Thank you Mary and staff at Bentinck for your wonderful hospitality. We were invited to a wedding at Bentinck and decided to book the accommodation at this venue. On our arrival (we were around 15 minutes early).. we were greeted by Mary... She welcomed us like she was welcoming us into her home.... I had to take a step back wondering if I was supposed to KNOW her from somewhere else.... We stated that we were a tad early, but that was no problem, she had the keys ready for us to take our things upstairs to our gorgeous little room. Even asking if we needed help with our bags. Although the rooms are a tad small, everything was in place and very inviting. All spotlessly clean and updated. The bathrooms are a little cosy but ok for one person at a time and that was only a minor thing as the rest of the weekend I have to give a 10 out of 10 (which my partner says is overly generous of me as I am a "critic"). The staff were wonderful and very attentive... Mary was out of this world. I have never met anyone like her in our travels before. So generous and very genuine. The wedding would have to be the best I have ever been to. The food was divine, not like "wedding" food at all. More like one of your top restaurants. Do not know how they cooked all those steaks. They melted in your mouth. The waiters never let your glass go empty and I am glad I stayed over as I would have lost count of the glasses I had consumed. . Although this is a small venue for a wedding, around 80 guests, it was intimate. There was no rush from Mary to finish up for the night (I think 11.30pm). I'm sure we were still all there till around midnight. My partner then wanted a port to end the night. That was no worries. We even asked for a small jug of "fresh milk" to take upstairs for a cup of tea as I noticed the UVF milk in the fridge and they were handed out without a second thought. I always say it is the small things that count on making something special. And Bentink have got it down pat. Breakfast was served downstairs between 8.30am to 9.30am, which I thought may be a bit of a rush especially after the drinking the night before. But to our pleasure, there was no rush and our order for breakfast was taken at our leisure. Plenty to choose from. Thank you again. Still raving about our weekend and it is Thursday. Will definately be making an excuse to get back and do a lovely weekend stay, again.

We stayed here for a Rod Stewart concert at Hanging Rock (which was great by the way). They bused us there, provided a wonderful hamper (although we had to give up our glass orange juice bottles at the gate), made sure we all got home on the bus, and then provided one of the tastiest breakfasts I have ever eaten in a hotel. Being a former old folks home (I think), the room, ensuite and bed were small. However the bar, entertainment area and dining room are really tastefully furnished. They are also keen to please.

Stayed here for a night for a work thing. The service was very friendly and helpful, which was good. The rooms are very small and personality free, but the compensation is the lounge and bar area which has some big comfy chairs and a nice fire. The conference facilities were fine, nothing special but not bad either. Basically it was good without really being great. I would go there again.

We stayed at this property while we were visiting the Victorian Truffle Festival in Trentham. The festival dinner was held at the property, so we decided to stay the night. Unfortunately, while the exterior of the building, the garden and the common areas inside are very attractive, I have rarely been more disappointed with a room. Our first room was absolutely tiny, dark and very cramped. The others we were shown were just as bad, though with better light because they were on the northern side of the building. There wasn't even space for an armchair, let alone a couch. The rooms only had double beds and you still could hardly move around them. My feet hung off the end of the bed and I'm not very tall. The bed had a double doona inside a queen sized doona cover, so part of the doona cover was not filled, and (presumably because of the doona situation) the bed had a tartan woolen blanket (just like from grandmas) under the "not full" doona cover (albeit encased in an additional sheet). The bathroom was so small we couldn't unpack our toiletries and my husband and I could not both be in there at once. Finally, and this is worst sin of all in a hotel - the bed was way too soft, dipped down in the middle, and every time one of us moved, the bed rocked around like we were on the back of a train. Seriously bad. The place is a former "convalescent's hospital" - we were told that this was why the rooms were so small - really like little cells. The problem is, there is no way you can make them acceptable (unless you were to knock a few walls out). I would never go back to this property. Don't even consider it for a conference or a wedding - your guests will think they've been put in nicely decorated prison cells - how depressing.

Comfortable rooms, but we enjoyed the grounds the best. lovely gardens. Breakfast was very good with an made to order omlette for my cholestrol free diet! Staff were helpful and organised our dinner arrangements in the town. Good point to explore the surrounds, Mt macedon and hanging rock.

This hotel /Band B is a very expensive option with great public areas. A beautiful main lobby sitting room with a wood trussed ceiling and large fireplace. it is within a 1 kilometer walk of the quaint town of Woodend. We were part of a group of 6 couples who spend two nights here in late June 2009. The breakfast were good though limited in fruit offerings. The evening dinner was the problem. We orderd the fish and it was the worst we have ever seen..so much so that no one could eat it. We brought this to the attention of the wait staff and to the person handling our check out. The result was indifference to the problem and no offer to make it right.. This type of "no service "is reason enough to consider other options if you travel this this area of Victoria Australia.
