Stayed here one night on the way to do the silo art trail. The beds were comfy, and the shower was great. The staff were friendly and the wifi was good. Road noise from trucks on hwy started at 6 am so if you like a sleep in that won't suit you but we needed to be up and on the road early so it served as an alarm clock lol

Very welcoming young couple. We had 2 rooms (due to family with us). After a small mix up with a room, we were moved and our new room was spotless, as was our families room. Bathroom had been renovated. Very quiet for a Friday night. No traffic. Had a meal in their restaurant which was very quick and nice. Enjoyed our overnight stay.

I rarely give a 2 star rating to any establishment and certain aspects of this stay were very good. But there were a lot of negatives hence the low rating.
I rang at 3.30pm asking for a quiet room, and was told they had one at the back but it had a smaller bathroom. I wasn't worried about that and said we'd take it thinking it would have less truck noise (it didn't). I told them we'd be about 1 hour.
Thanks to Google we had some difficulty finding the motel so we rang. The woman said they were near a petrol station but couldn't tell me the name of it. She then passed me onto her husband to help with directions, but he also spoke poor English.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly, paid our $120 and were told to drive around the back to room 18. So we left the gravelled road and at the back came across overgrown grass, weeds, huge puddles and mud. My husband was hesitant about continuing to drive but I said it must be here so we continued around the back to the one and only room, #18.
We parked so that I could get out and step into the concrete pad in front of the room. The rain had eased and I unlocked the room to find the floors wet and the room very cold. I'm not sure whether it had just been mopped or the wetness was from the fact it was that cold in there. I needed to go to the toilet so went in and saw what she meant by a small bathroom. I couldn't sit on the toilet without hitting my knees against the wall! My husband wanted to change rooms but we had already brought our bags in our of the rain so decided to stay. So we stayed in our coats and put the air con on. It was noisy (new system apparently) but it slowly warmed up the large room and dried the floors. Why the owners couldn't put in on when I said we'd be an hour I don't know. The room was clean and had 2 queens and a single so ideal for a family of 5. 1 queen and the single had electric blankets but not the other. The bathroom was the width of the shower, had a very small basin and the toilet which you had to sit on sideways, unless you were very very short. The bed was comfortable and in the morning it didn't seem so bad. We had dinner in the Chinese restaurant and when we arrived the room was so cold I asked whether he had the heating on and he said he did, but he rushed over and put it on. Even thought he had aircon he chose the gas heater which did nothing. We ate in our puffer jackets and were the only customers. The food was very nice though.
We also couldn't get the TV to work so he came and adjusted the cable. After watching the news we thought we'd watch Netflix but needed to log in. No password was provided so we gave up and watch free to air.
If access to the room wasn't so bad I would have given 3 stars but it was like driving through a paddock, and the rain didn't help. Our neighbour the horse came up and said goodbye in the morning.

There were 2 mice running over the light in the ceiling. Something had been spilt in both chairs & were too dirty to sit on. Even though the bathroom seems to have been renovated in recent times there was mould all around the window. The microwave had something spilt on the top (possibly oil) & couldn’t be removed.
The mice were the final straw but at 10pm we couldn’t get alternative accommodation & reception was closed - not that it would have helped as there were no vacancies.
The next morning I asked for a refund of $50 of our $135 paid & after approximately 20 minutes, including speaking by phone to the ‘manager’ it was agreed. They said only if I didn’t post a review. This is totally unacceptable.
We were very disappointed & will never recommend this premises to anyone.
We have photos.

It’s cheap, and in a convenient location for our needs. Have previously stayed there and everything was as expected, but this most recent stay (late December 2023) was awful. The shower doesn’t hold temperature, so you either freeze or burn randomly whilst mid shower. Mattress was so hard it could be used as a construction material, to the point where I seriously considered leaving at 1am because I wasn’t getting any sleep anyway, which I should have done, because I ended up leaving covered in bed bug bites.
We travel through St Arnaud multiple times a year, but won’t be staying here again

