We are traveling on a road trip with our Golden pup. Hillside was a good choice to stay with our pup. The room is very nice, the bathroom area is separate from sleeping area, and our room had a nice balcony. There is a large grass area near the pool where I was able to walk our pup. She got the zoomies while we walked about in the lower grass area. The pool looked great and the grass area looked like a beautiful area for a wedding. The staff was friendly. Very comfortable bed, we had a great night sleep before heading back on the road. When checking out they had fresh coffee and tea available in the lobby. I am not able to review the restaurant or the spa, as we didn't utilize them. I would recommend a stay at Hillside and if we were able to stay longer we would have. 😀

The two of us had been camping in the hill country, but the weather wasn't great, so we decided to head home. We went through Castroville on purpose because of Haby's Bakery and figured we'd find a hotel for the night. Well, there are no chain hotels in Castroville--only Hillside Inn.
We took a chance, and were impressed with such great accommodations in that small town! Perched on a hill overlooking the Medina River Valley, the boutique hotel features three buildings of rooms as well as a bistro, a spa and a party venue with an inviting pool. Nicely decorated, I could see why someone would choose to hold their event there. The manager obviously had customer service as a priority as she and the desk clerk worked through their reservation system glitch to get us a room. We felt welcomed and valued.
What we noticed about the room were the upscale furnishings and the large balcony with two lounge chairs where we watched the sunset. A large bathroom with separate toilet had boutique shower supplies and soft, ample towels which added to the special feeling. The bed was comfy as well as attractive.
We realized we made the right choice to dine at the bistro when the plentiful portions of perfectly cooked chicken fried steak came out, along with a huge kale and golden raisin salad we ordered. The weather was perfect for patio dining and the servers were appropriately attentive. What had been a somewhat disappointing camping trip turned into a memorable stay at the Hillside Inn, now one of our favorite accommodations on the edge of the hill country.

Hillside has many things going for it—a beautiful location with really nice outdoor spaces to enjoy, a lovely pool area when the season calls for it, friendly and helpful staff, and comfortable, appropriate furnishings. In my opinion the best thing at Hillside is the Bistro. It is a beautiful facility with competent staff and delicious food and beverages. The efforts to update the decor of the entire place are to be commended; however, it appears that a major flaw has been overlooked. Namely, MOLD/MILDEW. Many small imperfections can be easily compensated by having a sparkling clean bathroom, A/C vents, etc. Humidity and/or leaks must be located and repaired ASAP. To not do so would be very irresponsible for the health of employees and guests and will ultimately hurt the business significantly. Perhaps like so many other businesses right now, Hillside is operating on less than a full staff. That is understandable, but the #1 priority of the existing staff should be eliminating the mold problems. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed our stay and wish to especially thank the front desk clerk who went beyond her normal duties to prepare a comfortable space for us.

The barrel room is closed due to staffing. Bistro had several large cobwebs in dining area, the grand chandelier was covered in cobwebs. Our table was very sticky (all napkins stuck to table). Our room needed updating and a heavy cleaning. Moldy air vents, windows fogged from leak, curtains stained, dirt in corners and under things. The bathroom faucet needed cleaning. Room overall needed a serious deep cleaning. The building exterior needed attention, such as pressure washing, repair rotten wood, and clean parking areas. Palm trees need trimming! Our room had a great view if the plam was not there and overtaking the view. Door to balcony was very dusty around edges. We traveled with friends and their room was the same way with the exception of their bathroom sink was cracked. The pool had green algae on the sides and a slim film over the water. For a boutique hotel with premium pricing, this was very disappointing. I feel like we would have had a cleaner room at a big box brand hotel.

Terrible hotel, don’t waste your time! The sound from the highway kept us up all night. We phoned reception and were offered a white noise machine (they clearly know this is an issue), 50% off that night and to be moved to a quieter room in the morning. The overnight manager had left in the morning and the unhelpful day manager said the offer was no longer valid. We cut our 2 night stay short and would highly recommend you never stay here. This is a motel, not a 4* hotel. Truly terrible!

Our stay at the Hillside Boutique Hotel could not have been better. The hotel staff went above and beyond accommodating our needs (as we needed a handicap room)! The room was beautiful and offered a great view (especially seeing the Fourth of July fireworks).

We have stayed here a couple of different times now. First, the view from the deck is just awesome and should be enjoyed with a cold beverage around sundown. Second, the customer service from Aurelio and his staff is some of the best we have experienced. They will go out of their way to make satisfy you if they can (and you ask - hotel staff can' read your minds or control other customers). Third, The food has improved from the first time we stayed and there seems to be an ongoing effort to make the hotel a destination rather than just a place to sleep. Last, If they made a little effort to update the rooms or provide more quality on-site entertainment like the beer tasting we saw recently, the value for our stay would be more in line with some of the higher end hotels in the SA area.
We are looking forward to the continued improvements and plan to return soon.

Rooms are nice and our had a great view of the Medina Valley. Staff is polite and the restaurant serves good food and has a very good wait staff. I am only giving 3 stars because the bottom sheet on both sides of the bed, mine and my wife's did not fit the deep mattress and the sheet would not stay on the bed by the headboard. Also, the sheet had some dried stained blood or something dark on it in the corner. Also, the room had no kleenex. I think when one pays $250 a night for a room, it ought to have clean sheets that fit. Notwithstanding this, there's not much choice in Castroville, TX.

This was our third visit to HIllside. This time, we attended the South American Wines "Sip and Swirl" and stayed overnight. Our room (426) was very nice and had a great view. We took advantage of their Fall room rates and included two $50 dinner and two $16 breakfast credits. We decided to dine before drinking and had a 5pm dinner. James was our server and did a grand job of pacing the meal. The Pork Belly Bite appetizer was wondrous (again!) and Deb had her usual Taco Flight but I had the Brisket Pot Roast which was pretty much out of this world! We met Butch, the new chef and look forward to some interesting menu changes. The Sip and Swirl was outside and the weather was perfect. Kudos to Screech, who did a great job of looking after us for the tasting. Breakfast was a delight....Becca was our server and is a gem. She is very personable and did a great job keeping our coffee cups full. All the staff, from the front desk to the servers, did an excellent job and we really enjoyed our stay at Hillside.

This is a cute little boutique hotel. I was nervous at first, as the hotel is right off the highway. But the hotel does offer nice views and a cute pool. The pool isn't big, but it's a nice spot to recharge. They had pool service on Friday but not Saturday, or at least nobody was serving out there, which was disappointing.
The rooms were clean and a maid came in the late afternoon to make the bed and give new towels, which other reviews said they didn't do.
One thing about this place is the food. It's incredibly good and fun to sit outside!
It's also pretty close to San Antonio, so you can go into the city for a night.
The spa services were affordable and fun!
Overall, awesome stay and we'll definitely keep on the list
