We enjoyed one of the best New Year's Eves we have ever experienced. We booked two night's accommodation in the very comfortable and clean motel, enjoying the great views and facilities offered at Trawool Estate.
We attended the wonderful New Year's Eve celebration in the Wild Water Restaurant and were treated to an 8 course degustation meal whilst enjoying the fantastic entertainment of Matt Hetherington and the band. The food was plentiful, beautifully presented and provided tantalizing flavours.
After a comfortable night's sleep we enjoyed an adequate breakfast at Wild Water and then ventured along the Great Victorian Rail Trail. A refreshing swim in the sparkling clean and spacious pool was enjoyed after our hike.
We then spent a couple of hours in the hotel enjoying a drink then finished our stay with an Elevated Asian meal in the Turbine restaurant. The food was plentiful and extremely tasty.
The staff were refreshingly friendly, helpful and efficient.
We will definitely be returning to Trawool Estate and would definitely recommend this destination for a relaxing, fun, luxurious escape.

Whilst the food was enticingly seasonal, I must admit there were limited options. Nevertheless we all enjoyed the dishes we selected, and they were presented beautifully. On a negative note, the potato chips served with the chicken parmigiana were bland and oily tasting, and had no colour at all. They should have been fried for longer. Service was fair (the staff was young-ish and somewhat inexperienced, but still firendly and helpful) and the wine-list was acceptable and reasonably priced.

We stayed at Trawool for 2 nights. Located right on the rail trail the location is excellent if you wish to go for a ride or just an evening stroll after dinner.
We dined at the hotel on both nights and were not disappointed with the food. Both meals were excellent. Turbine was our favourite, the Asian inspired menu was well paced and tasty. The Wild Water dining room was a little cool on the night we were there. The day had been warm but you needed a jumper. I would agree with earlier reviews that suggest the music detracted from the experience both in Wild Water and outdoors where the same theme continued.
The staff were friendly and responsive when I requested a lower pillow.
The room was comfortable. Robes in the room would be a nice touch and I would consider double glazing on the front windows to reduce traffic noise. If you are from the city you might not notice it but we live in a quiet part of the world and it was noticeable to us, but certainly did not stop us getting a good night's sleep.
Trawool is a self contained getaway once you are there you can kick back and relax.

What a stunning place, lovely clean rooms tastefully refurbished, friendly approachable staff, beautiful surroundings, nearly has everything except for the food and beverage department, such a let down and disappointment. Having said that, Jess was just delightful in the bar, the food waiter was friendly and appropriate but that’s where the story ends. The Caesar salad was very bitter and not tasty at all, I couldn’t eat it, the trout was very nice but it was a tiny serve for the money and was cold when brought to the table. My husband had the lamb which he said was tasty but also cold. Sad to say the breakfast would have to be the worst Buffett breakfast I have seen and eaten. We arrived for breakfast at 9am and everything under in the shafting dishes looked either dry, cold or extremely unappetising. I asked the food attendant if I could have some freshly made eggs and she did so without any issue. The cold offering were no better. Not much at all to choose from and very unappealing with only one pastry offering which was cut in half.
The breakfast staff clearly untrained which I totally make allowances for in these current times, but I would expect that a chef of kitchen staff member should come out to peruse the food quality on the Buffett. Paying for a barista made coffee is a bit ordinary and I acknowledge that there was instant coffee on offer.
Sadly, based on food and service I would not be encouraged to return

After spending a few days on the Victorian Rail Trail that goes right past the back door decided to treat our group of six to a luxurious stay - no bike storage. so we were told " maybe take your bike up to the King Suites., on the second floor"

Rm 12, on top of the kitchen. the extraction fans went of at 12:06 a.m and back on a 6 a.m., Then the water hammer from shower next door /kitchen started.

So much for the uninterrupted view - check the pic. We had three rooms $335 per night and we saw what the other room were like. The light from the foyer shone all night under the door, a door seal could have solved this.

Top it off, not a english tea bag in sight, had to grab one from the car.

Not sure how final compliance certificate was gained with door/window on the first floor of the function room. a Huge sfety risk.

The main bar area - you get to look at brick walls, when there is a wonderful view just next door.

The Friday night manager did not help at all. The Event Scientist on the Saturday
at least listened.

They had a function on so, the other paying guest had second hand service. The bottle of red arrived after the meal and it took 40 min for the dessert to arrive. The food I must admit was wonderful.

The wedding guest had a wonder time.

Sorry to hear you didn't have a great stay with us Kevin. Your comments on the staff and service have been passed to the relevant managers. Bike storage is certainly on the list, once we can; we know how valuable this will be with the GVRT so close. The fan and water noise was investigated by our maintenance team following your stay and have been rectified. I'm sorry that your room had the obstructed view with the cover for our stained glass dome - it does need protecting from the elements, but this means the view is cut off. I'm very pleased to hear your enjoyed your meals.

