right though, and she didn't go barefoot in the bathroom or anywhere even used shower jangles.

Hi Our 1 bedroom apartment has a full kitchen and small lounge and dinning and you would need to order a roll away for your child to stay as the max we can have in a 1 bedroom would be 3 guests.
