Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Organized and well maintained tasting room. There is also a cute outdoor area for lunch. Did a quick tasting of 5 bottles. Would recommend their sparkling white and shiraz, as those were favs. You dont need more than an hour here unless staying for lunch.

A very good lunch with some interesting menu choices and flavours. We had some very good Viognier too .Good service and friendly staff. Nice views though we didn’t get a chance to walk around the vineyard. Lovely building steeped in history.

We checked into Belgownie for a good friends wedding. After getting the wedding rate (which was essentially a premium on top of the normal price anyway), we were shocked to find out the the AUD$345 (normally $390) room didn’t come with breakfast - we were advised that it would cost an additional $35pp on top of our room rate for a buffet style breakfast. In many ways, this is yet another example of what is so wrong with the hospitality industry in Australia. Very basic, dated room, mould in the bathroom and no trimmings besides some water. For that price, breakfast should be included at the very least, noting that those ppl who attend weddings/functions there are only using the room out of convenience to get dressed in and save themselves from driving home… Querying of why breakfast wasn’t included was met with a condescending response that frankly wasn’t good enough, yet we’ve come to expect from similar places… For a coffee and some buffet-style eggs/bacon, (both valued significantly under the $35pp we would’ve been charged) this should’ve been included, no question. It was a $220 room, if that. Next time I’ll drive home.

Had been here 12 months ago while they were rebuilding after the fires had damaged their property and had a great experience. We returned again for a 2 night stay while i worked in the area. We stayed in the newly renovated suites and can highly recommend them. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, considering how busy they were, we had an excellent experience, nothing was too much trouble. Restaraunt and wines are excellent, buffet breakfast was great, my wife had a fantastic experience at the spa, while i worked mind you, but we really could not fault the 2 days of relaxation. We highly recommend this fantastic place.

Went to this estate with a wine tour an had lunch with the group. Great food, wine and people. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. Even showed us how to open bubbly with a fancy device. Great experience.

Website advises of luxury accomodation and the room we stayed in certainly was not. Small, not clean and our room access key did not work for our entire stay so had to visit reception every time we wanted into our room. They tried new key card and resetting door but nothing worked so we cut our trip short and left after 24 hours. Staff didn't seem to think having no access to room was an issue! Asked to be moved to new room but not available. The restaurant is really good and the meal was delicious but think twice before actually staying here.

The privilege room was good, comfy bed with a good shower and bath. Unfortunately good not book any spa facilities as they were fully booked with staff off sick. Good breakfast selection however restaurant was only average for the evening meal limited selection for gluten free options and poor ambience I would not call this a luxury hotel and slightly overpriced

We stayed in the luxury safari tent for (2) nights and had a wonderful time. Even in the midst of Winter the tent was very warm. With a nice, comfortable bed, great pillows, sizeable room and a view across the vineyards, it was fantastic. The I have to add, the wine tasting experience was fantastic. When we stayed last year the experience was awful, chaotic and unappealing. Balgownie have done a complete 180 here and now it’s a highlight! Good on you for recognising the deficiency, remedying it and delivering a great product. It was truly the highlight for us.

Hav had a couple of excellent experiences at Balgownie previously we chose it again for an outing for lunch. The three course menu was selected. The descriptions were enticing and the meals looked wonderful. Unfortunately all of our meals suffered from a lack of seasoning and textures that just did not seem to match the expectations. French onion soup entree lacked salt, was served with relatively little cheese and accompanied by a pumpernickel style bread. Our shared seafood platter boasted tempura style calamari, skewered grilled prawns ,hapuka and was accompanied by a large amount of tartare sauce some peas, salmon Pattie’s and pickled style cucumber. We ordered triple cooked chips as well. T all looked a great but again demonstrated lack of seasoning and textural incongruity. The best part of the meal was the wine and dessert. Unfortunately, despite the wonderful ambiance and excellent service and views we will remove Balgownie from our list of Yarra Valley haunts.

Would NEVER recommend Balgownie Yarra Glen to any group looking for a conference venue. Once they had the contract signed and money paid (100% prior to conference), any alleged customer service “went out the window”. Extremely disorganised. Their so called “Event Specialist” didn’t seem to know what she was doing. It was as if she had never run an event before. The limited staff on the two days we were there were often at a loss of what to do when things were not as requested or went wrong. Lots of equipment and facilities (including heating in conference area) not in working order. Conference rooms not set up in time for conference start. AV only worked intermittently. Even coffee machines at Breakfast were not working, forcing our delegates to pay $5 to have a coffee made for them. Even after advising dietary requirements/allergies more than two weeks prior in writing, delegates were served dinner meals and morning/afternoon tea and lunch items with the prohibited ingredients in them and not offered any alternatives. No follow up with us post conference which just tells me they don’t care as they know no-one returns. Very overpriced for what was received. Seems like they are running a very “short-term” business model. Overall a low end venue.