Food was over priced and only tiny meals.
You think with fish you would get fries or potatoes on the side.
We do not like drinking out of plastic glasses when beer is $9.
This place is trying to be fancy but they will turn a lot of people off.
Food was good though just not enough for the price.
To charge 15% surcharge on a Sunday is ridiculous.

Hi mattj, the menu prices (including the Sunday surcharge) are listed clearly on the menu and website so you can make an informed decision about what you would like, prior to ordering. The 15% goes to our wonderful staff and it is disappointing you think that is 'ridiculous' to pay them properly. We use paper and plastic in our herb garden as glass breakages outside are nearly impossible to clean up thoroughly, so we choose to make the space safe for staff and guests alike. Glad you enjoyed the food!

Arrived to discover a notice in the room informing us that we were not allowed to bring our own wine to drink in our room, I understand this policy but at the super inflated prices Trawool is charging, $70 for a bottle of very ordinary Proseco and $45 for a bottle of wine is tantamount to greed. Ate in the Granite bar on our first night, both ordered fish, chips and salad. The fish was not fresh and the salad amounted to some lettuce leaves included yellowing and slimy. We were repeatedly asked by staff if we were eating in the restaurant the second night but decided aftre our first nights experience to go to the Tallorook Pub instead and it was an excellent bar meal.
The shower was over a bath with a tiled step down to the floor, not particularly safe, the water varied between scalding hot and cold. Both external doors to our room were extremely hard to turn the key, we reported this expecting it to be fixed, it was still like that when we left. There was dreadful piped music everywhere, outside our room, at the pool and throughout the building. Given no choice to escape it, even sitting outside our room hoping to enjoy some peace and tranquility.
We were also overcharged 3 times in the bar by staff although very pleasant didn't seem to know what they were doing.
Overall an overpriced tarted up Motel room not a luxury escape. Trying to be too upmarket and not delivering and also judging by their response to other poor reviews not listening to customer feedback.

Sorry to read about your experience above. Your feedback has been passed to the appropriate managers and staff. We do mention in our pre-arrival email and a note in the rooms that you cannot consume outside food and drinks in our grounds and restaurants, due to our liquor licence. Apologies that the wines didn't meet your standard or price points. All prices are listed on our menu's. I'm glad to hear you also visited the wonderful Tallarook Hotel during your stay and I hope you gave them a 5 star review!

This place is incredible. The renovations that have been done have bought this building back to life, with oh so much style! You feel instantly welcomed by the friendly staff, especially Terry and Wes. The menu options are extensive and when the food came out, I was blown away. Substantial servings, beautifully presented and taste: nothing short of delicious! The desserts were the show stopper, the Burnt Bailey's cheesecake was so good. Lastly, I'm a local and love being able to drink local wines at a very reasonable price. I've already booked my 30th birthday lunch here and will be back time and time again!

We were quite excited to finally visit the Restaurant. We book a table of 4 adults and 4 kids 2 hours before and they were able to fit us in. The moment you arrived you thought you felt special. Great customer service , lovely owner who cares and looks after his guest. The menu isn’t to big but you still have plenty to choose from. From local wines to local beers. We’ve ordered a ciabatta starter which was lovely and perfect. My husband and i also ordered the steak , medium it was perfectly cooked and served well. Save to say they were the Best Steaks we’ve had so far in Australia! The side salad was nice and not too much. The kids ate fish & chips and nuggets. We’ve loved the ambience and great design in your toilets ( yes, I’m commenting on toilets) !! We are local and we will be back!!!

I was led to believe that we had booked a large and quite luxurious room with balcony, however when we checked in, this is not what we found. Our booking confirmation email contained no specific details of the type of room we had booked, so I could not go back and check, but for the room type we ended up with, we thought it was very overpriced. It was really difficult to understand how this price could be justified for a 3 star country hotel.
The buffet breakfast was fine, but the music played over their sound system really spoilt the ambience. The restaurant has large floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of the gorgeous view, but this serene vista is all negated by loud, up-beat, 'doof doof' music, which really spoils the effect. The same problem was evident that evening at dinner. Difficult to relax when your heart rate is naturally elevated by fast tempo and a strong, driving bass line.
We got the impression that this is an establishment trying to create an up-market, 'luxury escape' vibe. A clearer website and booking confirmation, quieter restaurant ambience with more appropriate music choices would all be steps in the right direction.

Sorry to hear you had a less than exceptional experience with us. Thank you for pointing out that the room type is not listed on the confirmation email - that has now been rectified. If you had spoken with our reception team, I'm sure they would have done what they could to change your room. All of the details and prices for the rooms are on our website and available to see when you book; our Grand Traawool Suite is the only spacious room with a balcony, and our highest priced room, so if you were after budget accommodation it would not be the choice I'd recommend. We do play upbeat music in our dining spaces - I'm sorry that didn't suit your particular taste.
