Detailed Reviews

A stay here feels much like you’d imagine it might have back in 1887. And that’s the appeal. In 1887 it was exhausted forestry workers and journeymen tying their horses out front before settling in for a great feed, a cold beer, an open fire, a hot bath, a hearty welcome from the owners, and a night of conversation and laughs with the locals. Today the horses are gone, replaced by bicycles, motorbikes, cars, and well worn hiking boots. The forestry workers are replaced by weary hikers, mountain bikers and day trippers. The food offered now extends to delicious modern Australian and Asian influences. And the Wi-Fi is fast and free.
But sitting on the verandah with a beer, watching the sunset or a storm roll in over the rainforest, you could swear nothing much has changed and easily imagine yourself sitting in just the same spot 130 years ago.
I spent 3 nights treating the Reefton Hotel as a base for hiking, cycling and river swimming. It was perfect. Cabin had a balcony overlooking a bubbling creek whose white noise washed me into deep sleep, and woke me with the sounds of nature at dawn.
The hosts Mark & Raymond serve warm hospitality and friendliness like no other place I’ve stayed or eaten nearby, making this pub feel like home.
Access to a shared kitchen and basic provisions make this ideal for simple self-catering of breakfast and picnic lunches. But eat your dinner at the bar for a chance to chat with the owners and meet some local regulars. The quiet, shady courtyard makes a great spot for reading, an afternoon snooze, or a board game between adventures into the surrounding nature.
Basic, but authentic and cozy. A real treat to stay at.
I’ll be returning, if only to meet again little scottie dog Angus who waddles around the verandahs hoovering up the chips dropped from the tables. Her presence each day adds even more charm to this place.

Had a delicious meal at this beautiful historical hotel. The hosts were welcoming and gracious and made us feel very welcome. A huge heater welcomed us into the bar on this cold but sunny day. Really enjoyed our time at the Reefton Hotel. A beautiful part of the world. We'll be back!

Went for a Saturday drive to this little country pub. Meals prices are reasonable and customer service is excellent. Love that you can sit outside and look at the mountains. Like that you get pasta salad, garden salad and coleslaw with chips and salad

This was our third visit to the Reefton pub for a meal. Love the atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. Disappointed the serving size of the pork ribs has almost halved. Still tasted great, we did wonder if a different cook was on that night. Would we eat there again? Most definitely!

This was the only accommodation suitably located for our first night on our Maroondah Catchment cycle tour. In fact we had to change our original dates as Reefton Hotel is not open every night. Cabins were basic but beautifully presented and very clean. Bathrooms are NOT ensuite. Great menu choices for dinner - best was the Meat Lasagne.

We dropped in here on our way to the King Valley. Booking in was easy, rooms are small but tidy. Each room has its own bathroom facility, all clean and well maintained.. The service was friendly and the meal are great.. Seafood baskets and Meatlovers Parma were standouts..! Well worth a try and great value..!

Stopped in for a feed. Clean and tidy.
Lovely little pub. Great feed. Staff are prompt and price's where reasonable for what you got. I had a Reefton Burger and chips. Cost $22 but was huge and was delicious. I would recommend this stop for all Comer's.

Group of 16 cyclists called in for lunch. The hotel kitchen and staff were ready for us with quick friendly service, great food and a few cold ales. The beer garden was perfect given the weather and the service excellent.

Smelly old dog in the bar the lady was rude and the food was terrible. This place used to be good but has gone down hill all the locals hate the food and flat beer. The woman owner is a trouble maker and gossip then is rude to customers.

We're locals at Reefton, and have to say for a small country pub that usually seats around 60 people, to have about 180 people turn up looking for food on both days that the last reviewer left their message, was a pretty astounding sight, even for those of us who live here. Yes, they were short staffed (around Easter it's almost impossible to call in extra help at the last minute when 100 people you weren't expecting turn up!)
The publicans have just taken over, but are experienced people, and the food and service is as warm and friendly as we've always experienced.
Maybe city folk are used to having their Mcmeals served up within the minute, but up here we're used to a bit of a wait, especially when it's Easter holidays. I wonder how those city folk would fare if 3 times the people they were expecting for dinner turned up, DEMANDING service?
As for the prices, we've been to Melbourne, and meals at the Reefton are a pretty good price by comparison, and we've never had a bad meal.
Don't listen to the last reviewer - sounds like a sour puss who's only given you half the story (we saw how many people were at the Reefton that weekend!!!)
Give the Reefton a go if you're up this way, it's a little beauty.
