Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I apologize for this delayed review, as we had a fabulous time here! Our Hosts and staff were brilliant and so accommodating from beginning to end! We stayed for a long weekend in September 2023 to accommodate our large family staying for my sons wedding in the area. The accommodation was terrific and catered for all family members with the separate Managers House perfect for families, and the balcony rooms grouped around the upstairs balcony, perfect for chats with a lovely leafy view. The rooms are substantial with lovely outlooks and comfortable beds. The Tower suite has amazing views of the district, over 3 levels! The ambiance of the entire hotel is lovely with amazing decor throughout, and caters to all interests. Whether it be friendly pool competitions in the front bar, afternoon tea in the tea rooms, playground entertainment, watching the footy on the big screen, or watching the world go by from the front balcony. Excellent coffees and fresh pastries were enjoyed with breakfast. Great food and service! A brilliant location in the Yarra Valley!

Beautiful old venue, it was clean and the food was superb. Well presented young staff. Hotel rooms were comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was a bonus! Would absolutely stay again.

Stayed at this heritage listed hotel for five nights and really enjoyed the surroundings. Staff could not have been more helpful, special mention to Joel the Manager. My husband was sick and he went out of his way to help us. Food was tasty pub food and has a great atmosphere, live music on Friday nights. This place has original patina but it's all part of the charm. Central for sightseeing a beautiful area and vineyards.

Very happy with our 1 night stay. We stayed here as we had a wedding at acacia ridge winery which is a 6min drive away. Customer service was wonderful. Room was perfect with all the amenities needed. We even got a continental breakfast which was delicious. Thankyou for a great stay.

The experience could be summed up thus: "let me know when the the establishment is fully renovated, and then being as it may the prices are still the same, I will be back". Our room was of good size, but, we could hear the conversation in the room adjacent, the shower was dangerous to enter and exit, cracked tiles to the entrance to the bathroom, lighting poor and the carpet needed stretching. The off road carpark was a dirt and dusty surface, there was no lighting to the side security entrance after-hours, and the door mat at the side door entrance a ladies heel catcher. The staff and management were very friendly.

$80 for 2 very average pizzas and a serve of Soggy Calamari . $30 for 3 light alcohol drinks. Never again will I enter this dump which used to be a great old pub. Decor very aged and quite hideous. Time for an upgrade and a new chef. Service just ok but what else Would you expect from very inexperienced people

Our large family booked the Grand Hotel for Christmas lunch which was a success. The staff were plentiful and always polite and helpful, considering they were all working on the big day. The lunch was very good and served over a three hour period which was a good idea. The only small thing was the outside eating area was very hot with only one fan available. With young children and head of patrons perhaps next year they could look at that. But all things considered pretty good.

My wife and I took room 4, the tower room and we had a fine time. Room 4 actually consists of four compact rooms on three levels joined by tiny but stable staircases. The bedroom was comfortable but light gets in from a window above the entrance door which was a bit annoying. On weekends traffic noise or pub noise from below may be a problem, indicated by provision of ear plugs. But mid-week there was no problem really despite there being no double glazing. The bathroom has a small bath with shower and was clean and functional, nice fluffy towels. Upstairs the quirkiness kicks in. A small lounge with couch and tv and high bookshelves crammed with quality books. Windows too look out over the town and off to distant mountains. Up another flight is an even more charming room, chandelier-lit with more books. Grab Lionel Shriver, a 1937 first edition gardening book or Joyce’s Ulysses and sit back on one of two comfy lounge chairs and read or take in higher views. If weather permits another staircase leads outside to a top tower viewing position. Staff were friendly and accommodating, a complimentary breakfast downstairs - muesli with stewed rhubarb and fresh yoghurt followed by good lattes - was much appreciated. We would stay again if in the area.
