I rarely give a 2 star rating to any establishment and certain aspects of this stay were very good. But there were a lot of negatives hence the low rating. I rang at 3.30pm asking for a quiet room, and was told they had one at the back but it had a smaller bathroom. I wasn't worried about that and said we'd take it thinking it would have less truck noise (it didn't). I told them we'd be about 1 hour. Thanks to Google we had some difficulty finding the motel so we rang. The woman said they were near a petrol station but couldn't tell me the name of it. She then passed me onto her husband to help with directions, but he also spoke poor English. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly, paid our $120 and were told to drive around the back to room 18. So we left the gravelled road and at the back came across overgrown grass, weeds, huge puddles and mud. My husband was hesitant about continuing to drive but I said it must be here so we continued around the back to the one and only room, #18. We parked so that I could get out and step into the concrete pad in front of the room. The rain had eased and I unlocked the room to find the floors wet and the room very cold. I'm not sure whether it had just been mopped or the wetness was from the fact it was that cold in there. I needed to go to the toilet so went in and saw what she meant by a small bathroom. I couldn't sit on the toilet without hitting my knees against the wall! My husband wanted to change rooms but we had already brought our bags in our of the rain so decided to stay. So we stayed in our coats and put the air con on. It was noisy (new system apparently) but it slowly warmed up the large room and dried the floors. Why the owners couldn't put in on when I said we'd be an hour I don't know. The room was clean and had 2 queens and a single so ideal for a family of 5. 1 queen and the single had electric blankets but not the other. The bathroom was the width of the shower, had a very small basin and the toilet which you had to sit on sideways, unless you were very very short. The bed was comfortable and in the morning it didn't seem so bad. We had dinner in the Chinese restaurant and when we arrived the room was so cold I asked whether he had the heating on and he said he did, but he rushed over and put it on. Even thought he had aircon he chose the gas heater which did nothing. We ate in our puffer jackets and were the only customers. The food was very nice though. We also couldn't get the TV to work so he came and adjusted the cable. After watching the news we thought we'd watch Netflix but needed to log in. No password was provided so we gave up and watch free to air. If access to the room wasn't so bad I would have given 3 stars but it was like driving through a paddock, and the rain didn't help. Our neighbour the horse came up and said goodbye in the morning.

Stayed here one night on the way to do the silo art trail. The beds were comfy, and the shower was great. The staff were friendly and the wifi was good. Road noise from trucks on hwy started at 6 am so if you like a sleep in that won't suit you but we needed to be up and on the road early so it served as an alarm clock lol

A friend and myself stayed one night while we did the Silo art trail. The motel rooms are fine - we were the only guests staying so it was nice and quiet. The bathroom has been updated and the room is perfectly acceptable for a 1 or 2 night stay. A major improvement that prevents me leaving a fully satisfied review is the poor airconditioning. As soon as I saw the brand of aircon (Akai) I knew we were in trouble - cheap boxes that barely blow out a breeze. As it had been in the mid 30's that day, the night was unbearably stuffy in the room without so much as a breeze outside. My bed was directly under the aircon and I couldn't feel it at all - and this was on maximum fan speed at 18 degrees setting. Please, upgrade the aircon as this can really ruin a good nights sleep, especially when St Arnaud is the type of town you just stop in for a rest and get going again. I wondered about asking to change rooms, but with reception closed early (which is fine) and knowing that the Akai brand is garbage, there was really no point anyway. The only other suggestion for feedback is to update the room information - we used the in room menu to go over to the restaurant and order, but were abruptly told 'we don't have that' with a puzzled look as if we had just ordered something outrageous. He finally worked out 'oh thats a really old menu in the room' and we ordered from the new menu. Just replace the info in the room books and problem solved, it will take 5 minutes. Apart from that, I can recommend Motel St Arnaud on the two conditions that its either not hot when you are staying, or the poor aircon is not a concern for you.

Very welcoming young couple. We had 2 rooms (due to family with us). After a small mix up with a room, we were moved and our new room was spotless, as was our families room. Bathroom had been renovated. Very quiet for a Friday night. No traffic. Had a meal in their restaurant which was very quick and nice. Enjoyed our overnight stay.

Service was really good. Allowed me to do an early check in. Rooms rather comfortable as well, and they also have a restaurant. However. wifi was pretty bad, and wasn't at all close to the town centre, meaning quite a bit of a hike to get there.