My partner and I and 2 toddler aged children booked 2 nights at the St Arnaud Motel from 24th to the 26th of December. Upon arrival we weren't impressed, the room was filthy, stuffy and clearly not cleaned to a professional standard. The bed sheets were dirty, the "clean" towels were covered in stains and bugs were everywhere! The bugs were in our beds,in the shower and crawling all over the carpet, everywhere we looked they were there. The frozen food we'd bought to live off over the 2nights was all defrosted and ruined due to the faulty fridge/freezer. The shower would not keep a constant temperature the hot water stayed cold. The air conditioner smelt terrible and filter looked as though it had never been cleaned.
When we bought all this to the owners attention, Barbara, she stated that she DID NOT CARE because she had recently sold the motel. Barbara made it clear she wasn't phased or cared that we were disgusted by the state of the room and threatened to call the police. She was very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL and instead of taking onboard what we had told her, we even took the dirty linen as proof to show her, she was dismissive of our complaints.
The St Arnaud motel is NOT a family friendly place to stay. The St Arnaud motel is currently ran by a person who has no regards for her customers and NO idea on cleanliness. This motel was filthy and is NOT recommended for anyone and is a huge disappointment for families looking to stay in comfort. All I can say is it is DISGUSTING!!

Horrible staff, horrible service, horrible facilities. I am a frequent traveller and have stayed in over a thousand motels throughout my life and I have never experienced such a horrid and poorly serviced motel. I advise any one looking to stay in the area to choose the alternative motel or travel to nearby Maryborough.

I too was misled by the picture on the website but we were prepared to settle for the rather tired decor and only partially upgraded bathroom. We should perhaps have complained that the bathroom doorhandle was a bit loose but decided to put up with this as we were only staying one night. This was a mistake!
Just before 10pm I had a shower preparatory to going to bed. But when I tried to leave the bathroom the door handle would not turn. My 73- year old husband was equally unable to open the door from the other side. He spent some time attempting to do so before deciding to alert the owners. His phonecall only elicited an answering machine. With some difficulty he located their residence. No bell or knocker was visible with which to rouse them. His increasingly urgent calls and hammering on their door at length raised the owners who with considerable ill-grace brought tools to open the bathroom door. They offered only the most grudging and perfunctory apology for my incarceration. It seemed as though they believed we - rather than their lack of maintenance - were somehow to blame. I hate to think what might have happened had I been a solo traveller....

Response from Motelier_Barbi, Owner at Motel St Arnaud

It's times like these, that I wish there was a website created "customer-advisor"...."Beware all motels and accommodation providers". This couple walked into the motel and had a husband and wife verbal fight in reception upon check-in, husband was very rude and condescending, should have in retrospect declined a room for this couple then and there...Not only did they brake the bathroom door and then tried to blame management (obviously the tiff from earlier was taken out on the door handle), the next morning I had customers complaining of yelling and screaming from this couples room. At this point I thought it could not get any worse....WRONG, I was then greeted by Mr & Mrs Flannagan yelling verbal obscenities at me and then the husband throwing the keys at me. I really do hope you get some treatment for your anger Mr 694traveller, although your bitterness and unhappiness would be punishment enough.

Stayed one night with friends on way back to Melbourne after a houseboat holiday on the Murray River. I had made the bookings for our group and got a lot of flak for making this one.
I chose this motel from it's profile. It claimed to be quiet and friendly and quiet and had a restaurant and a bar. Important considerations as I knew we would be coming off a long driving day which is why I chose this motel and not one of the similarly priced alternatives that did not boast bar and restaurant.
Arrived to find it was really a truck stop on the main road. Very basic and not too clean rooms. Restaurant was not open and nor was the bar. We found the pub nearby which did a great meal and drinks for us and did not charge through the roof. The motel is noisy. On the main highway and a lot closer than you would think to the railway line and it's train noise. Trucks starting up at dawn were only not a problem for us because we had an early start ourselves.
No cooking utensils and a very negative response from operators to our request for some items to use on the barbecue in the park across the road. We cooked breakfast with plastic cutlery given by the nearby service station which does espresso coffee. Leaving was a relief.
Don't know what the operators problem is. Perhaps we got the bad shift or they were having children problems or it was just a very very bad hair day. The place did not live up to it's advertising and the service was poor.

It is unfortunate that you did not have an enjoyable stay with us. In regards to your comments, we did in fact inform you that the restaurant was prebooked that day. The trucks were infact staying at the motel, in which, we remind you, we were fully booked out that evening. As owner operators of a motel for the past 9 years, I must say, that I have never come across a more opprobrious group of people. As to "a bad hair day"... follicle envy is a curse !!!
