Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed at this beautiful place as part of a wedding party. Aside from the property itself being gorgeous and appropriately outfitted for a place of this age (expect some things a little rustic, thats the charm!) the hosts make the stay amazing. Nothing is too much trouble and no question too intimidating (not even what boards did you use on your decking!) Amazing trees in a beautiful lawn facing onto the yarra river. Will be back.

Excellent private location which backs on to the river. Great place for exploring the Yarra Valley. Close to the hamlet of Warburton with its cycle/walking path on the old railway. Christine who manages the hotel is a mine of useful information telling us about quality family wineries which we would otherwise have passed by. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day of wine tasting! 👍

We have just had our second trip to Oscar’s on the Yarra and loves every minute of it! To arrive to the peaceful, beautiful grounds again and be greeted warmly by Christine was just lovely. I felt myself relax walking through the doors! The rooms are beautiful. The bed and bedding fabulous. To sit out on the balcony and have an excellent coffee watching and listening to the river and looking at the magnificent trees was so relaxing. Breakfast in the dining room was delicious, service excellent. The toiletries from Warbotannicals were a treat and we went to their shop in Warburton to purchase some. Dinner and the Alpine hotel was very good and do visit Cabin and Co homewares on Warburton. Looking forward to our next stay with Christine at Oscars in the near future !

Christine and family were wonderful hosts during our stay. They were very hospitable and engaging with us throughout our stay. Our room was inviting when we arrived and the bed was super comfortable. Having breakfast included was a special treat and the barista made coffee just topped it off! We would certainly recommend Oscar's and look forward to future visits. Kaye and Tony

My partner and I had the most relaxing weekend stay at Oscar's. Christine went over and above to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. We were warm, the beds were comfortable and the brekkie was delicious. The view from our room was incredible - an absolute highlight for both of us. We will 100% be returning!

POSITIVES: 1. Nice location - out of town, on the bank of Yarra River. 2. Friendly and helpful host. 3.Free WiFi. 4. Breakfast included in the room price, made to order by the host. 5. Reverse cycle A/C. 6. Small fridge, kettle, tea and coffee in the room. 7. Small flat screen TV. 8. Toiletries were provided. 9. Everything was well maintained and clean. NEGATIVES: 1. Standard Double room was a little small for two people with luggage. 2. No electric blanket on the bed. 3. It was difficult to get any warmth into the bathroom. 4. Central heating was switched on the second night, but it was just luke warm.

As mentioned in other reviews, this place gets 5 stars for its service. Staff and especially Christine make this hotel warm and welcoming. She knows the area, understands guests and does everything she can to make guests feel welcomed and special. Pros: beautiful settings on the banks of Yarra. Relax and enjoy the view; Breakfast is made to order - good quality; location is a 15 min walk to Warburton; plenty of activities around for a slow weekend or a busy adventure; great shower; comfortable bed Cons: Thin walls - probably not for light sleepers. Very small rooms, but functional.

Oscar’s on the Yarra is a unique place. When we arrived we were surprised to find how far it was from town, and we wondered whether we’d made the right choice. After our stay, we’re certain it was the right choice. The setting is beautiful. It’s next to the Yarra River, with well-tended gardens and beautiful old trees. If you like, you can eat/drink on the terrace in the shade of a magnificent oak tree, or you can find privacy in the large gardens. You can dip your feet in the river, or just sit on a bench watching it go by. The rooms are comfortable with full-size king beds and an outside terrace for sitting and relaxing. Our bathroom was a nice size. The people who run Oscar’s are very pleasant and have a wealth of knowledge about the local area. We wanted to explore the O’Shannassy Aqueduct, and Christine’s clear instructions gave us a couple of options, plus up-do-date knowledge of recent obstacles on the trail. Christine offered to give us a lift to the start of the walk, but we decided we needed the exercise and made our own way there. My only gripe is that breakfast doesn’t start till 8 am. The breakfast made to order was good, the coffee is good, but I would rather start earlier, perhaps with just cold cuts, toast and similar breakfast standards. I noticed I wasn’t the only one, I found another guest waiting at the dining room door shortly after 7 am. I survived by having some cheese and crackers in our room before the official start of breakfast, but the late start also meant a late start to our daily activities.

We had an awesome and excellent stay at this place. Christine, Host and Manager was the most amazing person. Made sure all the guests feels trully right at home. The location was perfect for us sort of away from the town centre but not far too from it. We got all we need, quiet tranquill location, Yarra river was right next to it and all trails for the hike to Mt Donna Buang are accessible from the place. The building is well maintained heritage, a character of its era, rooms are clean, bed is very comfortable and guests area are warm and relaxed. Breakfast was a treat, and ohhh the baristas, fresh made coffee starts our morning right. It was a magnificent get away experience. We trully enjoyed our stay. Thank you to Christine and the team⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from the four of us happy hikers🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♂️🚶🏻‍♀️

We found Oscar's by accident. Interstate visitors, wanting something new after 5 days in Melbourne. March long weekend, everywhere we looked was booked out. Due to a last minute cancellation we arrived at Oscars and immediately were welcomed as though we were returning long lost friends. Christine, her mother Cathy and her husband were wonderful hosts. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The views to the river and the river itself are spectacular. I couldn't believe it was the same Yarra that meanders through Melbourne. We extended our stay twice. Nothing was any trouble. Foods great, local wines very pleasing to the palate. I am writing this review at the end of July 2022 although we stayed in March 2022. That's mine and my works fault, but importantly Oscars is still in my mind and I have finally found the time to express my thoughts and thanks to this wonderful family and fantastic location. Will be back.
